Nike Sales Surged Following Controversial Colin Kaepernick Ad Campaign
Nike’s controversial new campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick is paying dividends.
Despite protests from some consumers who set their swoosh-embroidered shoes ablaze, the sportswear giant’s online sales have rocketed since releasing ads like this commercial narrated by the former 49ers quarterback.
Market Watch has further details:
After an initial dip immediately after the news broke, Nike’s NKE, -0.12% online sales actually grew 31% from the Sunday of Labor Day weekend through Tuesday, as compared with a 17% gain recorded for the same period of 2017, according to San Francisco–based Edison Trends.
Some analysts predicted that Nike’s support of the NFL player who called attention to racial inequality by kneeling during the singing of the national anthem before games would lead to a sales slump. That’s not been the case so far.
“There was speculation that the Nike-Kaepernick campaign would lead to a drop in sales, but our data over the last week does not support that theory,” said Hetal Pandya, co-founder of Edison Trends.
Nike stock has also held steady. Per Market Watch,
The stock was up 1% on Friday and remains in the black for the month. It has gained 29% in 2018, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.31% , which since 2013 has counted Nike as a member, has gained 5%, as the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.22% has risen about 8%.
Data from marketing technology company 4C Insights shows that in addition to financial growth, Nike saw a 1,678 percent uptick in mentions and comments on social media over Sunday and Monday as sentiment toward the brand dropped 38 percent.
“You can be darn sure that Nike has done its research and knows what will move its product and who this campaign will resonate with,” said 4C Chief Marketing Officer Aaron Goldman. “They are the ones [Nike has] decided will be its future customers, so, if others are getting upset, [Nike has] planned for that, and it doesn’t care.”
If any team wanted to sign Kaepernick, now might be the ideal time to do so.
Cardi B Thrown Out of Fashion Week Party After Fighting Nicki Minaj
The beef between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B just got physical.
The rappers reportedly brawled during New York Fashion Week’s Harper’s Bazaar ICONS party on Friday night.
Footage of the catfight is making the rounds on social media. In one video, Cardi B lunges at someone believed to be the “Barbie Dreams” artist. Someone can be heard screaming, “I will fuck you up!”
Cosmopolitan has further details on what went down:
Sources from inside the party say Nicki was taking a photo with Kelly Rowland and La La Anthony when Cardi walked past. Reportedly, Nicki deliberately stepped on Cardi’s train, and then Cardi threw her shoe at Nicki.
You can see a shoe being removed in the video above, and hear a ‘thwack’ noise as it makes contact with its intended target, or some poor security guard who had to take it.
People reports that “Bartier Cardi” was left with a ripped Dolce & Gabbana gown and a giant lump on her head that was visible in multiple photos.
The “Bodak Yellow” singer addressed the altercation without specifically naming Minaj in a profanity-laced Instagram post.
“I’ve let a lot of shit slide! I let you sneak diss me, I let you lie on me, I let you attempt to stop my bags, fuck up the way I eat!” she wrote. “You’ve threaten other artists in the industry, told them if they work with me you’ll stop fuckin with them!! I let you talk big shit about me!!”
Cardi B went on to claim that the rival femcee had spoken ill about her parenting abilities.
“I addressed you once in person, I addressed you a second time in person, and every time you copped the plea!! But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are fuckin off!! I’ve worked to[sic] hard and come too far to let anybody fuck with my success!!!! Bitches talk all that shit in they raps but in real life they pussy!! This shit really is for entertainment!!”
An NYPD Public Information Officer told People that the “incident itself has ended, the investigation is still ongoing.” No arrests have been made.
Check Out The 12 Coolest Exotic Cars from the ‘Art Basel of Automobiles’
Touting itself as ‘the ultimate global show for automotive masterpieces,’ Grand Basel is the four-wheeled equivalent to the famous Art Basel show, with the cars exhibited in boxes that are meant to be the 3D analog to the frames surrounding paintings.
The art inherent in such designs prompts actor and noted automotive enthusiast Idris Elba to ask “How is this not art?” when behind the wheel of one of the classics for the Grand Basel video.
The Basel, Switzerland gathering of 113 artistically significant cars is dubbed Celebrating Excellence in Motion and marks the launch of a world tour of the collection, which features a special exhibit of the work of Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro.
He is the ‘car designer of the century,’ behind iconic vehicles like the DeLorean, Lotus Esprit, Maserati Merak, DeTomaso Mangusta, Maserati Ghibli and the IsoRivolta Grifo.
