Everyone has their go-to denim style or better yet, that one pair of jeans they wear nearly every day of the week. No matter how much you love said pair of jeans, come the fall and winter season, it’s easy to get sick of them since you’re likely wearing them with everything from sweaters to puffers and back again. This season, however, instead of letting your denim fatigue get the best of you, try out a pair of printed jeans because according to the world of Instagram and every major retailer, they are trending hardcore. 

Click into Shopbop, Net-a-Porter, or Nordstrom, and you’ll see tons of printed denim styles gracing page after page. Brands like Eckhaus Latta and Ganni are leading the space with fresh-feeling pairs covered in tie-dye splotches and mismatched animal prints. If you want to take the more traditional route, leopard print or polka-dot styles should be your go-to as they will pair just as seamlessly with the rest of your wardrobe as any plain pair of jeans would, trust me. With the addition of even just a couple of pairs of cute printed jeans in your wardrobe, you will feel like your breadth of fall outfit ideas expanded tenfold.

After spotting fall’s biggest trends on the runways months back and now seeing them trickle into the new-arrivals sections at my favorite retailers, I couldn’t wait for autumn so that I could test out what’s new in fashion. The runway is a great place to take inspiration from, and I’m always ready to incorporate the latest trends and micro-trends into my wardrobe and put my own spin on them.

Right now, I’m loving pieces that are skewing either minimal or maximal—with everything from tailored shirting and sleek leather trench coats to chunky statement jewelry and bold orange shades topping my list. Here, I’m test-driving eight trends I’m excited about for fall, with outfits that feel true to my personal sense of style. Who What Wear’s market editor Judith Jones covered the color trends of the season and noted that orange will be huge following its presence on the F/W 19 runways. I tend to stick with neutrals over bold shades but discovered that the color was actually easier to pull off than I originally thought—especially when sticking with a classic piece like this tweed jacket.

I’ve been seeing scoop necklines popping up everywhere from Bottega Veneta to Pixie Market and think they’re the workhorse fall staple to wear with just about anything. Here, I paired one with wide-leg shorts, but moving into fall, I’ll be wearing one with everything from trouser-style jeans to leather skirts.

Ankle boots have ruled my closet for years, but more recently, I’ve been collecting knee-high versions to wear with anything from jeans to long skirts and midi dresses. They’re truly a great fall boot style that has proven to be extremely versatile.

I’ve been spotting open-front shirting all over the street style scene at fashion month and wanted to try it out for myself. I love the idea of breathing life into a collared shirt by leaving it unbuttoned from the waist down. I’ll definitely be repeating this in different iterations in the months ahead.

For fall, classic wardrobe staples have been given tweaks that make them feel a bit cooler and more modern than the originals. Here, I tried out suiting with a few twists—an oversize blazer paired with flared, legging-style pants.

Full leather looks instantly read as luxe and will no doubt be one of the most-worn trends this fall. To try it for myself, I invested in this faux leather trench coat from Nanushka (there’s a similar dress version below) to wear with these two-tone H&M boots. 

Big bags have been one of the most talked-about fall trends—and also one of the most controversial. They were spotted everywhere from Jacquemus to Loewe to Maison Margiela and more recently have proven to be popular on the street style scene. While I’m not ready to carry around a giant tote bag, I am embracing bags bigger than the smaller sizes I’ve been wearing for the last few years.

There are some combinations that work together so perfectly you couldn’t imagine one without the other—peanut butter and jelly, Amal and George, and Sundays and brunch, to name but a few. Seriously, where would we be without these perfect pairs? There’s something so sophisticated about a pleated midi skirt worn over a pair of chic knee-high boots that simply works every time. It plays into this season’s bourgeoisie trend perfectly and will unquestionably be your trusty go-to combo for work on those crisp fall mornings. 

There’s no question that the fashion-forward way to wear your blazer this season is cinched at the waist with a belt—a huge trend seen all over the fall 2019 runways. The look adds instant polish to any outfit and also works perfectly with the power duo we just mentioned above.

The soft, sumptuous texture of a knit sweater pairs beautifully with the edgy attitude of luxe leather trousers, culottes, or midi skirts. Contrast the pieces by wearing a beige sweater with black or brown leather bottoms. Opt for high-waisted leather pants that have a roomier, tailored feel (as opposed to skin-tight pants) for a modern look.

If you’re looking to make a sartorial statement this fall, then this color/print pairing is an absolute must. Hot pink has been the unexpected hue of the season among the fashion crowd, and it happens to couple beautifully with lighter shades of snake print (and black-and-white tiger print)—another big trend on the fall 2019 runways. Opt for a vibrant pink blouse and snake-print pants for a fall look that will induce a flow of compliments.

From chunky Chelsea boots to combat styles, thick platform rubber-soled boots are everywhere right now, exuding an edgy punk-rock feel. Combine them with loose-fit minidresses and cool plaid miniskirts.

One of our favorite classic pairings has to be the French girl–loved duo of a longline tweed jacket and slim-leg blue jeans. It’s a failsafe marriage of textures that always works. Wear with chic black heels to take you from day-to-night in style.

If you’re going to invest in one piece of jewelry this fall, make it a gold chain-link necklace. Every cool girl worth her salt is wearing one right now. The easiest way to style it? Over a crisp white crewneck tee—so chic.
