Tim Kennedy’s Brutal Push-Pull Workout to Empty the Tank

Tim Kennedy has worn many hats. Among the most notable is the Green Beret—he’s an active duty Master Sergeant within the U.S. Army Special Forces. He happens to be a successful MMA fighter, with a decades-long career in the UFC, Strikeforce, and other promotions. And he’s starred in multiple TV shows, including Discovery’s Hard to Kill series.

What do all those jobs have in common? He has to be in great shape to do ’em. As part of our Everyday Warrior series, we recently caught up with Kennedy in the gym to break down his “ABC Workout,” a full-body circuit that’s perfect for building muscle from head to toe.

This workout gets its name from its three parts, labeled “A,” “B,” and “C” (plus a warmup). It’s designed to work the full body with movements that alternate in a push-pull fashion. Spoiler alert: It’s brutal. But would you expect anything less from a guy who served as an active duty special forces warrior and a pro MMA fighter at the same time?

Kennedy walked us through the workout while at the gym. You’ll start off with an EMOM warmup—that’s short for “every minute on the minute.” It’s modeled after a CrossFit Cindy workout, but his version involves repeated sets of toes-to-bar, squats, and pushups done every minute for 10 minutes. Once you’ve got your blood pumping, it’s time to move onto the A section of the workout.

The A section consists of three parts: Hitting the SkiErg, followed by pullups then handstand pushups (that’s right, you’re going upside-down in this workout). You’ll repeat all three segments a total of five times. Together they’ll work your legs, core, posterior chain, lats, rear delts, front delts, and your chest, too.

Then you’ll move on to the B section, and this is where things really get interesting.

“B is the devil,” Kennedy tells Men’s Journal.

This section involves riding an assault bike until you burn 10 calories, then deadlifting your body weight for 10 reps, followed by a set of 10 burpees—and repeating the whole thing five times.

“We kind of have a push-pull here,” says Kennedy. “Bike is full body. Deadlift is posterior chain and legs with a ton of core, and burpees are full body.”

Finally, you’ll round things out with the C portion of the workout, where you’ll burn 10 calories on a rowing machine, then grab a kettlebell to do 10 snatches followed by 10 swings. Like the previous two sections, you’ll repeat all three sets five times. In the process, you’ll work the posterior chain and quads.

Elon Musk Says SpaceX Satellite Internet Now Live In Ukraine

SpaceX founder Elon Musk said that his space exploration company has activated Starlink internet satellites over Ukraine in an effort to improve connectivity issues brought about by the ongoing Russian invasion.

Musk responded swiftly when Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov asked for SpaceX support.

“While you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand,” Fedorov tweeted.

Just 10 hours later, Musk claimed “Starlink is live in Ukraine.” Internet service had been disrupted in several Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv and Kherson, reports Fox Business.

Starlink is a network of nearly 2,000 satellites in low orbit intended to provide high-speed broadbrand internet by connecting with terminals located across the globe. Because it doesn’t require traditional internet infrastructure, it can reach remote areas and be deployed quickly in disaster situations.

SpaceX is consistently puts more Starlink satellites into orbit. The two-stage Falcon 9 completed three Starlink missions in February alone, with the most recent on February 25 delivering 50 satellites, Space.com reports.

News of Starlink’s implementation in Ukraine comes as former boxing boxing champ Vasiliy Lomachenko joined his homeland’s military ranks.

The former three-division champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist was pictured wearing fatigues with a rifle at his side in a viral photo posted to social media.

Inner Peace for Busy Women

Contrary to what we were led to believe, adulting is not doing whatever we want, whenever we want. Instead, we’re constantly responding to our bosses, our families, the news cycle.… And while we deeply wish that finding inner peace was as easy as ordering a new pair of shoes or polishing off a pint of Chunky Monkey, turns out it’s more elusive.

But what if a silent retreat isn’t in the cards? Who among us hasn’t closed her eyes and tried to meditate, only to give up in frustration? If yoga makes you crack up or cringe, what’s a girl gotta do to center herself? 

Bare it All is here to help you find a few moments of Zen without resorting to weird breathing techniques. Read on for eight low-effort ways to clear your mind.

1) Forget “clear your mind.”

A lot of people imagine meditation requires a dark room, total quiet, a yoga mat, glowing votives—the works. But the whole idea is to be able to access peace amid chaos. It’s not even really possible to flip a switch in your brain that turns off negative self-talk and to-do lists, leaving only a blissful vacuum. Instead, think of inner peace in terms of deep concentration, tapping into the infinite reserve of calm that lives just below the daily churn. You can enhance concentration and awareness by focusing your attention on a single thing, like your morning cup of coffee. How does it smell, feel, taste? Seriously, that’s all there is to it. 

2) Just breathe.

