‘The Naked Gun’ Rotten Tomatoes Scores, Reviews Are In
The day is finally here for fans of The Naked Gun series who have been looking forward to the new movie starring Liam Neeson, which drops Friday.
Over 30 years after Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult was released, the series continues with Neeson playing Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the late Leslie Nielsen’s character from the original films, Frank Drebin.
The early returns on Rotten Tomatoes are very promising, but as is the case with every movie, not everyone loved it.
As of Friday morning, The Naked Gun is registering a 90% approval rating from critics overall and an 86% score from audiences, who collectively give the film 4.2 stars out of 5.
Both of those scores top the original, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, which garnered scores of 88% and 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.
“With Liam Neeson’s gravelly gravitas proving to be a perfect fit for Frank Drebin’s deadpan buffoonery, The Naked Gun revives the original trilogy’s daffy sense of humor like it never went out of style,” the critics consensus from Rotten Tomatoes says.

“Reviving a cult classic like The Naked Gun is a bit like bringing slapstick to a funeral — gutsy, awkward, and when done right, oddly cathartic,” Troy Ribeiro of The Free Press Journal, who gave the film a 3 out of 5, explained.
“Director Akiva Schaffer attempts just that, blending puns, parodies, and pop culture into a screwball cocktail that lands more as a cheeky tribute than a riotous reboot,” Ribeiro adds.
A 4 out of 5 review from Fico Cangiano of CineXpress calls The Naked Gun, “easily the best comedy of the year” and notes that it’s a “legacy sequel done right.”
“Exceeded expectations!” one audience review, which gave the movie 5 out of 5 stars, said. “Great movie and laughed the whole way through.
A one-star review thinks Neeson “felt out of place in this role” and the film was “trying way too hard to be funny.”
Neeson, who isn’t known for his comedic acting, is trying the impossible in attempting to even come close to living up to the legendary role played by Nielsen, who became iconic in the first three movies.
Fans of the series are dying to see if Neeson can pull it off. They’ll get their chance to find out first hand on Friday.

Pick Your Seat on Southwest Airlines: How To Work Around the Assigned Seating Policy

Southwest Airlines recently announced the end of its open seating policy. Assigned seats are the policy now, beginning with travel booked now for Jan. 27, 2026, and beyond will feature assigned seating. But there’s still a way you can pick your seat.
I’m someone who always pays extra to choose where I sit on a plane. Upon learning of Southwest’s updated seating policy, I immediately began researching how to avoid getting randomly assigned where I sit (hello, extra leg room). CNBC had the answers.
For starters, booking anything but basic fare will get you one step closer to picking your seat. Because when you book a basic fare, you get a seat assigned at check-in.
Opt for Southwest’s Choice, Choice Preferred, or Choice Extra Fares instead. These ticket options let you pick your seat when you book and give you the option of preferred or extra legroom, depending on the tier you purchase.
You can also open a Southwest Credit Card. Any Southwest-branded credit card unlocks access to seat selection, even on cheaper fares. The more premium card you sign up for, the more options you have. Premium cards like the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority or Performance Business Credit Card offer unlimited upgrades to extra legroom seats within 48 hours of departure, when available.
The third way to avoid the new assigned seating policy at Southwest Airlines is to achieve A-List or A-List Preferred Status. If you fly 20 qualifying one-way flights or earn 35,000 tier qualifying points1 in one calendar year, you get priority boarding, your first checked bag free, and your choice of preferred or standard seating.
Of course, you can always hope for the best and book early, then check in promptly 24 hours before your flight departs. Boarding order won’t be as critical with assigned seating, but early booking may give you more choice and flexibility before seats fill up.
With the classic “first-come, first-sit” era coming to a close, it pays to have a branded credit card or elite status when booking a flight.

