Take one look at the 2019 Audi R8, and you can practically hear it screaming down a Grand Touring track.
That’s because the newest model of the German automotive giant’s longtime performance roadster borrows its looks from Audi’s R8 race cars in the GT3 and GT4 classes—particularly with regard to its beefier grill and more serious splitter.
New exhaust pipes and redesigned grills are also present in the rear. Customization options in the form of three different exterior trim packages and two new paint colors (Kemora Gray and Ascari Blue) can really help buyers make it their own. And we haven’t even gotten to performance specs.
That’s partially because Audi has promised that R8 is “even more powerful and faster” without releasing specific details power, acceleration and top speed.
The automaker gives no horsepower ratings, only saying that the V-10 engine can be had in two different outputs.
The 2018 R8 is available in V10 and V10 Plus guises, with the regular car putting out 532 horsepower and the V10 Plus making 602 horses.
Audi didn’t just give the R8 more aggressive styling and promise to squeeze more horses out of its naturally-aspirated V10 engine.
A modified suspension will supposedly offer “more stability and precision,” and both the power steering and optional dynamic steering systems have been tweaked to give the driver more feedback and response.
New Dry, Wet and Snow driving modes have been added to the Drive Select system, making the R8 even more feasible as an every day driver.
Considering the 2018 R8 is priced at $140,000, expect to pay at least that to get the newest model when it arrives stateside at a yet-announced date.
Until then, get a closer look at the 2019 Audi R8 in the gallery above.
Apple‘s iPhones and the Samsung Galaxy line are subject to constant comparisons like the detailed one in the video below. They have a lot in common, form and function-wise.
And according to Italy’s competition authority, the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) they also have some sneaky practices in common, including slowing older phones, likely to sell new ones.
As a result, the AGCM has levied millions of dollars in fines against both companies for violating consumer codes with those sketchy moves.
The AGCM is levying a €5 million fine ($5.7 million) against Apple for problems that occurred on various models of the iPhone 6 when users installed iOS 10, which was developed for the iPhone 7.
Because the new iOS required greater energy demands, those using it on older iPhones experienced unexpected shutdowns. The company’s fix, which came as an update in 10.2.1, was released without warning customers that it would throttle CPUs on older devices with aging batteries in order to prevent the occurrences of these random shutdowns.
Apple is also being hit with a second €5 million fine for not giving customers information about their devices’ batteries, such as average lifespan and the procedures for how to maintain and replace them.
Apple problems of any kind are always high-profile, so naturally Samsung’s issue didn’t get much press, even though it infuriated Galaxy 4 owners in particular.
They discovered upon installing Android’s Marshmallow 6.0.1 OS update that their phones suddenly just didn’t work as well anymore. For some this led to the need for costly repairs, because the older phone was no longer under warranty.
The AGCM dinged Samsung for not informing consumers about the problem. The organization declared that along with Apple, the Korean smart phone giant churned out OS updates which led to “serious dysfunctions and reduced performance significantly, thereby accelerating the process of replacing them.”
These European penalties come after Apple copped to slowing older phones in a letter to customers in late 2017, an admission that prompted at least one lawsuit so ridiculously huge there was no way it would ever make it through the courts.
In their continual efforts to sell more expensive, more tricked-out phones, it seems certain neither Samsung nor Apple will ever try anything cagey or sneak again.
Just kidding. Even for some of the massively wealthy companies in the world, there are always a few corners they can cut.
The undefeated UFC star met with the Russian Boxing Federation to discuss the prospect of hosting what would be a lucrative crossover fight at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
“A meeting with the Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation Umar Kremlev was held today,” wrote in an Instagram post. “We discussed the fight with Mayweather.”
“The Eagle” added that he and the RBF believe that the spectacle could draw an audience of 100,000 and set a broadcasting record.
“We want the fight to take place in Moscow at the legendary Luzhniki arena,” Nurmagomedov said. “They are sure that we will gather 100,000 spectators, and also set a world record for the sale of paid broadcasts.”
Mayweather, who secured an unprecedented 50-0 record after stopping Conor McGregor in their 2017 megabout, says he’s game to come out of retirement to fight the Dagestani wrestling specialist.
As Business Insider notes, Nurmagomedov vs. Mayweather is far from a done deal. The former refuses to set foot in Vegas because the Nevada State Athletic Commission is withholding his $2 million purse from UFC 229 due to his role in the post-fight fracas.
“No Vegas,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram.”They won’t pay my money.”
If it does indeed get made, Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, says he can drop “Money” with one punch.
