Major League Wrestling has landed a former TNA World Champion and Women’s Wrestling Hall of Famer.

On Monday, MLW announced that it has signed Tessa Blanchard, who will debut at the FIGHTLAND event in Charleston, South Carolina, on Sept. 12. The 31-year-old issued the following statement on her MLW arrival:

“Heavy is the crown, but legacy isn’t handed to you…it’s forged under pressure. I’ve earned my place as one of the best in the world at what I do, but I’m not coming to MLW to rest on the Blanchard name. MLW is bringing some of the purest, hardest-hitting action in the sport today, and the Undeniable Diamond belongs right at the top of it.”

Blanchard had a brief one-year stint in WWE (2016 to 2017) before landing with Impact Wrestling (now TNA) in 2018. At the 2020 Hard to Kill pay-per-view, she defeated Sami Callihan to become the Impact World Champion (now the TNA World Championship).

To date, Blanchard is the only woman in TNA/Impact Wrestling history to hold the promotion’s world championship belt. She also held the Impact Knockouts Championship for 147 days.

MLW Makes Another Big Move

Blanchard is the latest household name to join MLW.

Following his WWE departure, former NXT Champion Killer Kross returned to MLW last year. Things couldn’t be going much better for Kross, who’s held the MLW World Heavyweight Championship since Jan. 29.

Austin Aries, the current National Openweight Champion, also returned to MLW last year as a commentator, but he soon made his way back into the ring.

Thanks to the huge success of I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, that show’s star has become one of Netflix’s most popular comedy stars. That is why many of his fans will likely be disappointed to learn that another one of his shows, Detroiters, will be leaving the streaming service’s library soon.

On September 1, 2026, What’s on Netflix published an article detailing everything that is known to be leaving Netflix in America in October. The list included several beloved series, including seasons of Shameless, NCIS, Dawson’s Creek, and Nurse Jackie. The article also noted that both seasons of Detroiters will depart Netflix in the U.S. on October 16.

Detroiters originally aired on Comedy Central from February 7, 2017, until August 16, 2018, and consisted of 20 episodes, which were broken up into two seasons. The show focuses on two lifelong best friends, Tim Robinson’s Tim Cramblin and Sam Richardson’s Sam Duvet, who run a small advertising agency together in Detroit. To say that the duo’s approach to the content they make for their clients is unorthodox and hilarious would be a massive understatement.

Even though Detroiters was never destined to crack Netflix’s TV Top 10, the series’ popularity with critics and its dedicated fan following is undeniable. After all, clips from the series regularly spread on social media.

The most obvious indication of Detroiters’ popularity is that it has near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores. Currently, it holds a 95% Tomatometer score based on critics’ reviews and an 89% Popcornmeter score based on user ratings. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the show’s second season holds a perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Holding such high scores from critics and viewers alike is a relatively rare occurrence.

In the past, fans have pushed for Netflix to produce a third season of Detroiters, including one viewer starting a Change.org petition. The fan desire became so notable that Screen Rant asked Richardson about the possibility in 2025, and he didn’t rule it out. Now, those hopes have almost certainly been dashed as the series is pegged to exit Netflix entirely in a month and a half.

NBC knows its way around a good sitcom. The century-old network is renowned for its impressive slate of memorable comedies, from Cheers and Seinfeld to 30 Rock and The Office. However, one particular NBC series has been crowned “the most perfect sitcom of the last 25 years,” which is quite the designation.

Recently, Collider published “The 8 Most Perfect Sitcoms of the Last 25 Years, Ranked,” and sitting pretty at No. 1 is The Good Place. The fantasy-comedy series ran for four seasons, premiering on Sept. 19, 2016, and riding off into the sunset on Jan. 30, 2020.

For the uninitiated, the show follows Eleanor Shellstrop, a not-so-good person who finds herself in a heaven-like afterlife. However, she quickly learns she’s not supposed to be there and fights tooth and nail to stay put.