Liam Neeson Cracks Pedro Pascal Joke at Early Screening of ‘The Naked Gun’
Liam Neeson, the star of The Naked Gun reboot that is hitting theaters on Friday, made a surprise appearance at an early screening of the movie and had some jokes, including one involving fellow actor Pedro Pascal.
According to video from entertainment reporter Jonathan Sim, the early screening was in New York City and Neeson had a little spoiler alert for those set to take the flick in.
Neeson warned fans of some popular themes that aren’t in the movie and joked that this is one film that Pascal actually isn’t in.
“Spoiler alert: there’s no zombies, no superheroes, and Pedro Pascal isn’t in this movie,” Neeson joked.

The Pascal reference is downright hilarious with the running joke on the internet about him seemingly being in every movie lately, which has led some to develop Pedro Pascal fatigue.
Well played, Liam, well played.
In the movie, Neeson plays the role of Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Frank Drebin, the character played by Leslie Nielsen in the three original films that came out in 1988, 1991 and 1994, respectively.
Alongside co-star Pamela Anderson, Neeson has no small task in trying to fill Nielsen’s legendary shoes in a lead role the late comedic actor nailed and became iconic for.

“Liam is probably the only actor alive who in the 21st century could play Frank Drebin,” producer Seth MacFarlane told Timothy Bella of the New York Times.
The Taken star isn’t known for his comedic acting, but so far, it looks like Neeson might be pulling it off.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, The Naked Gun is enjoying an early 90% critics (Tomatometer) score after over 150 reviews and an 86% audience (Popcornmeter) score with over 100 verified ratings and is receiving 4.2 out of 5 stars overall.

“With Liam Neeson’s gravelly gravitas proving to be a perfect fit for Frank Drebin’s deadpan buffoonery, The Naked Gun revives the original trilogy’s daffy sense of humor like it never went out of style,” the critics consensus on the website reads.
To compare, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, which is widely considered the best film of the original trilogy, garnered an 88% critics score and 84% audience score.
Directed and written by Akiva Schaffer, and co-written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, The Naked Gun is rated PG-13 and has a runtime of an hour and 25 minutes.

Beloved ‘80s Movie Franchise ‘Gremlins’ Moves 1 Step Closer to Another Sequel
A long-awaited third installment of the Gremlins franchise appears to be in the works. During an appearance at Comic-Con Manchester, Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch star Zach Galligan teased an update on a threequel 35 years after the sequel hit theaters.
“After 35 years, they’ve come up with a script,” Galligan, 61, told fans at the convention, as seen on Comic Movie DB’s TikTok. “Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it, apparently. It’s waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and approve it,” Galligan added.
The actor noted that fans can “thank the success” of last year’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel for getting Warner Bros. attention for Gremlins 3.
The first two Gremlins movies, which came out in 1984 and 1990, respectively, were executive-produced by Steven Spielberg and produced by Joe Dante. The comedy-horror franchise starred Galligan and Phoebe Cates as Billy and Kate, caretakers of a mysterious “mogwai” creature who ends up multiplying into a gang of gremlins that wreak havoc on the town.
In 2021, Galligan reprised his role as Billy in a commercial for Mountain Dew Zero Sugar. Earlier this month, Galligan addressed fans on Instagram Live and revealed that Spielberg was the EP on the Mountain Dew Zero Sugar commercial
Galligan also shared that he began hearing buzz about the possibility of Gremlins 3 in January but dismissed it because in 2017, screenwriter Chris Columbus had written a Gremlins 3 script “and nothing had come of it.”
But earlier this year, Galligan got a call from someone who’s “pretty knowledgeable” in the business who told him Columbus confirmed that rumors were true about both Gremlins 3 and Goonies 2.
“Why now? “ Galligan said to fans. “Want to know why there’s also this interest? Two words: Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. That is why Goonies 2 and Gremlins 3 are happening. A property that hadn’t been touched in 34 years made 400 million dollars.”
Galligan added that the key is to bring back the original cast members and producers. “The nostalgia factor will be so big that it will just carry the day,” he said.

While there has been no official announcement for Gremlins 3, Galligan noted that when production for Gremlins 2 started in 1989, he and Phoebe Cates were the last two called, getting just 12 weeks’ notice to star in the film.
While Galligan certainly seems game for Gremlins 3, there’s no word on Cates’ interest. She retired from acting in the mid-1990s.
