5 Controversial ’90s Lingerie Trends That Are Popular Yet Again

Ah, the ’90s. The excess of the ’80s was still alive and well, albeit a slightly grungier version. There were also plenty of ’90s trends that went in the polar opposite direction and embraced minimalism to a T. As is to be expected, these overarching themes didn’t stop at just clothing and accessories. Lingerie styles also followed the trends of the decade—and since wearing pieces that showed off your lingerie started to become a thing in the ’80s, it only gained steam in the ’90s, making what undergarments you chose to wear more important than ever.

Just like every other ’90s trend there was, lingerie trends from the decade have also made a comeback, many of which were and are controversial for one reason or another (but more on that below). With that, read on to find out which five lingerie trends of the ’90s are officially back, whether you like it or not.

Next up, find out which lingerie trends NYC girls are wearing.

When we think of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha, their engagement rings aren’t exactly the first things we think about. We thought we’d honor the perpetually single ladies of Manhattan’s un-singledom by taking a look back at their rocks and hunting down modern versions of them. Keep scrolling to see the engagement rings of Sex and the City, and shop pieces inspired by them!

Proof This Designer Bag Is the Best for Cost-Per-Wear

When you invest in a designer handbag, you want it to be exactly that: an investment. However, with so many new It bags constantly emerging, it can be hard to decide which one you should spend your money on. To help you make that tough decision, there are some obvious rules. For example, you should always consider opting for a bag in one color so that it seamlessly blends into your wardrobe without any fuss. You also want to make sure it’s easy to carry (sounds obvious, but we’ve witnessed otherwise), so you’ll not trade it in for something else in your closet. Finally, it must fit your essentials, as otherwise, you’ll always end up swapping it for something more sizeable.

There are plenty of styles that fit the bill, but over the past few years or so, one has emerged as more popular than the others: the Gucci Soho Disco bag. Launched in 2014, the piece has been carried by many an A-lister, including Emma Roberts, Selena Gomez, and Amber Heard, which is always a guarantee of an iconic bag in the making. We also spoke to the team over at Lyst, the global fashion search platform, about the product, who revealed that the Gucci Soho Disco bag receives, on average, over 3000 searches a month, making it the most popular bag over the past six months.

Not only does the piece currently come in those aforementioned classic colors—black, red, beige, and white—but it easily fits your everyday items (personally, we really stuff everything in there), and it can go across your body, making it super easy to sling on and forget about. Keep scrolling for a look at the bag in action and then shop it.

Style Notes: If your wardrobe is fairly minimalistic, then blue can suit it so nicely.
Style Notes: We love the red paired with leopard print.
Style Notes: While you can’t get this version anymore, it’s worth setting up an alert on Vestiaire Collective to see when someone’s selling it.
Style Notes: Green isn’t the most obvious choice, but this one definitely works.
Style Notes: The easiest to wear? Black, of course.
Style Notes: So pretty.
This one will go with literally everything you already own.
Despite what you might think, this red will work with every outfit in your closet. Next up: 20 items you should own by the time you’re 30. Opening Image: @thestylestalkercom
Beige
Chic and a little cheaper than the rest.

See the Stunning Jewelry Marie Antoinette Wore 200 Years Ago

Back in June, Sotheby’s announced it would be offering up an extraordinary collection of pieces for sale in Geneva in an auction entitled “Royal Jewels from the Bourbon-Parma Family” come November 14, 2018. Now, just a few months away from the sale that is considered to be one of the “most important royal Jewellery collections ever to be presented at an auction,” per the press release, new additions have been added that can be traced back to Queen Marie Antoinette of France.

“Never in the course of history has the destiny of a queen been so closely associated with jewels than that of Marie Antoinette,” the press release reads. “Her great love of pearls and diamonds is well-known and a number of historians have cited Napoleon’s view, that the so-called ‘affair of the diamond necklace’ – a scandal which tarnished the queen’s reputation in 1785 – was one of the causes of the French Revolution.”

The collection includes 10 pieces that belonged to Queen Marie Antoinette, including a pair of diamond and pearl earrings estimated to cost between 200,000 to 300,000 CHF, a beautiful six-strand pearl necklace, and a stunning diamond brooch from the late 18th century.

As mentioned earlier, the extensive collection will officially be put up for auction on November 14, 2018 in Geneva. But prior to this date, highlights will be put on display around the world in a public exhibition, including in New York (October 12 -16), London (October 20-22), and Singapore (October 26-27). Jewelry-lovers, this is your chance to see these historic jewels first-hand.

This Cute New Bag Already Has a Cult Following in Hollywood

When the best dressed models and actresses in Hollywood latch onto one specific bag trend, it’s only a matter of time before everyone else follows suit. We have a feeling the Pop & Suki Takeout Bag ($275) will be no exception. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, VS Angel Sara Sampaio, Yasmin Sewell, and of course the brand’s co-founder, Suki Waterhouse, have all been spotted with the new bag lately, meaning it has all the makings of the next It accessory. (The under-$300 price point certainly doesn’t hurt.)

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra and Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert are partial to a different—but equally cute—style from the same brand: the Lolita ($375). Chopra styled hers with on-trend pastel pants while Engelbert was the epitome of street style chic in an oversize shirtdress. Scroll down to see how everyone styles Pop & Suki’s new bags and shop them for yourself.