It can be ironically stressful to do exaggerated belly breathing or hold your inhalations for a seemingly infinite number of seconds. All you really have to do is breathe with intention, and maybe exhale a little longer than you exhale. Three old fashioned, conscious breaths can be enough to reset you when you’re ready to blow a gasket. Sitting at an endless traffic light? Breathe. Let go of the anger over being late—you are here, and there’s nothing else you could do. No time for such luxuries? Train your brain to merely be aware that you are breathing. What else could possibly matter more?

3) Redefine “meditation.”

Meditation isn’t one monolithic thing reserved for monks and saints. There are loads of ways to do it, and you’ll naturally find some easier than others. Try these highly accessible forms of finding inner peace:

    • Mindful meditation: As if standing behind a waterfall, see a thought run through your mind, notice it, and let it go without judging the thought or getting hung up on it. You’re a witness to, not a product of, your thoughts. 
    • Gratitude meditation: Literally count your blessings. Jot down a quick list of everything you have that you’re grateful for. The longer you keep up the practice, the more you see how much you already have to be thankful for rather than worried about.
    • Focused-attention meditation: Concentrate on something, be it internal (your happy place; a mantra; a goal) or external (a part of the body; a strand of worry beads; ambient noises). The more you practice zeroing in on the thing, the easier it gets.

4) Go with the flow.

Much of what stresses us out is when reality defies expectation. Especially in these polarizing times, the best thing you can do is keep an open mind amid tense interactions. Embrace rather than fight the unknown, and stop reverting to those well-worn thought patterns etched in your brain. By letting go of what you think you know, you come to know new things. Have faith that you’ll emerge on the other side of what’s stressing you out the same way you always have: just fine. 

5) Do less, listen more.

When others tell you their problems, remember that it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to solve them or even take them on. People just want to be heard and acknowledged. If in doubt, take a beat before you rush to do anything. Choosing not to do anything is a valid choice. Saying no is a complete sentence. Turn off the news. Refusing to reflexively react to every single thing coming at you is a great way to take back control over your day, your emotions, your life. 

6) Only connect.

Text or call a friend—bam, meditation. Or get off the screens and spend ten minutes petting your dog or cat. Play a game with your kid, leaving phone in another room. Set a timer if you need to, but be fully present and engaged with someone else and notice how much it recharges your batteries.

7) Start unitasking.

Unavoidable though it feels, multitasking isn’t for everyone. If you suspect you’re among them, give up the constant hustling, which is a recipe for burnout. Deliberately take breaks when you need them (a walk or shower can really help recharge your brain) and accept that not everything on your to-do list is going to get done today…that’s what tomorrow is for!

8) Take comfort.

You already know you’re worthy of love and acceptance, right? Great! Now don’t forget about self-love and self-acceptance. That comes from feeling comfortable in your own skin: When you feel at ease, you project ease. Believe it or not, we see time and time again how that starts at the bra level. If you’re in ill-fitting unders, your mood subconsciously follows suit. Why start the day with a thorn in your side if you don’t have to? That’s what our Bra Fit Experts are here for. Steven Spielberg Is Bringing Back Steve McQueen’s Iconic Character Frank Bullitt For New Movie

Steven Spielberg is making a new movie about Frank Bullitt, the suave San Francisco cop played by Steve McQueen in the classic 1968 thriller Bullitt, which famously features one of the greatest car chases in cinematic history.

Variety reports that Spotlight scribe Josh Singer is set to write the screenplay, while McQueen’s son Chad McQueen and granddaughter Molly McQueen are executive producing “after a lengthy negotiation process with the McQueen estate to secure the rights to the character.”

Warner Bros., which released the original 1968 Bullitt, will be the studio for Spielberg’s new film, which is “not a remake, but an original story about the character,” arguably McQueen’s most iconic role.

Bullitt, based on the 1963 novel Mute Witness, follows Bullitt’s investigation into the death of a mob informant that he was supposed to protect.

Directed by Peter Yates (Breaking Away), Bullitt features one of the most memorable car chases in movie history (see above) with McQueen famously doing all of his own driving in a modified Ford Mustang.

‘Euphoria’ Star Sydney Sweeney Shares Video Showcasing MMA Skills

Sydney Sweeney showed off her boxing and MMA skills on Instagram ahead of Euphoria’s season two finale on HBO Sunday night.

The bombshell actress, last seen restomodding a classic Ford Bronco on TikTok, shared a compilation video of herself training with her coach. ”Missed this,” Sweeney, 24, captioned her post.

Back in 2018, Sweeney told Marie Claire that she’s been practicing MMA since she was 14 and took part in her first competition at 18, reports HypeBae.

“It was a grappling competition against all guys a weight category above me, and I got first place,” she said. “Those guys were probably saying, ‘Oh, we didn’t want to hurt her,’ but they were definitely trying. Everyone broke a sweat!”

Last year, Sweeney said on the The Kelly Clarkson Show that she hasn’t been able to train properly due to her high-profile acting career. “Unfortunately, you sign a little piece of paper that says you’re not to do X, Y, and Z and I am all of X, Y, and Z,” she explained.
