Netflix’s ‘How to Get to Heaven from Belfast’ Faces 77.8% Chance of Cancellation: Study

It’s only July 1, but Netflix has already 18 original series. More than two dozen have been renewed, with several still waiting on their fate.

Canada Sports Betting (CSB) has examined the ones in limbo in an attempt to determine which Netflix series is likely to be canceled next. They site used four data points: how long Netflix has gone silent, chart performance, critic and audience scores, and live IMDb popularity, as of June 30.

The ‘most likely’ next cancellation may surprise you

According to CSB, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast has a 77.8% chance of getting canceled, ahead of Beef (44.3%) and The Witness (34.8%).

The eight-part Irish comedy thriller premiered on Netflix on February 12, to widespread audience and critical approval. It has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 79/100 on Metacritic, based on “generally favorable” critical reviews.

That’s great, but it isn’t enough to overcome middling ratings, says CSB.

“Never appeared in the Global Top 10. Anywhere. Once. Reviews are strong: 95% critic, 79% audience. It does not matter without chart numbers to back it up,” the outlet wrote. “Five months. No word. That is the story.”

What is the story?

Well, Netflix hasn’t said anything yet, even though it has been almost five full months since the series hit the platform.

This week, What’s on Netflix’s Kasey Moore praised the series, adding that the door was left open for a second installment. However, he is “leaning” toward it being canceled.

“[Creator Lisa] McGee herself has publicly stated she purposefully left things open for a second season but acknowledged that it’s entirely up to the audience turnout,” Moore said. “It never took to the charts in any meaningful way, and we suspect we won’t see a return of any description.”

McGee did indeed say at the time of the show’s release that she had the material for another season, but also acknowledged she was at the mercy of audiences.

“I’ve left it open for a second series but it’s all completely down to how many people watch. I’d love to do one,” she said.

Doctors Say You’re Tracking the Wrong Smartwatch Data—Here’s What Actually Matters

If you wear a smartwatch or smart ring to keep tabs on your health, you’re not alone. Nearly 40% of Americans now use some type of wearable. As reported by Reuters, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said he wants every American wearing one within four years as part of his Make America Healthy Again agenda.

But according to experts interviewed by The New York Times, the numbers your wearable collects aren’t equally valuable. While some can help identify real health concerns, others are better viewed as wellness tools than medical data.

The Health Numbers Your Doctor Is Actually Looking For

Your smartwatch tracks dozens of health metrics, but doctors say only a few really matter. According to The New York Times, the most useful include AFib detection, daily step count, and basic sleep habits.

Erica Spatz, MD, director of Yale’s preventive cardiovascular health program, told The New York Times that some smartwatches can accurately flag atrial fibrillation, a potentially dangerous heart rhythm. One Apple Watch study found irregular pulse alerts matched medical-grade ECG results 84% of the time.

Doctors also look at how much you move. Research reported in NYT has linked walking about 7,000 steps a day with a lower risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and dementia.

Sleep data can help, too. Cheri Mah, MD, a sleep physician and adjunct lecturer at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center, told NYT that total sleep time and a consistent sleep schedule are more useful than detailed sleep scores. By contrast, metrics like blood oxygen, blood pressure, VO2 max, heart rate variability, biological age, and stress scores aren’t yet considered reliable enough for most medical decisions.

The Simple Way to Make Your Wearable Work for You

Instead of monitoring every statistic your device provides, focus on these habits:

  • Aim for about 7,000 steps a day.
  • Pay attention to changes in your resting heart rate or heart rhythm, especially if you have symptoms.
  • Focus on getting enough sleep and keeping a consistent bedtime routine.
  • Review weekly or monthly trends instead of checking your stats throughout the day.
  • Share ongoing changes, not one-off readings, with your healthcare provider.

As Dr. Spatz told NYT, wearable devices can help tell your health story. But researchers are still figuring out which numbers doctors can confidently use to guide medical care.
