Whether on a long-haul flight or a short 3-hour trip, a majority of passengers take advantage of reclining their seats to get some shut-eye. The Canadian airline, WestJet, has announced they are removing reclining seats from its aircraft.

WestJet revealed in its press release that they are reconfiguring its 43 Boeing 737-8 MAX and 737-800 aircraft to provide a more “modern cabin experience.” It will include upgraded premium seating and “extended comfort seating options.”

Part of their new rollout includes regular economy seats that have “a fixed recline design,” meant to help preserve a passenger’s personal space. WestJet explained its decision as a way to meet guest demands for a wider range of travel options while staying within budget.

If wanting to catch some sleep and recline, the Premium cabin has been redesigned with 12 new seats with “ergonomically contoured seat cushions, reclining seat backs, and a large headrest with four-way adjustment capability.”

Behind a cabin divider will also be the Extended Comfort section, equipped with 36 seats. The section offers more legroom than regular economy, with WestJet explaining the economy cabin, “offers choices ranging from less space at the back to more space near the front of the cabin.”

Part of WestJet’s press release also reveals that its new design reduces the cost per ticket with its slim-line seats, allowing the airline to add an extra row of seating. It further explains that it’s ultimately up to the travelers on how much they want to spend for comfort on a WestJet flight.

“The layout for our refreshed cabin caters to our guests’ diverse preferences. Whether they opt for Premium seating with extra amenities and legroom or for more affordable ticket prices with less space, we’re excited to introduce this range of products for our guests to enjoy,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer.

The wife of former NFL running back and current New England Patriots executive Alonzo Highsmith has died at the age of 61.

The passing of Denise Chong Highsmith was “unexpected,” according to a social media post announcing her death, which was shared on Tuesday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, Denise Elizabeth Highsmith,” the post reads. “Denise was truly one of a kind—a fun, loving, and free-spirited soul who embraced everyone without judgment. She poured into the lives of others with kindness, laughter, and service, and in doing so, she found joy and fulfillment. To know her was to feel seen, loved, and uplifted.”

A funeral for Highsmith will be held at Fountain of Praise in Houston, Texas next Tuesday, with streaming of the service available for those unable to attend.

A memorial service in Miami is also planned for the future.

“Denise will forever be remembered for the light she brought into the world, and her spirit will live on in all of us 💜,” the post concluded.

The Highsmiths were married more than three decades

Alonzo Highsmith was a college football legend and national champion at the University of Miami in the 1980s before embarking on a pro career from 1987-1993.

He and his wife were married in 1990, celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary in June.

“Thirty-five years and here we are! To God be the Glory, He has brought us through so much, here’s to couple more forevers…. Luv you long time ‘Lonzo! 🤎🤎✨✨,” Denise said in an Instagram post at the time.

Alonzo Highsmith has been a senior personnel executive with the Patriots since 2024. So far, neither he nor the team have addressed his wife’s death publicly.

Prior to his time in New England, Highsmith spent two years as the GM of Football Operations at his alma mater and also had stints in personnel with the Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks.

One lucky Wheel of Fortune contestant just won the largest prize in the show’s history.

Christina Derevjanik, of Stamford, CT, took home a whopping $1,035,155 in cash on Tuesday night’s show. Derevjanik laid the groundwork for her sweep early in the show when she secured the coveted “One Million Dollars” wedge. She then went on to win $33,155 in cash as well as trips to Montana and Japan before moving on to the show’s bonus round.

At the beginning of the bonus round, Derevjanik joked that if she won the million dollar prize she’d immediately resign from her job. Host Ryan Seacrest advised her against such remarks, reminding her that her boss was in the audience. Derevjanik picked the category “Living Things” and went on the solve the puzzle, the answer to which was “pack of coyotes.” After her answer, Seacrest held a $1 million envelope aloft.

“You won a million dollars,” the host told Derevjanik as she celebrated her win in a burst of confetti. “I’m so happy for you,” co-host Vanna White told the lucky winner as they shared a hug.

“I’m in tears,” Seacrest said, as Derevjanik exclaimed, “I can pay off my student loans!” Regarding her promise to resign, Derevjanik demurred, saying she’ll discuss the matter with her boss “once we get back to the office.”

Derevjanik Is One of Five People to Win Over $1 Million on the Show

“I just completely went into another world,” Derevjanik later shared in a post-show interview on Wheel of Fortune’s Facebook page. “I was like ‘Oh my God! I can’t even believe that I can now pay things off [and] put stresses aside.’ This is amazing, I’m so happy.”

Derevjanik’s prize is the largest ever awarded in the show’s history. She joins an elite party of just five Wheel of Fortune contestants who have won $1 million or more. The first to win over $1 million was Michelle Loewenstein in Oct. 2008 ($1.026M). Lowenstein was followed by Autumn Erhard in 2013 ($1.030M), Sarah Manchester in 2014 ($1.017M), and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune contestant Melissa Joan Hart in 2021 ($1M).
