Wealthy Executive & Family Killed in Plane Crash

A tragic plane crash in Ohio claimed the lives of six people over the weekend, including a wealthy steel executive and his family.

The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. Sunday morning when a Cessna 441 twin-engine went down shortly after taking off from Youngstown Regional Airport. The plane crashed in the backyard of a home in a “heavily wooded area” about two miles west of the airport, according to WFMJ.

Aboard the aircraft were James “Jim” Weller, 67, owner and CEO of Liberty Steel Industries Inc, his wife Veronica, 68; their son John, 36; and daughter-in-law Maria, 34. The group was heading to Bozeman, Montana.

Weller and his family were also fixtures in the Sharon Speedway community, per The Times Leader. Sharon Speedway mourned their deaths in a statement released online.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of James (Jim) Weller, Jr., his wife Veronica, along with their son John and his wife Maria on Sunday,” the statement reads. “James won 36 times in the Big Block Modified division at Sharon Speedway and was a two-time track champion. His late father, Jim Weller Sr. co-owned Sharon Speedway from 2002-2024.”

Pilot Joseph Maxin, 63, and his 55-year-old co-pilot Timothy Blake also died. Following the accident, officials called the two men “the best of the best” in their field.

“I can’t think of better people,” said Anthony Trevena, executive director of the Western Reserve Port Authority. “So our community is at a great loss, and these were really wonderful people. It’s a very tight-knit community, so all those in the aviation community have reached out. These are really important people to us, so we’re grateful for the support of our community.”

The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are currently investigating the crash.

Major Turkish Airport Closes, Impacts Tourists

Over the past few years, the Izmir region of Turkey has become a major tourist hotspot, welcoming millions of foreign travelers every year with its Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport emerging as a major travel hub in the area. However, a recent natural disaster has caused all kinds of delays, even resulting in the airport closing.

A fire which broke out on the borders of Menderes and Seferihisar districts of Izmir have spread quickly, due to strong winds in the region, as a result, 50,000 people have been forced to evacuate.

In addition to the evacuation, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport was temporarily closed as a result of the fires.

While it resumed operations a few hours later, it caused some significant issues for travelers in the region, many of whom were tourists.

“Due to the forest fire in Izmir’s Gaziemir district and adverse weather conditions, including strong winds, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport was temporarily closed to air traffic as of 16:00 local time,” the airport wrote in a statement this week.

“Some incoming flights were diverted to alternate airports during the closure.

“Following the NOTAM [meaning notice to airmen], the runway has reopened and the first flight, PC 1864 to Ercan, has successfully departed at 21:50 local time. Flight operations are gradually returning to normal.”

Turkey Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan has issued an urgent warning as the wildfires continue to spread.

“I extend my heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to all citizens affected and harmed by the fires. Almost all forest fires are, unfortunately, caused by human activity,” he wrote in a statement via The Mirror.

“While our state is, of course, taking all necessary measures, I want to remind everyone that the most important thing is to prevent fires from starting in the first place. For the next two months, I urge all citizens to exercise the utmost care in protecting our Green Homeland.”

The Turkish government continues to provide updates on the devastating fire.

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Rotten Tomatoes Score Makes It the 4th Best in the Franchise

Unlike franchises like James Bond or Star Trek, where there is some debate about the best installment, the Jurassic franchise is fairly unique insofar as the first movie is considered the absolute best, while everything after that is basically a race to the bottom. While we all love returning to the world of cloned dinosaurs running amok, even the most forgiving moviegoer probably agrees that after the 1993 classic, these ancient reptiles have been trying to claw their way back to relevance, basically since the first sequel, The Lost World, in 1997.

But, with the return of original screenwriter David Koepp, and director Gareth Edward (Rogue One, Godzilla) at the helm, there’s some hope that the new film, Jurassic World Rebirth, will recapture the magic. Starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, Rebirth is poised to be the go-to summer blockbuster of this year’s Fourth of July weekend. And, it seems that the reviews are…mixed.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, as of Tuesday, July 1 — one day before the movie hits theaters — Jurassic World Rebirth is sitting at a 54 percent score, which is the result of 99 reviews. The audience score won’t exist until after the movie’s been in theaters for a few days, but, historically, and with one exception, the audience score and critical scores of most Jurassic movies tend to align. However, 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, which has a 29 percent score on RT and is considered the worst film in the franchise by that metric, also has an audience score of 77 percent.

