New Evidence in Deadly American Airlines Crash Could Change the Narrative

The National Transportation Safety Board is continuing to investigate a fatal midair crash at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport that took place in January. Questioning and public hearings revealed malfunctions in air traffic control and instruments that may change understanding of how the tragic accident occurred.

The Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into an American Airlines passenger jet over the Potomac River had technical issues, showing pilots were flying 80 to 100 feet below their actual position in the crowded airspace above the river occupied by local police, military, and commercial jets, communication is key.

Helicopters were expected to stay in a range of between 100 and 200 feet above the Potomac. The Black Hawk was flying at 278 feet at the time of the crash, and sometimes climbed upward of 300 feet.

“It’s still remarkably hard to identify aircraft when you are flying,” said Rich Dressler of Metro Aviation in a testimony. “We use traffic alerts and traffic monitoring systems in our helicopters, all the DC operators, the civilian and law enforcement side.”

Furthermore, at the time of the crash, only one air traffic controller was handling the helicopter and plane traffic. Doing a job typically meant for two people, the controller was on duty for over an hour and twenty minutes before the crash.

“As far as a controller perspective and my own personal perspective, making it work is utilizing all available tools to you to compensate for the compacted volume,” said Clark Allen, an air traffic control specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration.“It can be taxing on a person, you know, constantly (having) to give, give, give or push, push, push in order to efficiently move traffic.”

The combination of technical and personnel issues caused the helicopter to fly straight into the American Airlines jet, killing 67 people.

This light puffer jacket offers exceptional temperature regulation and durability. On the outside, the 100% recycled polyester ripstop fabric is coated with a DWR finish, so moisture and light precipitation will bead up and roll off instead of soaking the jacket. It’s stuffed with 60-gram PrimaLoft Gold synthetic insulation that’s water-repellent and made with 100% recycled content. Elastic cuffs and a dual-drawcord hem help you cinch down the jacket for a snug fit that blocks cold breezes, and two zippered hand warmer pockets and an interior zippered pocket keep your essentials secure. The interior pocket also doubles as a stuff sack, so you can pack down this jacket and throw it in a backpack or suitcase when traveling.

Reviewers have been thrilled with the Nano Puff’s stellar performance and go-anywhere versatility. “Phenomenal—the perfect everyday jacket,” a shopper said. “I have lived in the Pacific Northwest and Texas, and this jacket is my go-to for basically every occasion. It keeps me warm enough in the fall and spring days, and it’s easy to layer during winter. It fits perfectly under a shell.”

Aldi Is Selling This Iconic Cereal’s New Flavor, and Shoppers are Clearing the Shelves

Supermarket shelves are stocked with new flavors of favorite, iconic food products. The cereal aisle is especially adorned with boxes of original and unique varieties of America’s breakfast staple. The latest drop is a mash-up of classic Frosted Flakes and an ice cream treat – and it’s now being sold at Aldi in the ‘Finds’ aisle.

That’s right, Kellogg’s has crafted and launched Frosted Flakes Cookies & Creme Milkshake Cereal. According to the manufacturer, “these toasty, crunchy corn flakes are bursting with sweet cookie and creme flavor. Each bowl creates slurp-worthy flavored milk so adults and kids can experience a tasty and satisfying bowl every time”. And fans are excited to try it. “I feel like that’s everything I have ever needed in life” said one Frosted Flakes fan.

Frosted Flakes also recently launched strawberry and chocolate milkshake flavors, and shoppers seem to be eager to try this one as well. “I’m a big fan of both the strawberry milkshake and chocolate milkshake ones, so I don’t doubt these will be [delicious]” stated one Reddit user.

Those who have tried the new cereal flavor have mixed reviews. “The texture and feel is the same as [the] original, which is good! The taste is a yummy cookies and crème flavor. We really liked it!” exclaimed one reviewer. “My family really liked it! Yummy flavor, very crunchy” said another. “Just like the original Frosted Flakes, these are so good!” stated another. A few Reddit users feel it lacked in cookies and cream flavor and tasted more like vanilla, and others feel the cereal itself looks odd with the speckled dark cookie flakes.

As with any new flavor variety launch, it may only be on shelves for a limited-time. So if you want to give it a try, I’d head to your nearest Aldi to grab a box.
