Leggings have become a major staple in women’s wardrobes, workout fiends or not. The designs have gotten more and more polished each year, too, so it’s never been easier to go straight from the studio to the street, with athleisure brands churning out new trends at a quick pace in an effort to meet the ever-changing ready-to-wear fashion market. So, what is trending do far in 2019 as far as legging trends go? We tapped a few experts to find out.

Ahead, read up on the handful of 2019 legging trends athleisure experts from Alo Yoga, Reebok, and Alala are deeming the biggest legging trends of the year. Don’t worry—most of these “trends” are all in the details, meaning the versatility and wearability of each still rings true. Ready to find out which styles everyone from celebs to your next door neighbor are wearing this year?

“Leggings that you can wear from studio to street will continue to be a major trend in 2019. You’ll see more leggings in the popular 7/8 length, which hits just above the ankle and pairs great with sneakers or slides, so many new soft leggings for yoga and lounge in our best-selling Alosoft fabric, forward, breathable mesh paneling on leggings that sculpt and contour, and beautiful new colors and designs that work with each season.” — Alo Alo Design Team

“From a functional standpoint, we are seeing a trend of higher-waisted leggings and use of more compression fabrics to help sculpt the body. From a fashion standpoint, we think neons are going to be very popular in the summer months. I think we’ll also see details taken from runway fashion like feminine ruffles, point d’esprit, and metallic accents.” — Denise Lee, founder and CEO of Alala

“Last year, we saw a lot of mesh in leggings. For 2019, we want to expand our use of empty space by focusing on perforations. These tiny holes add a subtle but stylish detail that gives the design a little something extra, which is a great way to stand out if you want to avoid loud colors or patterns.

“Following the utilitarian trend from last year, consumers can expect the see moto-inspired and varying camo prints in our 2019 leggings.” — Barbara Ebersberger, VP of product, apparel at Reebok

Next up, shop the seven It items fashion girls are wearing right now. 

It’s funny to think of wardrobe basics as being “dated.” Isn’t the fact that they go with everything and never go out of style the whole point? Well, we’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but some basics do, in fact, have a shelf life. Don’t worry—some, like white T-shirts, skinny jeans, and sneakers, are definitely safe. But we couldn’t help but notice recently that others, like crossbody bags, have fallen out of fashion-girl favor. 

To be honest, we were a bit shocked when we realized that some of these basics were fading away, based on their immense popularity up until recently, but the fact of the matter is that people get bored. Yes, many basics are supposed to be “boring,” but we’re human, and maybe there are only so many times that we can Instagram cropped flare jeans before we just get sick of seeing them on ourselves (speaking from personal experience).

Think about it: When was the last time you bought (or wore) a three-quarter-sleeve T-shirt? Exactly. That said, we don’t think this basic is gone for good. But for now, white tank tops have become the coolest basic to wear with jeans.

Cropped flares used to be inescapable, but our very own commerce strategist confirmed that “units sold of cropped flare jeans decreased by 55% [from 2017 to 2018].” On the flip side, it’s become clear that straight-leg jeans are now a classic, and baggy jeans are the must-have denim style of 2019.

When an outfit called for pumps, we all used to reach for the round-toe variety, as there weren’t a whole lot of other options. Luckily, now there are plenty of other more forward options to choose from, and heels are decidedly lower than they were a decade ago.

With this one, chances are crossbody bags became oversaturated and people got tired of not having other handbag options. Enter the return of the shoulder bag. That being said, we think this hands-free bag style will return (perhaps when belt bags lose their luster).

T-shirt dresses may be comfortable, but they can be a bit dull, if we’re putting it frankly. Slip dresses, on the other hand, are much prettier and more versatile, as they can be dressed up or down and layered easily. 

Unless you’re on the festival grounds of Coachella, you may want to retire the super-short cutoffs that have (somewhat surprisingly) been replaced by Bermuda shorts this year. 

Aviators still seem to be a sunglass staple for men, but we’ve found that fashion girls have ditched the once massively popular style. Cat-eye sunglasses, though, are a staple style that shows no sign of slowing down.

Next up, nine trends that have now become fashion-girl basics.

Don’t get me wrong: I like, no, I love Reformation as much as the next girl, but that doesn’t mean we can’t switch it up every once in a while. After all, the more It brands you have on your radar the better—especially for those times when that new Ref top you’ve been eyeing is out of stock in your size and you need to get your hands on a vacation outfit stat—you know?

While it may be hard to believe, there are actually quite a few other brands out there right now that can make a killer dress, cute top, or even summer sandal just as well, and I figured that peak summer would be a good time to share.  Plus, like Reformation, they’re all worth the investment but won’t completely break the bank, either, which I know is a major draw for us all. Formerly a designer for Reformation, Pia Arrobio brought her knack for creating It items to her own brand, LPA, in 2016. If you’re (somehow) not familiar already, prepare to become obsessed. 

Karla Deras’s The Line by K has been on our radar for a while now, but its recent launch on Net-a-Porter has deservedly catapulted the label to a whole new level. We love its figure-flattering take on trendy skirts, tops, and dresses.

Another import from Australia, C/Meo Collective has been putting its own unique twist on everyday and evening-wear for nearly 10 years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Next up? I tried not wearing black for a week—and it was really hard.
