Chemists advance ability to control chemical reactions

Chemists have found a way to select the outcome of chemical reaction by employing an elusive and long-sought factor known as the ‘impact parameter’ — the miss-distance by which a reagent molecule misses a target molecule, thereby altering the products of chemical reaction. Termed the ‘forbidden fruit of reaction dynamics’, the impact parameter has previously defied direct control.

Novel use of NMR sheds light on easy-to-make electropolymerized catalysts

In the world of catalytic reactions, polymers created through electropolymerization are attracting renewed attention. A group of researchers recently provided the first detailed characterization of the electrochemical properties of polyaniline and polyaspartic acid (PASP) thin films. The team used a wide range of tests to characterize the polymers, especially their capacity for catalyzing the oxidation of popularly used materials, hydroquinone and catechol.

New extended Aquaman trailer shows off over five minutes of underwater action

We’re still a few months away from Aquaman hitting theaters, during New York Comic Con Warner Bros. has just given us our best look yet at the Jason Momoa-led film with a new extended trailer that’s packed with footage from the movie.

Clocking in at a hefty five minutes, the trailer gives us a general overview of what to expect in December, starting with the basic origin story. Aquaman — aka Arthur Curry — is the son of a human lighthouse keeper and the Atlantean queen (Nicole Kidman), making him the rightful heir to the throne. He’ll be teaming up with Mera (Amber Heard) on what’s revealed to be a quest for a legendary trident (likely the Trident of Neptune) to unite the disparate kingdoms of Atlantis. But there are plenty of foes in…

Nintendo could release a nostalgia-inducing playable Game Boy case

In 2016, Nintendo started developing games designed specifically to be played on smartphones. Titles like Super Mario Run and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp have brought some of the world’s most lovable characters to our pockets without the tactical buttons or plastic, boxy devices we knew and loved. That might be changing, though, because Nintendo has submitted an application for a patent that would make your smartphone look and feel just like a Game Boy.

The patent application was filed this spring, and it describes a case that would fold over a smartphone, showcasing the classic rectangular Game Boy design. There’s a square cutout in the case which let the phone serve as the pseudo-handheld’s screen, and the buttons below it would be…