If we look at the Rotten Tomatoes ranking of the previous six Jurassic films, this would put Rebirth fourth overall, behind The Lost Word: Jurassic Park, which has a 56 percent, but ahead of Jurassic Park III, which as a score of 49. The top two films in this ranking are the 1993 original film, Jurassic Park, with a score of 91, and 2015’s soft reboot, Jurassic World, with a score of 72.

Again, the fact that there is such a steep drop between what is considered the best and the second-best Jurassic movies is notable, and kind of hilarious. If Rebirth hangs onto its mid-50s score, it will likely go down in history as being no better or no worse than the majority of the other sequels.

The most interesting thing to see happen now is whether or not the critical score goes up, or down, and whether or not audiences believe the critics at all. After all, when it comes to killer dinosaurs, you’ve got to trust your gut.

Jurassic World Rebirth is out in theaters everywhere on July 2.

Urgent Recall Hits Popular Daily Drug Over Risk It May Not Work

Health officials have issued an urgent recall of a widely used breast cancer prevention drug over concerns it may not properly dissolve in the body, jeopardizing its effectiveness for the hundreds of thousands who depend on it.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the U.K. flagged one batch of Tamoxifen 20mg tablets, manufactured by Wockhardt UK Limited, after the pills failed a standard dissolution test.

That test determines whether a drug will break down correctly in the digestive system and release its active ingredient into the bloodstream. If it doesn’t, the drug may not work as intended.

The impacted batch—HZ10030 with an expiration date of April 30, 2027—is being recalled at the pharmacy and wholesaler level as a precaution.

Tamoxifen is a daily oral medication used by around 550,000 British breast cancer survivors to lower their risk of recurrence by up to 45 percent. It’s also prescribed to women with a strong family history of the disease to reduce their odds of developing it.

So far, no injuries or adverse reactions have been reported. The MHRA emphasized that patients should continue taking their medication unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.

In the U.S., the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved tamoxifen in 1998, and it is one of the most widely used breast cancer drugs, according to the Cleveland Clinic. This recall does not include U.S. drugs, currently.

While only one batch is affected, the recall is a reminder of how crucial quality control is when it comes to long-term medications. A drug’s ability to dissolve properly is key to ensuring it delivers therapeutic benefits. If that process fails, even without visible signs, the consequences could be serious, especially for those taking Tamoxifen as a preventive measure.

Dissolution testing is a routine part of drug evaluation and helps predict how medications will perform inside the body. The MHRA said it will continue monitoring the situation and expects the manufacturer to address the failure through corrective measures.

Study Names Highest Rated Fast Food Restaurant in U.S.

When it comes to choosing a favorite fast food restaurant, there are a lot of factors to consider. The menu is arguably the most important, as a restaurant is only as good as the food it serves to customers. Service is another important aspect, as most visitors to fast food restaurants are looking to get in and out as quickly as possible.

With those important factors in mind, a new poll shows which restaurant fans voted as the top option in the United States.

A poll for crypto exchange site ChicksX looked through over seven million reviews on TripAdvisor, encompassing over 240 restaurant brands.

Andy’s Frozen Custard, which has 85 locations in 14 states, earned the top spot. Great Harvest Bread Company came in second, while fondue restaurant The Melting Pot came in third.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, several major chains with nationwide footprints were considered the worst based on customer service evaluations. KFC took the bottom spot, followed by McDonalds, Burger King, Church’s and Long John Silver’s in the final five.

The chicken restaurant received the lowest customer service score of any restaurant considered in the poll – a 2.89 out of a possible five.

One reviewer of a KFC location in Midtown Manhattan that has since closed said that visiting the location was “one of the few disappointments of my New York holiday.”

