Sophie Cunningham Receives Blunt Message From NFL Player

Earlier this week news broke that the WNBA is expanding to Cleveland in 2028, followed by Detroit in 2029 and Philadelphia in 2030, bringing the league to 18 teams.

When asked about the change, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham didn’t exactly hold back on the chosen locations. She would have rather seen a number of other cities like Miami or Kansas City get a team instead.

“You want to listen to your players, too. Like where do they want to play?” she said. “Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans? I think Miami would have been a great one. Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity. There’s a huge arena downtown that nobody is using.”

“I’m not so sure what the thought process is there, but at the end of the day, you want to make sure that you’re not expanding our league too fast. I think that that’s also another thing. It’s kind of a hard decision-making situation. But man, I don’t know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or [Cleveland].”

Her comments caught the attention of Detroit Lions offensive lineman Dan Skipper, who didn’t take too kindly to her opinion. “You ever been there? Pretty good place to play, well not for you now,” he said bluntly.

Earlier on the afternoon of July 1 the city of Detroit clapped back at the Fever fan favorite as well.

“The last time we were home to a WNBA team (Detroit Shock) we ranked top five in attendance for five straight seasons, No. 1 in attendance for three straight seasons and set a single-game attendance record of 22,076 fans at Game 3 of the 2003 WNBA Finals,” the City of Detroit account wrote.

Cunningham certainly didn’t add any fans in Detroit this week.

Police Lure Bank Robber With Soda and a Drone After Hours-Long Standoff

A 31-year-old man held a bank employee hostage during a failed bank robbery in Sagniaw, MI., and the hours-long standoff came to a bizarre end thanks to a tactic that you’d swear only works in cartoons.

According to multiple reports, Quinton M. Allen of Detroit is accused of entering the Mercantile Saginaw Virtual Branch and Lending Office on Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m. The location had already been closed for about a half hour but he somehow managed to get inside. Police have not shared how he was able to get inside.

Allen tried cashing a fraudulent check, but even if the check was legit the bank doesn’t carry cash on the premises, and appointments are required to visit the branch for services. Allen reportedly grew furious and demanded cash, but the lone female bank employee, 40, reminded Allen there was no cash in the building.

Police were called and an hours-long standoff ensued. During discussions with police negotiators, Allen told them he craved a Faygo Red Pop soda.

Nearly three hours into the standoff, police decided enough was enough. Their strategy? Police decided to dangle a bottle of Faygo Red Pop soda from a drone.

This prompted Allen to step in front of the bank’s window to retrieve it, and when he extended his body to reach for the soda a trooper — perched on the roof of an AutoZone Auto Parts store across the street from the bank — fired a single shot, fatally striking Allen.

Police rushed in to retrieve the bank employee, who was unharmed. Allen, who has had run-ins with the law and was on probation following breaking and entering and first-degree retail fraud convictions, died at the scene.

“Our hearts are with Mercantile Bank, its employees, and everyone affected by Friday’s events,” shared the nearby Health Advantage Credit Union. “This is a difficult time for our community, and we’re thankful for those who worked to keep others safe.”

Love the Tudor Black Bay Dive Watch? This Must-Have Model Is Their Biggest Yet

Sometimes it’s hard to tell what direction that watch world is heading. Not long ago, it seemed like each new release was bigger than the last. But more recently, smaller—dare I say more elegant—watches have been in vogue. However, leave it to Tudor to head in its own direction, and while everyone else goes small, they have gone big with their newest dive watch.

For over 60 years Tudor has been producing its iconic Black Bay diving watch, and now the Swiss brand is introducing the largest addition to the lineup, the 68. Arriving in two new colors, blue and silver, the 43mm METAS-certified Master Chronometer offers fans the opportunity to own the famed underwater timekeeper in a completely new case size that also includes all of the hallmarks of a classic Tudor divers watch.

“This time it’s all about thinking big, and that means producing a larger Black Bay to round out the full array of case sizes for every wrist size,” said Tudor upon announcing the new addition to the lineup. “Now, with the Black Bay 68, there’s truly a Black Bay for everyone.”

Made in stainless steel with a 60-minute unidirectional black bezel with silver accents, the Tudor Black Bay 68 is all about nods to the brand’s past. From the “Snowflake” hands that were first dreamed up in 1968 and have been part of the Tudor’s diving watches since introduced in ‘69 to the “Tudor Blue” face option to the classic rose on its crown, almost every detail throughout the piece points to some significant point in the maker’s history. Those Snowflake hands also feature Grade A Swiss Super-LumiNova luminescent material, which basically means they glow in the dark, a necessity when heading towards depths of 200 meters, which is where the watch is rated to be waterproof up to.

At its heart is the Calibre MT5601-U, which features a silicon hairspring and a 70-hour power reserve. It’s also impervious to magnetic fields below 15,000 gauss.

The three-link stainless steel bracelet features smooth side flanks and polished and satin finishes. In both blue and silver the Tudor Black Bay 68 is priced at $4,850 and can be purchased via retailers across the United States.

FX Announces Decision on ‘The Bear’ Season 5 After Ratings Decline

Late last week a report emerged suggesting The Bear would be back for a fifth season – though the timing of a potential release date was murky at best.

According to Variety, series creator Christopher Storer already has an idea of where he wants the story to go, but the rising stardom of its elite cast is causing a problem. Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach all have loaded schedules, which makes finding a time to film a fifth season a potential problem.

Add in the fact that Season 4 of the show received the worst Rotten Tomatoes score of the FX hit’s tenure and fans were wondering if a fifth season would receive the green light. They received their answer on July 1.

In a statement from FX chairman John Landgraf, via Deadline, The Bear will be coming back for another season.

The Bear continues to be a fan favorite worldwide and their response to this season — as seen through incredibly high viewership — has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons,” Landgraf said. “Year-in and year-out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast and crew make The Bear one of the best shows on television, and we are excited that they will continue to tell this magnificent story.”

After initially debuting with a 71 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the fourth season of the show currently sits at 84 percent from critics, but just 66 percent from fans. The critic score for the fourth season is the lowest in the show’s young history, while Season 3 took the cake for the worst score from fans.

Season 5 is slated for release in 2026.
