NEW HAVEN, CT—Immediately dismissing the high school senior’s chances of acceptance after reviewing his record, Yale admissions officers reportedly decided Friday that an applicant who had actually faced punishment for committing sexual assault was clearly not Yale material. “We have a very high standard here at Yale,…

OnePlus begins rollout of its customized version of Android Pie
Just over one month after the official release of Android Pie, OnePlus is rolling out its version of the update to the OnePlus 6. OxygenOS 9.0, the company’s fork of Google’s operating system, delivers many of the same improvements as stock Android, including a tweaked interface, gesture navigation, and adaptive battery functionality.
The speed at which OnePlus has rolled out this update is impressive given that many manufacturers can take months to update to the latest version of Android, if they do at all. Less than 15 percent of devices are running last year’s Android Oreo, leaving 2016’s Nougat as the most popular version of the software. Google’s most recent attempt to fix the fragmentation issue is called “Project Treble,” and it…

Etymotic’s ER3 line of headphones is for the budget audiophile
Etymotic has launched its latest ER3SE and ER3XR in-ear headphones as affordable alternatives to its high-fidelity, noise-isolating ER4 line. The ER3SE are the Studio Reference model, while the ER3XR Extended Response provide enhanced bass. Both headphones in the ER3 line costs $179 — a much more affordable alternative to the $349 ER4 line — while still providing noise isolation and studio-grade sound.
My colleague Vlad Savov provided a detailed history of the company back in April when he reviewed the Etymotic ER4 line of headphones. Etymotic originally started as an acoustics research and hearing aid company, and its focus on providing accurate sound reproduction has transferred over to the well-reviewed ER4s.

T-Mobile starts to detail in-home 5G goals, plans to take on Charter and Comcast
Back in June, T-Mobile and Sprint announced that as part of their intended merger, they were planning to offer in-home internet based on 5G service, with the goal of becoming the fourth largest ISP in America by 2024. Based on statements to the FCC from T-Mobile’s COO Mike Sievert, we now have more details about what that service may look like, via Fierce Wireless.
According to Sievert, the combined Sprint and T-Mobile entity is setting its sights high when it comes to entering the home internet market. Its goal is to cover “52% of the zip codes across the county by 2024,” a chunk of that market that would include “64% of Charter’s territory and 68% of Comcast’s territory.” It’s an ambitious plan that would see the fledgling 5G service…