“I know it’s a different sport, but Khabib knocked Conor down and Floyd couldn’t,” Abdelaziz said in the above interview with ESPN’s Brent Okamato.
“And all it’s going to take is one punch, and I think Khabib can drop Floyd.”
McGregor would likely disagree with Abdelaziz. In a round-by-round analysis of his loss to Nurmagomedov, the Irishman conceded that he got caught with the game-changing punch because he didn’t train to defend against strikes.
“Round 2 he is running away around the cage before being blessed with a right hand that changed the course of the round, and the fight,” McGregor wrote. “It was a nice shot.”
“If I stay switched on and give his stand up even a little more respect, that right hand never gets close and we are talking completely different now. I gave his upright fighting no respect in preparation.”
It’s worth mentioning that Nurmagomedov cracking a striker in a cage fight is very different from landing on Mayweather, who is widely regarded as one of the best defensive boxers of all time.
Mayweather defeated Pacquiao in an uneventful decision win in 2015, but Pacquiao’s knockout victory over Lucas Matthysse in July pushed him to the forefront of the fight game.
Pacquiao made the announcement Thursday during an appearance at a news conference in Manila for the non-profit International Sports Promotion Society, which named him an ambassador.
Pacquiao said he would be fighting Broner next, either on Jan. 12 or Jan. 19. The fight, which Pacquiao termed “90 percent” done, would likely take place in Las Vegas.
However, a source with knowledge of the deal told ESPN the fight would be Jan. 19, not Jan. 12, though a fight likely wouldn’t be formalized until he settled his tax issues with the U.S. government.
Mayweather vs. Nurmagomedov or Pacquiao vs. Broner—which fight do you want to see more?
Comedian Amy Schumer has joined Rihanna and (maybe) Cardi B in boycotting the Super Bowl to support Colin Kaepernick. The former 49ers quarterback has essentially been shunned by the NFL since he began protesting police violence against young black men by taking a knee during the national anthem.
In an Instagram post, Schumer wrote, “I personally told my reps I wouldn’t do a Super Bowl commercial this year.” Schumer also called out Maroon 5, the Adam Levine-fronted pop group tapped to replace Rihanna during the halftime show.
“I think it would be cool if @maroon5 backed out of super bowl like @badgalriri [did].”
It’s a significant statement for Schumer. Vox reports:
The comedian has had her own controversies related to race, apologizing for telling a racist joke about Hispanics in 2015. She said the joke and other offensive humor stemmed from her “dumb white girl” stage persona. In the wake of the backlash, Schumer said she would take responsibility for her words in the future.
Her decision to back out of Super Bowl ads may signal some growth on her part. Her support of Kaepernick and Rihanna’s boycott of the halftime show help to amplify the athlete’s activism more than two years after he first kneeled during the anthem. Their protest may also usher in a new wave of celebrity activism, as a wide range of public figures, including Diddy, Kathy Griffin, Anika Noni Rose, and Jameela Jamil, have applauded them.
Pink was also considered for the halftime show but reportedly moved on because “the negotiations took so long,” reports Entertainment Tonight.
For their part, Adam Levine and Maroon 5 would love it if Rihanna changed her mind.
A source close to the band told Hollywood Life that if “she changes her stance this year, they would love her to join them to perform ‘If I Never See Your Face Again,’ the song they recorded together.”
It looks like Maroon 5 is happily sticking to their guns and will be there for the big show and has no intention of pulling out.
The anthem controversy isn’t going away anytime soon, and it seems certain there will be more boycotts to come.

I just returned from a trip to NYC, and it served as a great reminder that the number one necessity for clothes in the city is functionality. Don’t get me wrong—New York is a beautiful place, but it’s also dirty and crowded, and being out in the elements for extended periods of time is unavoidable. Unlike in other cities, I can’t just wear whatever I want there, and that makes packing very tricky for me. It’s been nearly a decade since I lived in NYC myself, and while I make it back there a couple times a year, it’s still very difficult to fill a suitcase for my visits. This time, though, I decided to really pay attention to what NYC girls wear to help them survive life in the Big Apple. What I noticed first and foremost was that a lot of their choices are, well, rather boring—but it’s how they style these “boring” basics that always makes them look so cool.
Among the pieces I saw on repeat, there was a lot of outerwear, plenty of layering pieces, and comfortable, easy basics that can be worn over and over without anyone noticing. And isn’t that all any of us want more of in our wardrobes, regardless of where we live? That’s why I’m sharing my findings with you here (and I included Instagram proof to back it up and make it more fun). Keep scrolling to find out which 12 “boring” pieces NYC girls are wearing, and shop each for yourself.
