The Thorium features both goose down and synthetic polyester insulation for best-of-both-worlds performance. The main body of the jacket is filled with 750-fill-power goose down, and it’s paired with synthetic fill in critical high-moisture areas (down loses its heat-trapping power when damp). Weather around the midwest has caused thousands of flight delays and travel issues over the Thanksgiving holiday, disrupting travel and making life difficult for millions of Americans in the region.

Some states were hit with over a foot of snow over the weekend, and the National Weather Service says that more is on the way. Some areas are set to receive an additional three to five inches of snow, making travel even more difficult across both Monday and Tuesday.

More inclement weather is set to come to the Northeastern part of the country, and some meteorologists believe it could bring severe, bitter cold along with it.

Snow Expected Before Polar Vortex

According to AccuWeather’s Brandon Buckingham, “the rain vs. snow line is expected to come close to the Interstate 95 corridor between Monday night and Tuesday.”

“A slight shift in the storm track farther offshore could help to pull in cold enough air for snow to occur in places like Philadelphia, New York City and Boston.”

Snowfall of six inches or more is possible in certain areas, but the snow could be the least of the issues facing those in the region.

MIT climatologist Judah Cohen believes that severe cold is coming to the Northeast, telling USA TODAY that the cold weather and snow this week will be an “appetizer,” and that the “main course will be in mid-December.”

Based on findings from his team’s weather modeling computer, Cohen says the extent of cold weather will stretch from the plains of Canada to the United States’ East Coast in the third week of the month.

Cold Air and Bitter Temperatures

The cold air will come from a rapidly-moving polar vortex that will shift lower than expected. Cohen isn’t sure what the exact temperatures will be in a matter of weeks, but he believes they’ll be lower than what those in the Midwest are currently experiencing.

For reference, temperatures in the Midwest are between the 10s and 20s this week, and some areas have experienced temperatures at or below 0.

New York City hasn’t experienced a white Christmas since 2009, when two inches of snow fell on the ground in the center of Manhattan. The phenomenon has been relatively rare in the Big Apple, but the bitter cold and expected snowy conditions could make it more possible than normal this time around.

It’s rare for a film boasting a cast this impressive to fly under the radar, but that’s exactly what happened to Sydney Sweeney’s latest venture into the thriller genre. Despite one of the most impressive A-list casts in recent memory, which also includes Ana de Armas, Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby, the Ron Howard-directed survival drama had a brutal box-office showing during its limited theatrical run. Now, after one of the most disappointing performances, the star-studded flop will seek redemption on its new streaming home after receiving an official Netflix premiere date.

Inside ‘Eden’: The Survival Thriller That Couldn’t Survive the Box Office

Even with an impressive cast and intriguing storyline, Eden proved to be one of the biggest box office flops of the year. The movie is based on a wild true story from the 1930s, which features a group of Europeans on the remote island of Floreana in the Galapagos. They’re forced to run for their lives, but the greatest danger proves not to be the deadly wildlife, but instead each other.

Law plays Dr. Friedrich Ritter, who’s joined by his wife Dore (Vanessa Kirby), and the two begin to set up shop and create a new life. Their plans get turned upside-down when Heinz and Margret Wittmer arrive, played by Daniel Bruhl and Sydney Sweeney. Shortly after is the arrival of de Armas, who, along with her two partners, plans to build a high-end hotel.

Although the film received solid reviews from fans, critics weren’t on board with the final result. Eden earned a 73 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes from fans, but only a 57 percent critics’ score. This earned the movie a “rotten” label shortly after its August 2025 theatrical release.

Eden had a budget of roughly $55 million, which dropped to $35 million following Australian incentives. However, even with the interesting concept, big names and plenty of potential, it pulled in just over $2.8 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

When Will Sydney Sweeney’s New Movie Arrive on Netflix?

Following the box-office disappointment, Eden will now leap to Netflix and arrive just in time for Christmas. As What’s on Netflix reported, the movie will make its streaming debut on Dec. 23, 2025, giving it a chance to pull in viewers during the wind-down times of days like Christmas Eve and Christmas.

Whether it can capture the interest of fans on Netflix will be a big question mark. However, after barely making a dent at the box office, Eden faces a significant uphill climb to drive interest. On a positive note, the solid reviews from viewers could be enough for those seeking feedback on the streaming release.

Regardless, it’s hard to argue that there’s a better-timed move to Netflix for its streaming debut than just before the holidays.

If you’re looking for a fun city in the United States, look to the desert or just head south. 

That is according to a new study released by WalletHub that attempts to determine the best American cities for having a good time in a cost-effective way. 

Las Vegas, Nev., topped the list while the next four cities can all be found in the South. 

Bet on good times in Sin City

Vegas beat all comers thanks to ranking No. 1 in two of the three overall categories: Entertainment/recreation and nightlife/parties. 

It was also a respectable 15th in the third category: cost. 

That includes being the cheapest place for finding a nice hamburger, but the high number of music festivals, music venues, dance clubs, and comedy clubs was a bigger factor. 

Fun in the Sunshine State 

Orlando is No. 2 on the list, followed by Miami. 

Being home to Disney World obviously boosted Orlando’s ranking, but WalletHub notes the city has relatively inexpensive accommodations and outside of the Mouse’s House and a large number of sports stadiums per capita. 

Orlando also ranks as one of the top cities for spas, performing arts theaters, arcades, pool halls, and lounges. 

Miami leads the nation in fishing facilities, marinas, boat tours and water sports opportunities per capita, and 89% of its residents live within a mile of a park. 

Vegas, Miami, and Orlando tied (with San Francisco and Houston) for the most restaurants per capita.

Other takeaways 

Six of the top eight are found in the South or Texas, and seven of the top 30 are on the West Coast.  

Cincinnati was the only city in the Midwest to crack the top 10 and one of only three from the region to make the top 30: The Queen City is joined by No. 11 Chicago and No. 13 St. Louis. 

New York City checked in at No. 14 overall, a ranking dragged down by affordability (181st out of 182). 

“The most fun cities naturally include some of the most popular tourist destinations in the U.S., like Las Vegas, Orlando and Miami, but these cities are far more than tourist traps,” Wallethub analyst Chip Lupo said in a news release.

“They provide a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for all types of interests, from sports to theaters to arcades, and they have plenty of diverse restaurants to try. The top cities offer affordable options for year-round fun for their residents, which is good for residents’ wallets and their mental health.”

Then they evaluated the cities using 65 metrics listed below with their corresponding weights.

Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the greatest number and variety of fun and cost-effective activities.