The Good Place stars Kristen Bell as the aforementioned Eleanor, William Jackson Harper as Chidi Anagonye, Jameela Jamil as Tahani Al-Jamil, D’Arcy Carden as Janet, Manny Jacinto as Jason Mendoza, and Ted Danson as Michael. The series hailed from comedy king Michael Schur, who also served as the showrunner.

The beloved comedy received universal acclaim upon its release, highlighting its tight writing, hilarious performances, and heartfelt, thought-provoking exploration of philosophical concepts. The Guardian observed that The Good Place “made philosophy seem cool,” while The New York Times lauded it for its “optimism about human nature” in an age of pervasive pessimism. It boasts an average of 97% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and 90% on the Popcornmeter.

‘Intentional Storytelling’

Collider praised the series for its “phenomenal and intentional storytelling that all builds up to one of the most beautiful series finales of all time.” As an avid fan of the show, I wholeheartedly concur. The Good Place series finale had me reaching for the tissues. It’s also one of the few shows that maintains high quality from beginning to end, consistently building on its unique narrative to create wildly entertaining (and endearing) TV.

Who was Erin Piacenti? She was a vice president at Bank of America in New York who was stabbed to death in a Times Square attack.

The attack ended with New York Police shooting the knife-wielding suspect, Pamela Cisneros, to death, a graphic scene captured on viral video. “During the encounter, she told the officers, ‘I’m not dropping anything. I would rather kill both of you.’ She repeated, ‘I will kill you,’” New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said of Cisneros’ final moments.

The New York Post named Piacenti, as the 32-year-old victim who died in the rampage. An elderly man who was not named was also injured before police shot and killed. Police believe both attacks are random; they occurred in broad daylight, according to Reuters.

NBC New York also named the stabbing victim as Piacenti, who died at the hospital after she was stabbed in the unprovoked attack.

Piacenti “was employed by Bank of America in New York City, working as the Vice President of Business Selection and Conflicts,” according to The Post.

She lived in Chester, NJ, and recently celebrated her wedding anniversary, The Post reported. Piacenti was attacked “in the tourist-heavy area near 41st Street and Seventh Avenue,” NBC New York reported.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague.  She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed,” Bank of America said in a statement to NBC New York.

“Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones,” it continued. Cisneros had a history of mental health issues but no criminal history, according to NBC New York.

Cisneros was seen on video wielding the two knifes before police shot her.

Her second victim is in the hospital in critical but stable condition, according to ABC 7. After the random stabbings of Piacenti and the elderly man, Cisneros ran to the police substation at Times Square, where she confronted the police and was shot by them, the television station reported.

According to ABC 7, Cisneros, who has also died, first pulled the knives from a bag. New York police released a photo showing the two weapons.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re stronger on one side of your body than the other, well, there’s probably some truth to that. Your dominant hand or foot handles the bulk of many of your daily tasks, and your brain naturally favors the stronger limb because it’s more efficient. CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is currently on indefinite leave from his role at the network following his arrest in late July.

Romo was stopped by police after leaving a golf course in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop and noticed that Romo appeared to exhibit signs of intoxication. Romo failed a field sobriety test, and the deputy also noted that there was an open bottle of alcohol in the passenger’s side of his vehicle.

Romo was officially charged with operating while intoxicated, and has pleaded no contest to begin the month of September. The former NFL quarterback also released a statement on Tuesday to accompany that plea, his first since news of the arrest went viral over the last several weeks.

Tony Romo’s First Official Statement Since Arrest

“This morning, I faced a recent personal failure by pleading no contest to a civil offense for OWI in Wisconsin. I own this completely,” Romo said in a statement on his Instagram account.

“Multiple back surgeries ended my career earlier than I expected and left me with constant, debilitating pain. That pain led to a dependence on pain medication, and my efforts to get off those medications led to an over-reliance on alcohol.”

Romo added that taking responsibility and accountability for his actions is an “important first step.”

