The CEO of a major regional chain of grocery stores has passed away in Eugene, OR.

Market of Choice CEO Rick Wright passed away at the age of 62 from natural causes at his home on June 29, according to The Oregonian. He grew up in his family-owned company, rising through the ranks of his father Richard Wright Sr.’s business. The stores were originally known as Thrifty and Price Choppers, but were rebranded as Market of Choice, which now operates 12 stores.

Wright graduated from college in 1984, hoping to do anything but the family grocery store business. “When I first entered college, I swore that I would never be in the food industry, that I would never sell groceries,” he told The Register-Guard in March 2002.

He joined the workforce when the economy “wasn’t superb” and accepted a job from grocery wholesaler Supervalu ahead of joining his dad’s business in 1990 and eventually taking over in 1997 when Wright Sr. retired.

Wright saw the need to create a more “hybrid” space for grocery stores that merged natural foods with everyday items.

“Along the way, I came up with this idea of ‘Market of Choice,’” Wright told KLCC’s Oregon Rainmakers podcast in 2022. “We didn’t know that was going to be our name at the time, but we knew that there was this hybrid concept of bringing in a lot of local products, a lot of organics and naturals, but having some of them side-by-side with conventional products and putting them all under one roof.”

Wright is survived by his wife, Debbie, and their three children, Zach, Staci, and Sydney, as well as two grandchildren, Mina and Finley.

The summer 2025 blockbuster season is upon us. After the warm-ups of Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, F1: The Movie, and Thunderbolts*, things are about to truly kick off as Jurassic World Rebirth hits theatres in the middle of the week.

This is the seventh Jurassic World film overall. Rebirth is already receiving mixed reviews from critics who have seen it early. But, when you look at the average Jurassic film’s critical reception, a 50/50 chance of it being good isn’t so bad. But, how much money will it make?

According to projections from Deadline, Jurassic World Rebirth could have a massive Fourth of July opening weekend, and, because it’s opening in various global markets, could net around $260 million. If that happens, it could get close to being the best opening weekend of any movie this year. As of now, A Minecraft Movie holds that spot, when it made $313.2 million on its opening weekend on April 4.

Other than F1: The Movie, Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth has little competition over the long holiday. However, all of that changes next week, when Superman hits theaters for early screenings on July 8 and all theaters on July 12.

July will be a very interesting month for summer movies. While F1, Jurassic World Rebirth, and Superman all duke it out in the early weeks of July, the month will end with the next big Marvel gamble, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

From a pure entertainment level, all of these movies offer something great for moviegoers. But, which one will end up on top will be a question we can only answer by the end of the summer.

Idris Elba is one of the most respected actors in all of Hollywood, a distinction he’s earned through hard work and a long career. 

He’s now 52 – several years removed from breaking into the mainstream as part of HBO’s “The Wire” – and recently took some time to reflect on his life and the journey he’s taken during it.

Elba joined Amy Poehler on the latest episode of her “Good Hang” podcast, and the two actors discussed the adjustments they’ve made since reaching their 50s.

“I don’t love that, at this age, the age of [having] wellness and consciousness, is so upon us, yet our bodies fail us,” Elba said.

Poehler joked that simply getting out bed can be a challenge at their age (Poehler is 53), and Elba noted that so much of how the world works now stemmed from the work their generation did when they were younger.

“Some of the coolest things — art, music, culture, some of the craziest world politics that set the dynamics for where we are right now — all happened when our emotions were blossoming, and our adolescence was growing,” the actor noted.

Elba also noted that his influences and motivations have changed with age, saying that he’s not as easily persuaded or motivated to do certain things as he’s gotten older.

“I think in my 30s and 40s, I was blowing with the wind a little bit with what was influencing me, what my goals were,” he noted.

“And in the 50s, I’m like, ‘Nah. That wind has to pass around me.’ I’m not getting as easily influenced.”

Elba said that he wants to continue to learn as he gets older – especially about things that he can relate to his current areas of expertise.

“It’s about, ‘Oh, that’s new, but how is it connected to what I already know?’ That cusp is really interesting to me,” he said.

“We talk about AI and all that stuff. I refer to it as like, ‘Wow. That’s the future that we talked about as kids that was just in our imaginations, and here it is.'”

Elba has managed to maintain his youthful sense of wonder and excitement through his career as an actor, and he’s also launched successful ventures in the music industry as a DJ and rapper.

We’ll see what the next few years hold for Elba, but if they’re as exciting as what he did for the last 20, there’s plenty of room for interest. 

Having a problem with nightmares and poor sleep? You might want to be mindful of what you’re eating and when you’re eating it.

A study done at the University of Montreal that was published in Frontiers in Psychology finds that certain foods eaten during the evening or late at night may cause nightmares and impact sleep.

The study involved 1,082 participants and 40.2% of them reported that certain foods either helped or hurt their sleep. Also, 5.5% of the participants reported that food impacted their dreams.

The study found that it was plausible that those who both consumed dairy products and had lactose intolerance were more susceptible to “bizarre or disturbing dreams.”

Dairy products were only the second-most troublesome thing when it came to bad dreams, though, as desserts and sweets topped the list among respondents.

“The perceived effect of food on dreams was associated with higher nightmare recall and Nightmare Disorder Index scores, with changes being blamed primarily on desserts/sweets (31%) and dairy (22%),” the study said.

As far as lactose-related nightmares are concerned, issues with digesting the dairy products while sleeping could be at the root of the problem. Food allergies and gluten intolerance were also mentioned.

Bloating, gas, diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramping, and nausea and vomiting are all gastrointestinal issues that are symptoms of lactose intolerance, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Researchers also noted that healthier eating — and particularly less eating in the evening — was linked to better dream recall.
