Since launching the new DCU, the work of DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn has ignited a tremendous interest in upcoming projects. The success of the David Corenswet-led Superman, along with a new fan-favorite Lex Luthor in Nicholas Hoult, was the first addition to the DCU that made plenty of noise. That was followed by an excellent start to Season 2 of the hit series Peacemaker, led by John Cena, culminating in a reboot that has drawn significant interest in Gunn’s upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold.

However, the biggest question still looms large—who will play the role of Bruce Wayne? Several actors have been linked to the role, and even Gunn himself has admitted that there’s no shortage of interest from big names to play the iconic superhero, even if he hasn’t officially started the casting process yet. One name that has been linked to the casting rumors since very early on is the star of the hit series 1923, Brandon Sklenar. Gunn’s recent praise of Sklenar threw even more fuel on the rumors, and now Sklenar himself has drawn attention for a recent post about the potential role.

Brandon Sklenar Responds to Photoshopped Image of Him as Batman

For what it’s worth, Sklenar’s interest in playing Batman became widely known back in April 2025, when he admitted he loved the idea of portraying Bruce Wayne during an interview with Screen Rant.

“I mean, for Batman? [laughs] Let’s keep running with that! That’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid — and I’ve never even talked about it — It just started happening and I was like, “This is cool!” And now, maybe, hopefully, it happens one day,” Sklenar said.

“I’d love to do it. It’s literally a childhood dream to do something like that, specifically that character. If I [were] ever to do any type of thing in the superhero space, that’s what it would be.”

These comments made Sklenar’s reaction to a post showing him photoshopped as Batman not a huge surprise, however the timing coming after Gunn’s recent comments pushed raised fan interest to new heights. As seen below, DC Universe Daily posted the image of Sklenar’s response to the fan art, one single emoji—a bat.

All things considered, it sure sounds like if Gunn comes calling when it’s time to cast Batman for The Brave and the Bold, Sklenar would clear his schedule.

While Sklenar has the makings of a great choice to star as the next face in the Batman franchise, Gunn has kept fans on their toes with his comments in recent months. This included high praise for Reacher star Alan Ritchson while speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Gunn said he’s a “big Alan Ritchson fan” during the podcast appearance back in July. To make matters even more confusing, no one can truly have any idea what Gunn is thinking regarding the casting of DC Studios’ next Batman. Unfortunately, that may not change anytime soon either, so buckle up for a long ride.

A 17-year-old has died in a tragic hunting accident after being mistaken for a small animal.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says that someone struck the boy in the back of the head with gunfire during the trip. In a statement, the agency noted that the 17-year-old “was mistaken for a squirrel by a member of his hunting party.”

The incident took place on Saturday around 3 PM local time, as the group sought out squirrels in rural Brighton, Iowa.

The teenager’s name is Carson Ryan, and tributes to his local community poured in after his death. Ryan was recently elected to the homecoming court at his high school, and the upcoming week is homecoming at Washington High.

Community Members Pay Tribute

Memorial services are scheduled and a vigil was held at the school on Sunday evening. The school and its track team issued a statement on Ryan’s passing via social media this week.

“Washington Boy’s Track & Field team asks you keep Carson’s Mom, family, classmates and teammates in your hearts as we navigate the devastating loss of Carson. Our hearts are broken,” said his high school track team. Ryan participated on the Washington High School Demons track team, and other schools in the area sent their condolences.

“Our hearts are with the Washington High School community as they mourn the tragic loss of one of their students,” said the Pekin School District.

“Pekin schools invite all staff and students to wear orange and black on Monday, September 29th as a sign of support Carson Ryan, his family, the Washington School District, and community.”

A GoFundMe has been established to support Ryan’s family, and it has raised more than $50,000 as of Wednesday. The fundraiser described the teen as “a son, friend, and bright light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

“His kindness, humor, and genuine spirit touched countless lives, and his loss leaves an immeasurable void.”

The Investigation Continues

Captain Shawn Meier of the Iowa DNR says that preliminary assessment of Ryan’s death seems to indicate that it was an unfortunate accident. He said the boy got up to move and due to a lower level of visibility, someone in his group shot in his direction as they believed they had seen a squirrel.

“You have the sunlight coming in, shadows will start to creep in, you have other types of movement, whether it be wind, animals moving within the area, and it is important that hunters take that time to look through the area and make sure what they’re seeing is the target they’re going to shoot at,” Meier said while speaking to ABC affiliate KCRG.

“Our fatality numbers have dropped, and part of that is the education,” Meier said.

“But it does happen, and sadly, any incident, once a year, is too many.”

Rest in peace to Carson Ryan. Our condolences are with his family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.

Jane Goodall is a name many grew up hearing. The notable zoologist and anthropologist has died at the age of 91 on October 1, 2025. The Jane Goodall Institute broke the news with her cause of death revealed.

“The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes,” they stated.

“She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States. Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.”

Born on April 3, 1934, in London, England, Goodall’s lifelong dream was to study wildlife and travel to Africa. In 1960, at the age of 26, she travelled to Gombe, Tanzania, to study chimpanzees under the guidance of anthropologist Louis Leakey.

She also earned a PhD in ethology, the study of animal behavior, from the University of Cambridge. 

Goodall’s work studying chimpanzees led to revolutionary discoveries that defined her career. She uncovered their social hierarchies and hunting habits, and broke with tradition by naming individual chimps rather than numbering them. 

In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute, devoted to the conservation and protection of great apes, and established the Roots & Shoots youth program. She also wrote multiple books, was the subject of documentaries, and was honored with damehood by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004.

Goodall is survived by her son, Hugo Eric Louis van Lawick, born in 1967, whom she had with her first husband, Dutch wildlife photographer Hugo van Lawick. She and Lawick divorced in 1974, with her later marrying Derek Bryceson in 1975 until his death from cancer in 1980. Bryceson was a Tanzanian member of parliament and director of the Tanzanian national parks.
