Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo Fight, Spark Brawl Between Lakers and Rockets

Carmelo Anthony and Eric Gordon of the Houston Rockets restrain Brandon Ingram of the LA Lakers.

Pro basketball is the only sport where a guy considered reasonably tall in everyday life—6’3″-6’4″—might be on the short side compared to teammates. Even 6’6″ is kind of modest.

The idea of men that huge fighting at all is a little intimidating. Guys that big getting into a brawl is another level all together. In the Los Angeles Lakers-Houston Rockets matchup Saturday, fists flew and the court came close to exploding with a lot of big man power and rage. There was even a surprising guest appearance from a rock star noted for his inability to sing about anything unrelated to California.

As it was, the game was a disappointment. James Harden led the Rockets to a 124-115 victory, putting a damper on the excitement of LeBron James’ LA debut. It might be to James’ advantage, however, that the most memorable thing was the moment in the fourth quarter when a fight broke out involving Lakers Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo and Rockets point guard Chris Paul.

The score was tightening and Ingram fouled Harden, then pushed him. Things took off from there. A simultaneous heated exchange between Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo popped off and boom, everyone hit the floor.

Paul later said Rondo spit on him, which would be enough to start a fight anywhere, but good luck finding video evidence Rondo did it.

Watching the videos, one thing was clear: King James wasn’t about to get involved. He got in the middle of it solely to settle things, handling teammates and players on the other side with equal sportsmanship.

Long story short, Chris Paul, Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo were ejected and might face suspensions as well.

The internet loves any kind of pro sports brawl, especially when the sport in question isn’t necessarily violent by nature, like baseball or basketball. People don’t go to hockey games expecting peace, love, and cocoa puffs, and football is, by definition, about everyone crashing into each other for 2-3 hours.

But at least one celebrity attendee, Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis, had such a big problem with the violence he seemed ready to jump in the fray. So he was ejected as well.

It should come as no surprise that Twitter had fun with all this.

Jonah Hill Opens Up About Weight Changes in New Interview

Jonah Hill’s directorial debut, a coming-of-age skateboard movie he wrote titled Mid90s, is garnering praise from critics.

In an honest new interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actor revealed how the film reflects his personal journey—particularly with regard to his fluctuating weight.

“I became famous in my late teens and then spent most of my young adult life listening to people say that I was fat and gross and unattractive,” Hill told DeGeneres.

“And it’s only in the last four years writing and directing my movie, Mid90s, that I’ve started to understand how much that hurt and got into my head.”

Hill read words that were written in Inner Children, a self-published magazine he released in conjunction with the premiere of Mid90s that features interviews with Eddie Falco, Michael Cera and his sister, Lady Bird star Beanie Feldstein.

“I really believe everyone has a snapshot of themselves from a time when they were young that they’re ashamed of,” Hill continued.

“For me, it’s that 14-year-old overweight and unattractive kid who felt ugly to the world, who listened to hip-hop and who wanted so badly to be accepted by this community of skaters.”

Hill added that he hasn’t fully come into his own until now.

“It took a long time ― honestly, until right now ― for me to come out as the person, artist, mind, what I represent, how I feel, how I’d like to be spoken to, how I speak to the world in a way that actually represents who I am as a person as opposed to me trying to be something else that I’m not. I’m under construction like we all are.”

Keep doing you, Jonah

Your Table Salt is Loaded with Plastic, Study Finds

According to a new study published in the scientific journal Environmental Science & Technology, most of the world’s normal table salt contains actual plastic in it. Everyone is sprinkling literal plastic on their food.

In the study, researchers tested 39 brands of salt from around the world, and found microplastic in 36. That translates to 92 percent.

Let me reiterate: 92 percent of the world’s salt contains plastic. Sprinkle it on your noodles then use it to patch a beach ball. Anyway, everyone, including Salt Bae, is using salty plastic to flavor their food. Maybe we should rename him Plastic Bae.

Some of the brands didn’t have much plastic in them, with around 28 pieces of microplastic per kilogram, while some contained as much as 13,000 pieces of microplastic per kilogram.

The highest concentrations were found in sea salt, whereas lake and rock salt contained lower amounts, and the highest levels of plastic were found in Asian brands — with Indonesian salts containing the absolute highest concentrations.

The reason for salt containing microplastic? Plastic pollution from single-use plastic products, which we’re clearly obsessed with.

“Recent studies have found plastics in seafood, wildlife, tap water, and now in salt,” says Mikyoung Kim, a campaigner for Greenpeace East Asia and collaborator on the study, in a press release

“It’s clear that there is no escape from this plastics crisis, especially as it continues to leak into our waterways and oceans.”

I, for one, would rather not consume plastic. Let’s all live by the age-old saying: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Though it’s probably not doing much to save the planet at this point.

5 Sneakers I Always Get Compliments On

Let me start this out by saying I am definitely not a sneaker girl. Ask any of my friends or family if I wear sneakers regularly, and they will tell you I prefer heeled booties or strappy sandals. That statement is definitely still true, but after discovering the five sneakers below, I was convinced that incorporating this shoe style into my wardrobe a little more often wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

I want to warn you that when I wear sneakers, I definitely wear them to make more of a statement than I do for comfort, but it’s the comfort and the style that I love the most. Ahead you’ll see my top five all-time favorite sneakers that just so happen to bring in all the compliments. I’m talking strangers-on-the-street type of compliments, not just your best friend (but those are nice too). In addition to shopping the sneakers that give me the most love, check out the sneakers currently on my wish list—the wish list of a non–sneaker girl who still loves sneakers.

Everything from the ombré laces to the matching pink soles makes these sneakers instant standouts.
I definitely get weird glares when I wear these, usually followed by a “Your sneakers are so cool—where did you get them?” You do the math.
I love these Vans because they are a nod to the classic slip-on style we’ve all had since grade school but offer that unique edge. Everyone does a double take when they see the two-tone checks.
These aren’t just your average white sneakers—they are Reebok classics. For shoes that have been around since the ’80s, it’s truly amazing how relevant they still are.
I was hesitant to buy these rose gold Air Maxes, but once I put them on, that feeling quickly went away. Not only are these sneakers extremely comfortable, but they go with just about everything despite the standout color.

The Underwear I Recommend to All My A-List Clients

When she’s not working with big names like Lupita Nyong’o, Jennifer Hudson, and Hilary Swank or acting in her capacity as official Armi Captain at luxury rental and styling platform Armarium, celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger divulges her fashion expertise in our Ask a Stylist column. From the best places to source vintage to the secret to finding your most flattering jeans, come back each week for a professional’s perspective.

While my job depends on dressing celebrities in beautiful gowns for the red carpet and outfits that make them feel confident and comfortable for press tours, put the glamour aside, and the dressing process really starts with the items you put on first: your underwear. When it comes to undergarments, I swear by three brands. The first is Commando, which has the best seamless thongs and boy-short options. My styling kit is always stocked with backup pairs for my clients just in case.

I also always have Spanx on hand. My favorite styles are Haute Contour Shaper (you see what they did there?) and the Simplicity Shaper; both are made out of power mesh, and the material is truly amazing. The last undergarment brand I’m always recommending is Maidenform, which I look to for everyday bras. Their T-shirt bras are so comfortable and seamless that you really can’t go wrong. Take a note from my styling kit and stock your lingerie drawer with my picks from each stylist-approved brand below.
