What Shoppers Should Know

  • Colors: Gray, black
  • Sizes: 7 to 14
  • Fit: Runs snug (recommended to up half a size)
  • Best For: Training, HIIT, WODs, walking, easy runs, recovery, leisurewear

One of the brand’s most accessible trainers, these shoes are made for the everyday gym-goer looking for a solid pair that can handle all types of workouts, including vigorous HIIT sessions. They use a flat, stable heel platform, which is ideal for strength training and explosive movements, with a stacked midfoot foam for support under heavy loads. The flex grooves in the forefoot help with agility, too. They also feature high-abrasion mesh and wrapped rubber sides for extra durability.

Compared to Nike’s other legendary workout shoes, these sit below the Metcon lineup, while still offering similar design elements. These have the same stability for heavy squat sessions, but without the firmer, ultra-tech-based platform needed for competitive lifting. However, they are lighter and more flexible, and per shoppers, more comfortable for mixed-use training like cardio sessions. Compared to Nike’s TR1s, they have a simpler, softer underfoot feel that’s a better choice for affordability or new fitness enthusiasts.

While Metcons cost around $120 to $150, and the TR1s come in around $100 to $120, these Legend Essentials dropping to $37 puts them at one of the lowest prices you’ll see any Nike shoe hit.

What Shoppers Are Saying

While these workout shoes are still accumulating a solid collection of reviews, they have already earned nearly 50 five-star ratings from impressed owners. One noted that these “very solid” and “comfortable” performance shoes are great for even demanding HIIT sessions, helping eliminate their sore feet and shin pain.

Another echoed that they are recommended for HIIT-style workouts as well, noting they have a good fit, are “very bouncy,” and are very light, breathable, and “extremely comfy.” A third said they’re the best shoes for the money thanks to their build and “barefoot” feel.

Nike’s Cyber Monday sale ends Dec. 2, and sizes are already getting scarce in select options, so you’ll likely not want to wait and grab your Legend Essential 3s right now.

New Report Reveals Which U.S. States Have the Biggest Sweet Tooth

Once you start reading food labels and measuring portion sizes, it’s easy to see how much added sugar hides in everyday products—even those that are marketed as “healthy.” Thanks to this, Americans consume far more sugar than experts recommend, averaging 17 teaspoons of added sugar a day, which is nearly double the daily limit for men and almost triple for women, according to the American Heart Association.

But not every state is equally sweet-toothed. A recent analysis of national data examined regional patterns in America’s sugar habits. The study from Escoffier combined data from the National Center for Health Statistics, beverage sales reports, and national dietary surveys to capture overall sugar intake. The 10 highest sugar-consuming states are Kentucky, Mississippi, South Dakota, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.

Kentucky stands out as the country’s sugar capital. Residents consume an average of 21.2 teaspoons of added sugar per day, topping the charts for sugary drinks and snacks. This aligns with the state’s broader health struggles, including high rates of obesity and diabetes. Experts blame Kentucky’s sweet tea culture, comfort food traditions, and economic challenges.

The South and Midwest dominate the upper portion of the rankings, with six of the top 10 sugar-consuming states being in the South, including Mississippi, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Alabama. Three come from the Midwest, including South Dakota, Iowa, and Indiana. These regions seem to share preferences for sweet foods along with higher poverty rates and widespread chain restaurant access, which often leads to higher sugar intake.

On the other hand, Western and Northeastern states tend to consume less sugar. Seven of the bottom 10 states are in the West, including California, Oregon, and Idaho, with Vermont and Massachusetts rounding out the list. Researchers attribute the lower consumption to better access to fresh and local produce, health-conscious cultural norms, and policy interventions like soda taxes in select cities, which have reduced sugar-sweetened beverage intake.

15-Year-Old Sets Impressive Bench Press Record at World Powerlifting Championship

Powerlifting is a tough sport built around maximizing weight on the squat, bench press, and deadlift. But last month, Idaho-based teenager Colter Rammell made breaking a world record in the sport look effortless. He was invited to lift for the USA powerlifting team at the World Powerlifting Championship in Durban, South Africa. With 14 other powerlifters on the team, the 15-year-old was the youngest. Still, that didn’t stop him from setting a world record in the lift he excels at the most: the bench press.

“We were looking at the record book, and there was a kid years ago from England, and he was a stud. He set like every weightlifting record there was. But we were looking and noticed that there was one weight he didn’t get for whatever reason,” Colter’s father, Greg Rammell, told KSL. “We saw that it was achievable.”

Colter went on to set a world record in the equipped single-ply bench press at 90 kilograms (198 pounds). He also broke his own national raw bench record, pressing 100 kilograms (220 pounds) after previously hitting 95 kilograms (209 pounds).

He typically benches raw, meaning he lifts without a supportive shirt and relies solely on his strength and technique. In a single-ply bench press, the lifter uses a tight, supportive shirt, similar to a compression top, to help move more weight than they could on their own. This is part of what’s known as “equipped” powerlifting.

Colter certainly seems to have a bright future in the sport. At just 15, he’s already competed in multiple bodybuilding competitions and has been training in the gym with his dad since middle school.

“I didn’t really enjoy playing football, but I had to do something, so I began really using calisthenics to get stronger. Just pushups and squats,” Colter said. “I got to the point where I was so strong, I was being told to start doing powerlifting.”

We have a feeling this won’t be the last world record he breaks.

Popular Influencer Livestreams Himself Getting Into Car Crash

A popular Twitch streamer is counting his blessings after livestreaming himself getting into a serious car accident over the weekend.

Twitch streamer MeltIsLIVE was streaming live while driving on I-85 north of downtown Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday when he lost control of his car, according to TMZ. The vehicle reportedly clipped the car of Melt’s friend who was driving alongside him, per Daily Mail.

In the video below, you can see the view of the crash from inside the car driven by MeltIsLIVE, whose real name is Jalen Melton, as well as the aftermath of the impact.

Melton escapes serious harm, but car is wrecked

In the video above, you can see Melton’s car looking totaled on the side of the road with smoke coming out and various pieces on the ground.

Melton, who was also involved in a crash in April 2024 because he was on his phone interacting with followers while driving, attempted to blame his friend Jayshaun for hitting him, Daily Mail writes.

“Every time I get in the car, I think I’m gonna crash,” Melton said later on his live stream. “It could be somebody else driving. It’s not a skill issue. I wasn’t speeding. This is the thing, I just happened to be going faster than the person next to me. I’m so traumatized. I am traumatized. I have had an airbag deploy on me twice, on top of being knocked out. What is happening to me?”

Twitch, meanwhile, has banned Melton for a “violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service,” which occurred when he filmed himself while at the wheel.