Giugiaro was a proponent of the 1970s ‘creased-and-folded’ design theme, beginning with his Volkswagen Golf and Scirocco, before expanding the theme to supercars like the BMW M1.
The cars selected for the main Grand Basel exhibition are special because they represent a limited number of top-of-the-range automobiles – not just the most dignified and luxurious classic cars, but also one-off contemporary editions and technically-advanced concept cars.
Selection criteria include each car’s cultural meaning, conceptual innovation, condition, provenance, rarity and value.
“Grand Basel presents international connoisseurs, experts and collectors with the epitome of automotive culture,” explained Grand Basel global director, Mark Backé.
“It will appeal to a broad enthusiast audience interested in automobile aesthetics, technological sophistication, art and culture,” he added.
Grand Basel’s advisory board includes Garage Italia founder Lapo Elkann, who also backs the Maxim-supported Squadra Corse Garage Italia Americas Ferrari racing team that just won the World Challenge GT Sprint X Amateur class championship.
The specific date hasn’t been set yet, but Grand Basel intends for its world tour to include a U.S. stop at Miami Beach in February.
The Prettiest “Ugly” Nike Sneakers of the Season Just Dropped on Nordstrom
Now that clunky dad sneakers are officially mainstream, I’ve finally decided to just embrace them (yes, I’m aware that it took me a while). Since Nordstrom’s sneaker selection is tough to beat, I just took my “ugly” sneaker search there and immediately found a pair that spoke to me.
The resurgence of Nike’s Air Max 95 sneakers isn’t fresh information, but as long as the brand keeps releasing new iterations of the trending style and people keep wearing them, I’m convinced they’ll remain It sneakers for the foreseeable future. Plus, they’re a lot more accessible in both price and look than many other “ugly” dad sneakers on the market. But back to the Nikes that spoke to me. The latest sneaker drop on Nordstrom included a pair of Nike Air Max 95s with a subtle glitter accent. Anyone who knows me is well aware that I have trouble resisting anything sparkly, and these sneakers are no exception. They come in both pale pink and black, so depending on just how cutesy you like your sneakers to be, you can choose accordingly.
Shop the prettiest “ugly” Nike sneakers of the season below, as well as a few other new sneaker arrivals on Nordstrom that you may want to consider too.
Next up, shop the pretty “naked” sneakers Nike just released.
Watch Matthew McConaughey Party Hard in NSFW First Trailer for ‘The Beach Bum’
Just imagine if Harmony Korine, the guy who directed Spring Breakers and wrote Kids, enlisted Matthew McConaughey to play a drug-addled beach bum in a bid to make a classic stoner movie.
Oh, and he enlisted a supporting cast that includes Jimmy Buffett, Snoop Dogg, Jonah Hill, Martin Lawrence, Zac Efron and Isla Fisher to boot. Great news: This actually happened and you can watch the first Red Band trailer for Korine’s The Beach Bum above.
McConaughey stars as a hard-partying dude named Moondog who seems to spend most of his time hanging out, getting wasted by the water, and yes, even playing bongos. So, yeah, basically McConaughey was born to play this role. Moondog asks a convenience store clerk for some acid in the beginning of the trailer to the tune of “Crimson and Clover”, so you know this dude is all about getting mega weird.
“Life’s a fucking rodeo. I’m gonna suck the nectar out of it and fuck it raw ’til the wheels come off,” says McConaughey’s Moondog in the trailer. Well…Alright, alright, alright.
The Beach Bum hits theaters on March 22, 2019, but definitely watch the trailer now to prepare your brain for it.
Watch Ashley Graham Get Totally Soaked in Steamy New Swimsuit Video
Things got hot in a new behind-the-scenes video starring Ashley Graham… maybe even too hot.
The former Maxim cover model had to cool off on set of her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot in on the Caribbean island of Nevis, so she had the crew drench her bikini-clad body with a bucket of water.
The playful moment was one of many extremely GIF-worthy outtakes featured in the clip. You’re welcome in advance.
Trolls might try to shame Graham for being dangerously curvy, but they do nothing to shake her confidence. Just take a look at what she told the New York Times earlier this week.
“People ask, ‘How do you get your confidence?'” Graham said. And it’s like how wouldn’t I have confidence? Or they will say, ‘You are so brave for putting on that swimsuit.’ Well why wouldn’t I do that?”
“That’s not called bravery — that is called putting on a swimsuit,” she added. “Everybody has their idea of what beauty is or what perfect is or what the right shape is and they just express it in a different ways.”
Damn straight! Show you agree by liking one of her stunning recent Instagram photos below:
