Dive Deep Into the World’s First Underwater Hotel

The first-of-its-kind underwater hotel we previewed back in April has finally opened at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, and it looks absolutely breathtaking, especially when viewed in the promotional video below, which features world-class free diver Alessia Zecchini.

The Muraka is distinct from a hotel suite—it’s a two-story “underwater hotel residence” with a bedroom 16 feet under the surface. From the bed a visitor can look up and feel like they’re spending a peaceful night under the ocean, without the troublesome danger of inhaling seawater.

The Conrad Maldives didn’t stop with the stunning, minimalist bedroom—above the water is the second floor, which has a sun deck and infinity pool. There’s also a gym, a tub with an ocean view, a well-stocked bar and butler’s quarters.

The requirements for a stay in the Muraka are what distinguish it from a one-night novelty —visitors commit to four days, or $200,000 for the entire package. But there’s even more to the package than the glorious view from the tub or the luminous experience in the underwater bedroom.

The four-night Muraka package will include a personal chef and a private boat, as well.

The Conrad Maldives understands its best asset may be the crystal clear waters of the Indian ocean—after all, it also boasts Ithaa, a five-star restaurant with a similar view.

It’s almost like a stay in Atlantis, minus the mermaids.

This ‘Mad Men’-Inspired Tiny House Has a Fold-Out Smoking Deck and Gorgeous Interior

If you’ve ever wondered what kind of tricked-out tiny house Don Draper would use to get away from the hustle and bustle of ’60s-era Madison Avenue, look no further.

Land Ark named their ultra-stylish RV after the iconic Mad Men character. The Draper model has a multitude of features he’d appreciate, including a foldout smoking deck and luxurious mid-century modern design.

Black corrugated metal siding and sliding patio doors house 300 square feet of efficient living space. Recessed LED lighting and clerestory windows illuminate the built-in queen sleeper sofa, telescopic table and white-washed pine walls.

A kitchen complete a stainless steel fridge, gas cook top, oven, and plenty of counter space means your meals don’t have to shrink with the home.

Beyond the gallery is a mudroom with a seven-foot-wide wardrobe, a separate utility closet with a washer and dryer, a nook with a bench, and a compact three-quarter bath.

Best of all, the sleeping loft can accommodate a king size bed, which would certainly please the aforementioned fictional adman.

The Draper retails for $144,900 and takes 3-4 months to build. Take a tour in the photo gallery above, and head to Land Ark’s website to learn more.

The Capsule Wardrobe I Packed on a 2-Week Trip

Traveling far and frequently has become the norm with living on the opposite side of the country from most of my family. With countless trips for holidays and vacations each year, you’d think that so much travel would teach me a thing or two about efficient packing.

But it wasn’t until recently that I finally figured out the art of the capsule wardrobe when packing for any of these extended trips. Easier said than done, managing to whittle down two weeks’ (and three stops’) worth of belongings into a carry-on suitcase felt like a personal breakthrough.

With an itinerary that involved everything from walking and exploring new places to nicer dinners out and more relaxed family time, packing for that much variety was the main challenge. My first important lesson: Avoid anything too specific. Hyper-trendy pieces are no use to you when you’ll only wear them once in the span of several weeks. What’s more, building a base of neutral pieces means that the outfit combos can be virtually endless.

Which brings me to my second lesson: Let the accessories, shoes, and bags do all the talking. The third lesson: Choose footwear wisely. Avoid packing shoes that only go with one or two articles of clothing, and instead opt for your most versatile pairs. With these basic rules in mind, I built a capsule wardrobe out of 12 pieces. And yes, it lasted me for two weeks of travel.

Scroll down to see (and shop) each piece in my travel capsule wardrobe and keep reading to see it in action.

