For the last 20 years, Deadliest Catch star Sig Hansen has faced rogue waves, brutal storms, and the kind of icy waters that swallowed the Titanic whole. Now, after another harrowing season on the Bering Sea filming the Discovery Channel series, Hansen says he’s not the same guy. As someone who was once married to the sea, the captain is finally thinking about stepping away from the helm.

“I think I’ve got a few more years left in me,” Hansen recently told People. He noted his thoughts of retirement are becoming harder to ignore. “Part of it is just, you think about your own mortality—and I’m fearful.”

The latest season of Deadliest Catch opens with a frightening moment: a fellow captain’s vessel springs a leak, forcing his crew to abandon ship in the middle of nowhere. 

“When we heard they were in the water… that changes everything,” Hansen told the outlet. “You do what you can to save them.”

The veteran fisherman’s recent brush with potential tragedy sparked his mindset shift. At least eight people from Deadliest Catch have died over the years, so the fear is totally warranted. “I don’t have the same mentality I did before,” he admitted. “I’ve been there, done that. Now I want to spend more time with my family, my wife.”

The 59-year-old captain known for his dry sense of humor, grit, and no-nonsense leadership style has had a change of heart. He has four grandkids he wants to be around and watch grow up.

“I used to laugh at old-timers talking about their grandkids,” he quipped. “Now I’m one of those guys.”

Hansen also joked about fishermen being “professional liar[s],” so his retirement isn’t a sure thing just yet. But for a guy who’s job is to stare death in the face regularly, there’s a new level of self-awareness beneath the brawn.

“I think about it all the time,” he says. “The water doesn’t care who you are.” Hansen’s official retirement plans remain to be seen.

Chambray fabric and tape line the interior of the pockets and seams, respectively, and the back is single-vented for ease of movement on the dance floor.

A popular children’s toy is under a major recall following the death of a 23-month-old child stemming from an incident in 2023. 

On July 31, Backyard Kids issued a recall of about 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Backyard Kids, LLC, of Plano, Texas, is recalling about 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens, originally manufactured by KidKraft, Inc. Although Backyard Kids has only sold 400 of the units in the United States and 12 in Canada, the company voluntarily agreed to recall and provide free replacement hooks for all units.

Why Did The Kitchen Toy Get Recalled?

According to the CPSC report, a 23-month-old child was asphyxiated after his shirt got caught on one of the hooks while climbing and crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchen where the toy kitchen accessories are held. The child was unable to rescue himself and died from strangulation and asphyxia in February 2023 in Oregon.

Following the death, the CPSC determined the kitchen poses a strangulation and asphyxia hazard and a risk of serious injury or death to young children who are climbing on the counter or crawling through the opening at the back of the play kitchens. Children’s clothing can get caught on the hooks used to hold toy kitchen accessories, such as play pots and pans. 

Which Units Are Being Recalled?

The play kitchens named in the recall were sold online at KidKraft.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com from 2018 through July 2025 for between $120 and $270. The can by identified by the model number 53411 and the sticker with the model number can be found on the back of the play kitchen.

The company called for consumers to “immediately stop using the play kitchens, remove the original hooks, and contact Backyard Kids for free replacement hooks.”

The Flintstones will celebrate 65 years on television with an epic marathon this month.

Ahead of the 65^th anniversary of the animated sitcom’s September 30, 1960, debut, MeTV Toons will pay tribute with an all-day marathon, The Flintstones: 65 Years & Still Rock’n, on August 31, Remind magazine announced.

The marathon kicks off at 6 a.m. with the pilot episode “The Flintstone Flyer” and will include classic episodes such as the Addams Family-inspired “The Gruesomes,” as well as celebrity-themed episodes “Ann-Margrock Presents” and “Samantha,” which featured voice cameos by Ann-Margret and Bewitched star Elizabeth Montgomery, respectively.

The marathon will also include the feature films A Man Called Flintstone and The Flintstones Meet the Jetsons.

The Flintstones Almost Didn’t Happen

The Flintstones originally aired on ABC from 1960 to 1966 and featured voice actors Alan Reed (Fred Flintstone), Jean Vander Pyl (Wilma Flintstone), Mel Blanc (Barney Rubble), and Gerry Johnson (Betty Rubble). The Emmy-nominated cartoon series about a prehistoric family has been in syndication and on cable and streaming platforms ever since.

In a past interview with The Television Academy, series creator Joseph Barbera said networks thought he was crazy when he pitched the idea of a weekly animated series for adults. “No one had even dared think about a Flintstones show,” he said. “By that I mean a prime-time animated show. Who could do that? I mean how could you turn that out, a half hour a week, are you kidding?”

“I did [an] eight straight week pitch, until the very last day when ABC [picked it up],” he added. “We finish the show, and we open at eight o’clock on a Friday night. Next day, Variety comes out with ‘Pen and ink disaster.’ That’s what they called The Flintstones. Six years later, the disaster was still going.”

The summer is in full swing which means millions of travelers will be taking to the skies for their respective family vacations. Before their travels begin, the Transportation Security Administration’s recent phone charger warning received an upgrade.

TSA Warns Against Using Public USB Ports

The TSA’s recent phone charger warning for airline passengers was subject to even more urgency amid the busy summer travel schedule as travelers look to keep their phones and electronics juiced up.

The security agency warned airport travelers to “bring your TSA-compliant power brick or battery pack and plug in there,” rather than use public charging points. “When you’re at an airport, do not plug your phone directly into a USB port.”

What is Juice Jacking and Choice Jacking?

The new looming threat relates to juice jacking, a technique where hackers can install spyware and gain access to a phone when it’s plugged into a public charging point to “juice” up the phone’s battery.

“Public USB ports should never be treated as safe,” warns NordVPN‘s Adrianus Warmenhoven (via ZDNet) after a new report emerged into a new threat of choice jacking, which gets its name from the former biggest threat of juice jacking. The new technique is able to bypass the protections in a smartphone to trick it into accepting a data cable connection.

Warmenhoven, via Forbes, describes choice jacking as “a dangerous evolution in public charging threats. With a single deceptive prompt, attackers can trick people into enabling data transfer, potentially exposing personal files and other sensitive data.”

As cybersecurity experts warn against using public USB ports for charging, Android Authority explained the different risk for Android and iPhone users.

Attacks on Android phones “exploit permissions for peripherals,” the website explains, using Android’s Open Accessory Protocol for accessories such as “mice or keyboards. Attackers can then begin hijacking system input through ADB (or Android Debug Bridge), which can simulate user input and change the USB mode to allow data transfer. The attack then proceeds with a series of commands aimed at gaining complete control of the device and gaining key access for further control.”

Apple’s iOS differs slightly and gives its user a bit more protection than its Android counterpart.

“A rigged USB cable or charger can be used to trigger a connection event for a Bluetooth device,” the article states. “Although it may appear as a regular Bluetooth-based audio accessory to your iPhone, it could act as the machinery to secretly allow data transfer and gain access to specific files and photos. However, it cannot access the entire iOS system as it can on Android.”