“The food was so nasty. It was dry. They took too long to take my order … some of the machines aren’t even working,” one reviewer said about a McDonald’s location on Broadway in New York City.

“It took 15 minutes before we received our order and the burgers were all covered with ketchup. Don’t waste your money here,” another reviewer warned, referring to a nearby Burger King.

Major chains were well-represented within the bottom ten, as restaurants like Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Pizza Hut all made the list. Mediterranean specialty restaurant Cava was the highest-ranked fast-food establishment in New York City, earning a score of 4.55 out of five.

Restaurants needed at least 150 reviews on TripAdvisor in order to be eligible for the list.

Jake Paul Threatens Legal Action Against Piers Morgan, Other ‘Pigs’

YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul is not messing around when it comes to the most ardent critics of his boxing career.

Paul has taken flak in recent years over the opponents he has chosen to take on in the boxing ring during his career, which has led to questions about his credibility in the sport.

And that didn’t stop after his latest bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. over the weekend that led to Paul’s 12th victory, coming via unanimous decision.

The bout drew the ire of boxing fans and analysts before it even started thanks to Chavez’s age (he’s 11 years older than Paul) and his lack of success in the sport over the past decade-plus.

After the fight, Paul’s detractors were critical of how inactive Chavez Jr. was for much of the fight, with some even going as far as to say the boxing match was rigged.

One of Paul’s critics, Piers Morgan, took to X to call the Paul-Chavez fight an “unwatchable farce” and claimed that the fight was “staged.”

“I had a better fight with Jake Paul on Thursday than the unwatchable farce that took place tonight,” Morgan said. “The guy’s lining his pockets with buckets of (money)  but he’s killing boxing with this boring staged [expletive] against older fighters way past their prime.”

The “better fight with Jake Paul” Morgan mentions is a reference to his contentious interview with Paul before the fight that led to Paul exiting before it was over.

In the wake of Morgan’s post, Nakisa Bidarian, the CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, which was established by Paul in 2021, called the talk show host’s claims “baseless and irresponsible” and charged Morgan with making a “defamatory” comment that could lead to “legal action.”

Paul then doubled-down on that statement.

“After years of letting it slide as just ‘haters being haters,’ I have asked my team to vigorously go after anyone who makes up lies about my boxing career. Expect to get served you pigs,” Paul wrote on X.

With his victory over Chavez on Saturday night, Paul improved to 12-1 and is now ranked No. 14 by the WBA in the cruiserweight world rankings.

That means Paul could fight for a world title at some point down the road.

WNBA Players Made It Very Clear How They Feel About Caitlin Clark

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is going to the WNBA All-Star Game for the second year in a row, but not because of her peers.

Clark received the most fan votes for the game, a record-setting 1,293,536 tallies. That number earned her the role of captain for this month’s midseason showcase, which will take place in Indianapolis.

However, when the results of the WNBA player voting were released on Monday, Clark only came in ninth in the league for guards. Allisha Gray, Sabrina Ionescu, Skylar Diggins, Paige Bueckers and Natasha Cloud were the top five guard vote-getters, and Clark’s own teammate Kelsey Mitchell finished ahead of her in sixth.

Clark performed better in the media voting, finishing third for guards behind Gray and Ionescu. She and teammate Aliyah Boston were both named All-Star starters.

It’s not totally shocking that Clark’s standing among fellow players would lag behind the fan voting, given how immensely popular she is with the general public. Also, Clark has missed seven of the Fever’s first 16 games with injuries and while she’s averaging 18.2 points and 8.9 assists, she’s also struggling with turnovers (a league-high 5.9 per game) and is shooting 29.5% from three-point range.

Still, voting her as the ninth-best guard in the league seems too low. Clark is still the Fever’s best player, and opposing teams treat her as such with the way they approach her from a defensive game-planning perspective.

She also has turned in a number of sensational performances this season, including a triple-double in the opening game against the Chicago Sky, a 32-point, nine-assist, eight-rebound performance in a win over the defending champion New York Liberty and 27 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to the Atlanta Dream.

The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game is set for is July 18.
