The Biggest Holiday Jewelry Trends for 2018

As we inch closer and closer to the holidays, fashion is following suit. On some recent scrolls through Instagram I’ve been spotting fashion girls wearing rich textures like velvet and satin more and more, but also plenty of cool new earring and bracelet styles timed just in time for the festive season. So, what are the biggest holiday jewelry trends that are popping this year?

There’s no doubting that some trends, like oversize pieces and crystal earrings, are everywhere—the latter part of the “chandelier” dressing trend we recently reported on.But there are also fresh takes on classic pieces like pearls and monograms that make them very 2018, as well as statement watches in unique shapes like that are destined for stylish holiday parties. Scroll down to see the biggest jewelry trends for 2018 and to shop pieces inspired by each.

Monogram pieces will never go out of style, and wearing your initials always feels special.
One of my personal favorite trends, I’ve been pairing crystal earrings with everything from velvet bustier tops to T-shirts over on my Instagram. This trend has already exploded, but we see no signs of it slowing down.
The fashion set is gravitating toward watches that double as statement jewelry pieces—like Bulgari’s snakelike Serpenti and Chanel’s graphic Coco Code.
Bigger is better when it comes to utilitarian jewelry styles— like Cartier’s Just un Clou bracelet, which is now available in a supersize version.
You probably owned heart-shaped jewelry in your younger years, but it’s officially cool again. Look for pieces with big proportions.
Diamonds are most frequently worn on everyday studs, but this holiday season you’ll be seeing them in elegant drop earring styles.
Instead of simple strands of pearls, look out for new takes on the classic piece.

4 Winter Pieces That Will Cost You Less Than $13 Per Wear

We’re right at the tipping point where fall’s light layering gives way to winter’s heavy-duty dressing. If October was all about eyeing and predicting which trends would really take hold, now November (and the rest of the winter months) is the time to place our bets and put our money where our mouths are. We’re getting serious about which winter trends are really worth our time and which ones simply aren’t. Since there’s really no way to know for sure if a new purchase will pull its weight and prove to be worth it, we’re identifying five fall items that pose little to no risk.

How exactly do we know this? We did a cost-per-wear calculation to prove just how much value lies in each of the items on our fall shopping list. Ultimately, we came to the conclusion that, given how many outfit ideas we have saved for each item, it will cost us less than $13 every time we wear the piece (given that we copy each of the outfit ideas, of course). If you’re doing some winter shopping on a budget, each of these four buys—a teddy coat, bright sweater, snakeskin boots, and plaid pants—really makes your dollar go the distance. Because we all know that feeling of disappointment when we see a dress hanging in our closet that never actually saw the light of day.

Don’t believe us when we say that each item costs less than $13 per wear? Keep reading to see the outfit ideas that prove it, and then shop the items guilt-free.

Throw it over jeans and ankle boots for a perfect everyday look.
Pair it with trending leopard print for an eye-catching combo.
We know you love skinny jeans, so we’re happy to report that teddy and shearling coats happen to go flawlessly with the evergreen denim.

Leather leggings and combat boots are how NYC’s most stylish will wear the coat.

Let the boots peek out from under the buzzy new anti-skinny jeans trend.
An all-white outfit lets the boots really shine.
Or an all-black ‘fit.
Wear them underneath wide-leg trousers at the office.
A cozy knit and dark skinny jeans are really all the boots need.
This street style look is seriously next-level.

Winter 2018 Fashion Trends: The Only Looks You Need to Know

To say the fall/winter 2018 fashion trends are really tempting is a massive understatement. Some of the key looks for the new season have hit both high-fashion departments and high-street stores way in advance, with the chief of the tribe found within the huge array of animal prints that have touched down everywhere from Balenciaga to Topshop. If you aren’t wearing leopard, zebra, cow, or snake prints within the next few days, I’ll eat my new Manolos.

