1967 Classic, Paul Newman’s Highest-Rated Western, Named One of the Greatest Westerns of All Time

Over the course of his illustrious acting career, Paul Newman starred in eight Westerns and while Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is his most well-known entry, it’s not his highest-rated film of the genre.

That honor belongs to Hombre, which was the sixth and final time he was directed by Martin Ritt after the duo paired together on The Long, Hot Summer; Paris Blues; Hemingway’s Adventures of a Young Man; Hud; and The Outrage.

“John Russell finds that the world is not so welcoming when he returns to his Arizona hometown to collect his inheritance. A white man raised by American Indians, Russell is subjected to numerous instances of racism when people discover his background,” reads the synopsis of the film.

“When the stagecoach Russell is riding in is held up by a gang run by one of the scheming passengers, Cicero Grimes, it falls to Russell to defend the passengers — the very people who have dismissed and insulted him.”

While it’s beloved by fans, Newman admitted he couldn’t watch Hombre or any other movie he made before 1985.

“I cannot bear to look at a film that I made before 1990,” he explained. “Maybe 1985. There’s no sense even trying to explain it. I really just can’t watch myself. I see all the machinery at work, and it just drives me nuts, so I don’t look at anything.”

‘Hombre’ Named Among the Greatest Westerns of All Time

Hombre sits near the top of several lists naming the greatest Westerns of all time, including the IMDb list, which placed it at No. 43.

Studio Binder ranked Hombre at No. 28, lauding Newman’s performance. “The writing and acting of the film were commended, with Newman’s performance being noted for giving John rich characterization despite a limited amount of dialogue,” it said.

ScreenRant ranked Hombre as his second-best Western behind Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Meanwhile, Hombre‘s 94% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics remains the best score he’s ever received on a Western film.

Detroit Lions Sign Second-Team All-Pro Linebacker

The Detroit Lions are bringing in veteran linebacker Devin White. The move adds much-needed depth to the defense and a veteran presence. The signing should help Detroit improve after a disappointing season in which the Lions went from the 7th-ranked defense in 2024 to the 22nd in 2025. 

White was selected 5th overall in the 2019 draft out of LSU after an incredible college career. During his time at LSU, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, made the First-team All-SEC twice, was a Second-team All-American in 2017, a Consensus All-American in 2018, and won the Butkus award given out to the nation’s top linebacker in 2018. 

His dominance carried over to the pros as he was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team in 2019. He is a one-time Pro Bowler, getting the nod in 2021, was named a Second-Team All-Pro in 2020, and was a part of the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl LV title team. 

After spending the first 5 seasons of his career in Tampa Bay, White signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year $7.5 million deal, but never appeared in a game before he was released in October of 2024. He signed with the Houston Texans but only appeared in seven games, recording 19 tackles. He had a bounce-back year last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, recording 174 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. 

Now, White will try to continue to revitalize his career with a Lions team that has Super Bowl aspirations. Detroit was 15-2 in 2024 and looked like one of the best teams in the league, but lost in the Divisional round to the Washington Commanders. The 2025 season was not as kind to the Dan Campbell-led squad, as they went 9-8 and missed the playoffs, in part due to their regression on defense.

Carlos Correa Won’t Rule Out Return For Astros In 2026: ‘We’ll See’

Carlos Correa’s recovery from surgery to repair a torn ankle tendon is progressing quicker than expected and on Saturday the Houston Astros’ star infielder didn’t rule out a return this season. Correa was expected to miss the entire season after undergoing on his left ankle on May 11. But he is already doing everything except hitting, sparking hope that he could be back on the field sooner than expected. “We’ll see,” he said when asked if he could play again this year. “I wouldn’t be doing all this work if I didn’t think there was a chance.” After Correa was injured while taking swings in the batting cage, a timeline of six to eight months was given for his recovery. Manager Joe Espada said Saturday that Correa is ahead of schedule but knows that he still has a long way to go before he can return to the lineup. “I’m just happy that he’s out here moving around and he actually looks really good,” Espada said. The 31-year-old Correa said he’s running at 80-90% and that he has a doctor’s appointment scheduled for Tuesday where he hopes to be cleared for hitting. “I’m in a really good spot, a really good spot,” he said. “I don’t feel it. I’ve been progressing to running and sprinting and everything feels great.” Houston has won nine of 10 games to vault into first place in the AL West and that has given Correa some extra juice as he eyes a return. “The way we’ve been playing lately definitely motivates me even more to go out there, put in the work to try to make it back,” he said. Correa isn’t surprised that he’s doing so well because of the plan he put together as soon as he was injured. “I got on this protocol and I started looking for all the information I could into how to speed up the process and the things that I needed to eat and how I needed to sleep, the type of treatment I needed” he said. “And we’ve been doing a great job with that, so we’re in a good spot.” Correa, who is back with the Astros after last summer’s blockbuster trade from the Twins, played third base for Houston last season with Jeremy Pena at shortstop. Before his injury this season he returned to shortstop while Peña was out with a hamstring injury. Correa has salaries of $31.5 million this season, $30.5 million in 2027 and $30 million in 2028. As part of the trade, the Twins will pay the Astros $10 million each Dec. 15 from this year through 2028. Correa was hitting .279 with three home runs and 16 RBIs this season. The No. 1 pick in the 2012 amateur draft, Correa spent his first seven seasons with the Astros before signing with the Twins where he spent 3 1/2 seasons before last summer’s trade. Vincent Pastore, ‘Sopranos’ Star, Dies at 80: Remembering His Life and Family

Tragic news struck the entertainment world on Saturday evening when reports revealed that actor Vincent Pastore had died at the age of 80.

Pastore was best known for his role on the iconic TV series The Sopranos, where he became one of the show’s most recognizable characters.

One of Pastore’s longtime friends, Stephen Villano, found him dead at his Bronx residence on Saturday after he had not heard from him in several days. His cause of death remains unknown and is currently being investigated by the NYPD.

Pastore’s Film Career

While Pastore’s role on The Sopranos remains his most famous, he built an extensive career as a character actor, particularly in mob-related films. He appeared in roughly 30 episodes across the show’s seven seasons and also featured in films such as Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way, Witness to the Mob, and Men of Respect.

Pastore also appeared in Gotti, Revolver, and explored comedy roles in films including The Jerky Boys: The Movie, Mickey Blue Eyes, Shark Tale, and Made.

Pastore’s Family Life

Pastore was born in the Bronx and raised in New Rochelle, New York. His father, John Pastore, was a well-respected figure in the neighborhood and worked as a bookie.

He was previously married to Nancy Berke before the couple later divorced, though the exact timeline of their marriage remains private.

The couple had one daughter together, Renee, and despite their divorce, Pastore remained extremely close with his ex-wife and even developed a friendship with her next husband.

Nancy and Renee remained central figures in Pastore’s life and are among those he leaves behind.
