Chrissy Teigen’s family vacation on the Italian Riviera has proven to be a very stylish affair. Her looks for the seaside towns they’ve been visiting are casual but decidedly glamorous (e.g., this gorgeous yellow dress she wore in Portofino). While visiting the town of Porto Venere, Teigen proved that there’s no need to entirely cover up your swimsuit when vacationing near the sea. For a stroll around the town, Teigen took her plunging white one-piece and topped it with a printed maxi-length robe. To make the look even more street-worthy, she added metallic Prada thong sandals, oversize hoops, Fendi sunglasses, and a gold waist belt. 

While you might not want to wear this look on the beach, per se, there’s no denying that it’s fully possible to dress a swimsuit up while on vacation. As perfectly portrayed by David K. Harbour, beleaguered yet heroic Hawkins police chief Jim Hopper has become TV icon. With the premiere on July 4th of Stranger Things season 3, he became a fashion icon as well, thanks to the Netflix hit series’ usual strict attention to period detail.

The uglyass pastel Hawaiian shirt is coming back, we’re pretty sure, and we’ll have Hopper to blame. 

Hopper’s look was partly inspired by Magnum P.I., the classic detective show starring Tom Selleck–which Hopper is seen watching at one point during one episode. 

Amy Parris is the show’s costume designer, and she gave Fashionista the low-down on this particular choice:

“I found a great image of Tom Selleck in the iconic moment of Magnum in the Hawaiian shirt, the light denim Wrangler jeans, a canvas belt and topsider shoes,” explains Parris, put her own twist on that look for Hopper’s night out and added a light beige blazer. “But later he loses [the topsiders] and puts on his work boots that he likes and wears that through the rest of [the season].”

To make five multiples of the shirt, Parris bought the last 20 yards of a vintage ’80s fabric and custom-printed each one in an original pattern designed by the team. (The graphics even needed to be in the exact same location on each shirt for continuity.) “David liked the idea of being able to roll the sleeves of the shirt up, just so it’s a little bit more ’80s feeling,” she adds. 

Social media reactions make it clear fans are into the look.

So… if you’re looking for a “Hot Dad” ensemble to rock, Hopper’s shirt is unfortunately not on sale–yet.

Give it time, though. And if you’ve been through the decade once already and aren’t feeling a thrill about an 80s fashion rebirth, maybe don’t blame David K. Harbour after all; blame Stranger Things.

Free of the constraints of her weighty former role, it seems like Michelle Obama is having more fun with fashion than ever—and we’re more than happy to be along for the ride. Yes, she often still sticks to the tried-and-true silhouettes she wore during her eight-year stint as the first lady, including pantsuits, but she’s experimented with a wider range of looks in the last two years.

Overall, I’ve also noticed her shift from D.C.-approved structured sheath dresses to more flowy silhouettes, no doubt echoing her more laid-back lifestyle. And you can’t possibly ignore the look that set the internet on fire: Michelle Obama’s sparkly, thigh-high Balenciaga boots, which she teamed with an equally eye-catching bright yellow dress. It was the ultimate fashion statement and made us excited about what other surprises she might have up her sleeve.

Attending Essence Fest in New Orleans, Obama wore a shimmering, disco-ready jumpsuit by Sergio Hudson that completely stole the show.

Not that we ever doubted her, but Obama managed to fit right in with Hollywood’s biggest A-listers at the 2019 Grammy Awards in February. Her slouchy Sachin & Babi metallic outfit is in contrast to the business-like suits she wore as the first lady, and we’re totally behind the style evolution.

During her time as first lady, Obama was extremely loyal to a handful of prestigious brands, including Jason Wu and Michael Kors. Lately, we’ve been spotting her in buzzy, Instagram-favorite labels like By Far, which counts It girls Bella Hadid and Jeanne Damas as fans.

Although Obama heavily favored dresses while in the White House, she did wear some strong trouser looks. However, this Givenchy look managed to take the humble work staple to the next level thanks to the extra high waist, which also happens to be fashion editor–approved.

Obama was rarely photographed carrying a bag during her White House days, but when she was, it was an understated, work-ready tote or perhaps a weekender bag if the family was headed on vacation. These days, we’re reveling in her handbag collection, which adds a dose of personality to her looks.
