Germany’s world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich came to a screeching halt on Wednesday morning after officials warned about a bomb threat following a deadly explosion.

According to The Associated Press, the fairgrounds were closed and more than 500 police officers were deployed to the scene, including bomb-sniffing dogs.

The massive police presence was triggered after a Mercedes-Benz sprinter van containing explosives went off and fully engulfed the vehicle in nearby northern Munich, according to the German news agency Deutsche Welle.

At the scene, police found a letter written by the suspected perpetrator. The letter contained a “non-specific” threat of explosives related to Oktoberfest, according to The Associated Press.

Police have since reportedly linked the deadly explosion and subsequent residential building fire, which had been deliberately set, to a domestic dispute. One person reportedly died in the fire, and it’s believed to be the suspect’s father.

Police identified a 57-year-old German national as the culprit. The suspect, who later took his own life after a police helicopter reportedly tracked him down at a nearby lake, had been carrying a backpack containing an explosive device.

The suspect’s 81-year-old mother and 21-year-old daughter are said to have been injured in the residential building fire. Police at the scene of the residential building had to call specialized teams to defuse booby traps, according to The AP.

Oktoberfest reopens

Back at the festival grounds, police made a massive security sweep and gave the all-clear, according to The Associated Press. The festival was supposed to be closed until 5 p.m. local time, but the grounds have since reopened.

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival, attracting up to 6 million visitors. The festival started on Sept. 20 and it ends on Sunday.

Hollywood actor Nicole Kidman and country singer Keith Urban have called it quits after 19 years of marriage. Kidman announced their divorce on September 30, claiming irreconcilable differences. Their split might have been a long time coming, as a report from July claims Kidman filed for residency in Portugal, without Urban present.

In documents obtained by The New York Post, the Babygirl actor was looking for new property to obtain in the country, while she and Urban already own a home in Parque das Nações. She applied for the residency through the country’s Agency for Integration, Migration, and Asylum.

News outlets reported that Urban was noticeably absent from the official documents and wasn’t mentioned in any paperwork. At the time, a source claimed that it was simply due to Urban having been on tour.

“Keith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the US and it is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa,” they said.

They also explained that Urban would submit his own application “at a later date that works with his tour schedule.” The source claims they would still own their home in Portugal with their primary residence in Nashville.

With news of their divorce, it’s unclear if Urban was planning to submit his residency at all. Urban is currently on his High and Alive World Tour with dates scheduled into October.

According to Page Six, a source close to Kidman claims she feels “betrayed” and “devastated” by their divorce. TMZ also reported from sources that Urban is reportedly already seeing another woman. A source also reports that Urban wasn’t as supportive of Kidman’s acting career.

Kidman and Urban first met in 2005 at a Los Angeles gala and married the following year. They share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

An NFL assistant coach is reportedly stable after suffering an “unknown medical episode” during his team’s practice Wednesday morning.

According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, paramedics were called to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ team facility for running backs coach Skip Peete, who needed medical attention for an undisclosed reason and was taken to a hospital.

“Paramedics were called to the Bucs indoor facility Wed morning to attend to RBs coach Skip Peete, who had an unknown medical episode at practice but is stable,” Stroud wrote. “Peete was awake and alert, however. He was transported to a hospital.”

Peete, 62, has been the Bucs’ running backs coach since 2023. He also has stints in the same role with the Dallas Cowboys (2007-12, 2020-22), Los Angeles Rams (2016-19), Chicago Bears (2013-14) and Oakland Raiders (1998-2006).

The brother of former USC and NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, Peete coached at the collegiate level at Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Rutgers and UCLA from 1988-97.

Bucs hurting all over

Obviously, we’re happy to hear Peete is awake and stable, and we’re hoping that whatever problem he had today, it wasn’t as serious as it seemed. Whether or not he’s able to resume his coaching duties is not as important as his overall health.

On another note, it’s not shocking the Bucs would have some type of health trouble with their coaching staff, because at the moment, their roster is a walking MASH unit.

Injuries are piling up for Tampa Bay (3-1), which is already without key contributors like wide receiver Mike Evans, offensive lineman Luke Goedeke and Cody Mauch and defensive tackle Calijah Kancey.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield is also a bit banged up, and running back Bucky Irving is on crutches and wearing a protective boot after suffering a foot injury in last Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Additionally, cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Benjamin Morrison and defensive tackle Greg Gaines left Sunday’s game due to injuries, as did pass rusher Haason Reddick.