A long coat in a neutral tone like black or navy is ideal for traveling to colder climates, as it keeps you warm while still achieving an overall sleek look.
A plain sweatshirt to throw over everything is a must, and this version from capsule line Aday stands out from the rest through elevated details like a mock neck, built-in layering, and notched cuffs.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wear this piece multiple times a week in the winter. It’s thin enough to layer under pretty much everything. On this trip, I wore it under the slip dress and, for a forward look, under the T-shirt.
As essential as a white T-shirt is to any capsule wardrobe, I found myself never tiring of n: Philanthropy’s super-soft lightweight fabric and stylish cutout.
The slip dress has come to inhabit the same versatile space as, say, the ankle boot or the skinny jean. In other words, it’s ability to be dressed up or down makes it the only dress I deemed worthy of packing.
I’ll admit that a pencil skirt isn’t the first piece most would choose to pack for vacation, but it was surprisingly simple to dress up with the ankle boots and sweater or down with the T-shirt and sneakers.
Pick one trend piece, and try and get as much use out of it as possible. For me, it was a pair of leather pants that I wore as casually as I’d wear jeans.
For their tailored look, these trousers are surprisingly comfortable. Also available in more sizes.
Look for boots with a low-enough heel to be comfortable walking around in all day (if you’re the type of person who likes exploring new places on foot) but provides a substantial lift to wear for dinner and drinks.
The key to efficient packing, I’ve learned, is for each piece to have multiuse value. Case in point: not just any pair of sneakers, but ones that double as “fashion sneakers” and running shoes, meaning one less pair to squeeze in an already cramped suitcase.
Danse Lente’s architectural shape puts a decidedly sleek spin on the classic tote bag, making stylish travel looks a no-brainer.
Lastly, a small handbag that doubles as a crossbody was a must. Its vibrant colors offered each of my darker looks a touch of something eye-catching.
Here’s where the power of the versatile slip dress comes into play. Layered over the thin turtleneck, it’s slightly more elevated, while over a simple T-shirt, it becomes a low-key weekend uniform.
For travel days and sightseeing excursions, try this relaxed combo. An easygoing trouser-and-sweater combo offered all the comfort of leggings, albeit with a bit more polish, while bright accessories pop against the monochrome palette.
This cool off-duty look is a perfect for a casual dinner with friends or an afternoon of shopping.
For events and family gatherings, this combo offers a neutral palette and more classic shapes.
Give the slip dress the cool-girl treatment by wearing it with athleisure essentials: sneakers and a sweatshirt.
While the T-shirt and sneakers make this look feel casual, throw the long coat over it all to finish it off.

The Influencer We Actually Do Check Every Day for New Outfit Ideas

Instantly recognizable by her bleach blonde hair, super-influencer Jessie Bush’s fashion career has taken many a fascinating turn since she first set up her street style blog back in 2011. She now documents everything from city guides to beauty, and the Bush brand has definitely expanded over the last seven years, but great outfits are still at the heart of what keeps her 349,000 Instagram followers coming back for more.

Never one to be confined to a single fashion archetype, New Zealander Jessie has a chameleon-like ability to seamlessly shift her style: One day it’s a pared-back androgynous suit and the next a frivolous ruffled gown. She possesses a bit of London eclecticism, a dash of Milanese glamour and a good dose of Scandi cool. Oh, and she lives in Barcelona. You just can’t pin that girl down.

Perhaps it’s this versatility that has made us gravitate towards Jessie when looking for style inspiration—you can always count on her to bring something new to every Instagram post, even if she’s wearing the same items on repeat (which is also a quality we appreciate). As her autumnal fashion game has been so damn strong, we decided to create an edit of the four recent outfits that reflect the many faces of this style maven. From color and print to dreamy party dresses, scroll down to see and shop our favorite Jessie Bush looks.

Style Notes: Jessie is the queen of cool staples. A beige knit, checked coat and frayed hem jeans is a look anyone can emulate this fall.
Style Notes: We’re forever looking to Jessie for tips on how to make a pop of color fit seamlessly into our wardrobes. Case in point? This Emilio Pucci ribbed top that’s just what Zimmermann’s zebra-print skirt needs to stand out.
Style Notes: In this birthday party get-up, Jessie champions up-and-coming brand Olivia Rubin, wearing one of the brand’s famed sequinned dresses. Take note for Christmas.
Style Notes: We love how the blogger sticks to just two colors to create this casual yet pulled-together look. Also, the sweater-plus-denim-skirt formula is perfect for tricky trans-seasonal temperatures.
Style Notes: If in doubt, stick to a suit. This Paul Smith two-piece comes in a super-flattering shade of forest green and looks lovely with a beige base-layer, gold jewelry, and sneakers.