“The harder and more important step is examining the path that brought you here and making the changes necessary to move forward,” Romo said. “That path requires honesty.”

Romo says that he is “working closely with a team of doctors” to get a better handle on his health, adding that he is grateful for the support of family, friends and the greater NFL community.

“As I turn my attention to my health, my family, and, in time, my return to CBS, I kindly ask for privacy during this period,” Romo said to end the statement.

Romo’s Replacement Plan at CBS Sports

The former Cowboys quarterback will not be on the call for several high-profile NFL games to begin the season.

Former Houston Texans star and fellow CBS analyst J.J. Watt will fill in for Romo during his indefinite leave, assuming the top analyst position alongside play-by-play man Jim Nantz. He’ll start the new job in Week 1 for the game between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.

Last month, CBS Sports president David Berson said that the Romo situation is “evolving” and that the network is still assessing information.

Berson acknowledged the difficulty of changing announcer pairings and broadcast schedules ahead of the new season, but said that others were ready to step up to different roles.

“We have to consider the impact on our image and our brand,” Berson noted.

“That’s very important to us. The focus should be and needs to be on our presentation and this great product and not on any others. Fortunately, we have a deep bench and everybody is stepping up.”

As the NFL season begins, we’ll see if Romo returns to call games for CBS during the 2026 regular season – as he is still currently under the rest of the 10-year, $100 million contract he signed to call games in 2020.

Twenty years ago today, on September 1, 2006, Lionsgate dropped a Labor Day weekend action movie into 2,515 theaters on a $12 million budget. Crank packs 88 minutes of action and never once lets the audience sit down.

Jason Statham plays Chev Chelios, a Los Angeles hitman poisoned with a synthetic drug that kills him the moment his heart rate drops. To stay alive, he has to keep his adrenaline pinned. That is the entire engine of the movie.

It worked. Crank grossed $42.9 million worldwide against that $12 million budget, per Box Office Mojo, and got a sequel three years later.

The Shoot Was as Reckless as the Movie

First-time directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor skipped 35mm entirely, shooting on Canon XL2 camcorders and a Sony CineAlta HDC-F950, with each man running his own camera. The signature shots came from Neveldine, who strapped into rollerblades and skated through the action with the camera in his hands. It was nowhere near as nimble as it looked. Promoting the 2009 sequel, Neveldine told Collider that on the original Crank they were hauling “62-pound backpacks with hard decks tethered to our cameras.” That’s how the film caught Statham piloting a motorcycle through downtown Los Angeles in a hospital gown, and why the footage lurches, whips, and reframes mid-punch.

Statham did his own fighting and driving, including a fight staged roughly 3,000 feet over Los Angeles aboard a helicopter, and he has been blunt about why he insists on it. “There’s so much faking that goes on, I just feel like the audience gets cheated a little bit,” he told MovieWeb during the film’s press run. He draws exactly one line. “I’m very confident when I’m relying on my own physical capabilities for stunt work,” he said, “but when you’re putting your life in a machine’s hands, that’s where I get a little bit uncomfortable.”

Twenty Years On, It Still Rips

The math still looks absurd. Crank opened to $10.5 million over the three-day weekend, finishing second behind Invincible, and closed its domestic run at $27.8 million. For scale, Variety reported that MPAA member studios spent an average of $65.8 million per film that year, and The Hollywood Reporter put the average marketing spend on a single movie at another $34.5 million.

Reviews split in 2006 and never came back together: a 62% Tomatometer from critics against a 71% Popcornmeter from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus still concedes that the film’s “assaultive style and gleeful depravity may turn off casual action fans.”

The lists have been kinder. Collider ranks Crank ninth on its Best R-Rated Action Movies of the 2000s, ahead of Man on Fire and behind Inside Man, calling it “one of its decade’s most absurd and bombastic action films.” Statham was 39 that September, four years out from the first Transporter and still best known stateside as a Guy Ritchie ensemble player. Crank stripped away the scaffolding and left only what American audiences actually wanted from him.