This first major trend is an indicator of what’s to come for the rest of the year: things are looking loud, shiny, touchy, feely, Instagram-this-ASAP. You could say it’s an “always on” approach to getting dressed. No outfit—no matter how casual—is devoid of a talking point or two. There are the boldest iterations of this way of thinking: Imagine super-short party dresses rendered in ’80s-style duchess satin with puffy shoulders, worn with all of the not-so-essential accoutrements for making a grand entrance, like costume jewelry and sunglasses (at night).

And there are the subtler routes in. Perhaps you’ll update your somber fall looks with a pair of bright red knee-high slouchy boots, or a crystal hairclip that gets everyone in your circle wanting to copy you immediately. Perhaps you’ll be drawn away from the usual blacks and grays you rely on when the weather takes a turn and jump into a world of pretty pastel blues (suiting is key here) or all-brown everything (retro ’70s silhouettes prevail, but brown anything will get a fashion editor’s seal of approval here).

There are some trends that are just too plain wacky to really affect your wardrobe, so for that reason, we’ve left out a few ideas we know you’d rather sidestep. (Balenciaga’s 20 layers à la Joey from Friends are excellent meme fodder, but c’mon—no one has that much time to style an outfit each morning.) Instead, the below looks are the ones that are fast filtering onto the street style scene and into your favorite stores. Before you know it, September will arrive, and the below guide will ensure you’re 100% ready with realistic, really enjoyable trends to try out. Kate Hudson’s First Post-Baby Red Carpet Look Is Timeless

Earlier today, Kate Hudson was appointed an ambassador to the United Nations World Food Programme, in recognition of her efforts to help end hunger and spread the word through her social platforms. For the past three years, Hudson has acted as an ambassador to Michael Kors’s Watch Hunger Stop initiative, which supports the WFP, so fittingly, Kors himself hosted a conversation at UCLA to celebrate and support Hudson’s WFP appointment. Among the attendees were fashion powerhouses like Caro Daur, Aimee Song, and Camila Coelho, to name a few.

To celebrate the honor and recognition, Hudson wore a long-sleeve floral-print dress with a pair of simple nude pointed-toe heels. This also marks the first appearance since the birth of her daughter, Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa. See her first post-baby red carpet look below.

Marc Jacobs Just Resurrected These Iconic 1993 Pieces

Marc Jacobs has churned out many a memorable collection, but there’s one, in particular, that’s firmly embedded in every fashion girl’s memory: the 1993 grunge collection he designed during his tenure at Perry Ellis.

“The ‘Grunge’ collection epitomized the first time in my professional career I was unwavering in my determination to see my vision come to life on the runway, without creative compromise,” Jacobs said in a statement. The press release also reminded us of the fact that Jacobs was famously fired when critics panned the 1993 show. Of course, his career trajectory speaks for itself.

Perry Ellis International was also on board with the resurrection and congratulated Jacobs for his “first of its kind collection that changed the direction of contemporary womenswear.” Scroll down to shop the new pieces in all of their ’90s glory, from plaid flannel to ultra-thin spaghetti straps.

J.Lo’s Private-Plane Outfit Is Peak J.Lo

We talk a lot about airport style here at Who What Wear, and the conversation reliably involves easy-to-slip-on shoes, comfortable clothes, and hassle-free accessories. But when you’re Jennifer Lopez, you pretty much play by your own rules. She wore a head-to-toe designer look for a recent jaunt on her private plane—we seemed to have missed our invite—and it’s just about the chicest travel look we’ve seen.

J.Lo wore Chanel sunglasses and a logo belt with PVC Gianvito Rossi shoes, but the most covetable part of her look was her Hermès Birkin bag. Designer envy aside, her thin, slim-fitting turtleneck and pencil skirt can be easily replicated—just be sure to choose different shades of white for the perfect monochrome look. We’ll forgive you if you only wear it to work rather than the airport. Scroll down to see J.Lo’s new outfit and shop it for yourself.