We’ve always admired Margherita Missoni for her fearless Italian-girl style (if you’re not following her on Instagram at @mmmargherita, you’re missing out on some seriously fun outfit inspo). Bright colors, playful patterns, statement accessories? She’s game for all of it and clearly prefers dressing on the bolder side of the fashion spectrum.

When we heard she’d be teaming up with Splendid for another collab—this one dropping just in time for the holidays—we instantly began dreaming of festive apparel. What we got IRL? The perfect blend of the comfy, casual pieces we know and love from Splendid, plus Missoni’s unique color-infused flair. We should probably also mention that the collection is super affordable, starting at only $59. We were fortunate to chat with the designer herself about her inspiration for the line, as well as the one item she says is a must-have for the holidays.

I’m so Happy This Comfortable Trend Is Still Going to Be Cool in 2019

There are a few things I feel extremely comfortable in aside from a blanket. However, a boilersuit comes pretty close. Loose-fitting but flattering, casual but chic with heels and easy to layer throughout the year, this pedigree breed of an all-in-one is a true wonder.

I have a couple of age-old boilersuits lurking in my closet because they’re the kind of throw-on piece that comes back around in fashion every couple of years. Some styling moves may change, like the fact that so many people have worn theirs this summer with “ugly” sandals and belt bags, but essentially, the same item will see you through each and every return. Hint: This season, fashion girls are wearing theirs with roll-necks.

In 2018, the boiler suit comeback was kickstarted by the most unlikely version: a pink button-down, super-baggy Ganni jumpsuit. It became a constant presence on the stylish streets of Scandinavian Fashion Week and then filtered through to Instagram. The trend has also inspired sellout pink all-in-ones from ASOS and Urban Outfitters. It was proof that such a traditionally “masculine” and industrial item could be rebelliously fashionable. Next came Topshop’s top-stitched denim boiler suit: More fitted and significantly more retro than it’s power-pink siblings, this sold out in mere moments. Since these two big retail hits, we’ve been on a non-stop boiler suit mission, confident that it will translate so well into next year. Keep scrolling to see what we’ve found…

Style Notes: You can really add personality to a boiler suit with little additions like Ada’s boots or leopard top.
Style Notes: When in doubt, stick to a family of blue tones to look elegant.
Style Notes: Make like the influencer set and add a belt bag and chunky sandals.
Style Notes: If only Joy’s Topshop jumpsuit was still available…
Style Notes: Utilitarian overalls come in this season’s favourite denim alternative: cord.
Style Notes: When Jeanette Madsen wore Ganni’s pink overalls, we all took an interest.
Style Notes: ASOS haven’t been missing out on the action, either. They’ve released multiple versions of pink all-in-ones on its site over the past few months.
Style Notes: The coolest way to wear a bright-pink onesie is definitely with casual styling.
Style Notes: This Joie jumpsuit is such a pale pink that it basically looks white. The contrasted darker stitching makes it a great option for wintry accessories.
Style Notes: Your boilersuit should have the following: pockets (patch ones on the chest are ideal), a belt (or add one of your own), rolled-up hems (to show off shoes and lengthen legs) and a little bit of attitude.
Style Notes: Sneaks are very welcome too—just show a slice of ankle for the most flattering silhouette.
Style Notes: If you aren’t sure of how to winterise your summer jumpsuit, just look to Xiayan and her all-black accessories.
Style Notes: Monikh is in this gallery twice because she’s a fan of the boilersuit. She’s petite, so it’s good to know the proportions can work for shorter women too.
Style Notes: A big thanks to Tracey for showing how to look good in a boilersuit at work—just add a roll-neck and high-heel boots.
Style Notes: Julie received the full ’80s sporty memo. Who would think a lemon-yellow all-in-one could look so elegant?
