Port workers along East and Gulf Coasts go on strike
Dozens of ports along the East and Gulf Coasts of the US have shut down as thousands of dock workers strike over wages and technology that could replace jobs, according to CNBC. The strike, which began just past midnight on October 1st, could raise prices and make goods harder to get depending on how long it lasts.
The International Longshoremen’s Association, a union that represents around 85,000 dock workers, called the strike after its contract with the US Maritime Alliance (USMX) — the organization backing port employers — expired early Tuesday morning. The strike encompasses ports stretching from Maine to Texas.
Negotiations for a new contract are still ongoing, with the USMX proposing a 50 percent wage increase. Along with better…

Frankie Valli Denies ‘Elder Abuse’ Claims After Distressing Concert Footage
Legendary singer Frankie Valli has responded to worrisome performance footage that has spread on social media, leading some to question whether the iconic singer was a victim of “elder abuse.” But the singer put those theories to bed, telling People, “Nobody has ever made me do anything I didn’t want to do.”
This is the second time in six weeks that Valli has reassured fans he’s performing of his own volition, though the first statement came from his representatives. Since the middle of summer, footage of Valli appearing confused and unable to lip sync to his most famous songs has proliferated across social media. On Aug. 13, his reps issued a statement assuring that Valli was “just fine” following worrisome video from an Aug. 3 concert in California.
On Sept. 30, Valli himself issued a statement to People clarifying that he is making the choice to perform, and intends to appear live so long as he is able. His remarks come amidst a fresh wave of concert footage making the rounds on TikTok.

“I know there has been a lot of stuff on the internet about me lately, so I wanted to clear the air,” Valli began. “I am blessed to be 90 years old and still be doing what I love to do, and as long as I am able, and audiences want to come see me, I am going to be out there performing. I absolutely love what I do. And I know we put on a great show because our fans are still coming out in force and the show still rocks.”
Valli then attempted to explain why he doesn’t appear to be doing that much singing in the circulated footage. Many performance clips show Valli barely able to lip sync to recordings of his most iconic songs while backup singers do their best to fill the cracks.
“The Four Seasons sound was always about layering vocals and instruments. We use our 60 years of experience so we sound like the records,” Valli said. “I sing, I have singers who sing, great arrangements.”
The singer then doubled down, assuring fans that no one is making him perform. “I get a chuckle from the comments wondering if someone [is] forcing me to go on stage. Nobody has ever made me do anything I didn’t want to do.”
Valli is currently traveling with the Four Seasons on a tour expected to run through April 2025. His next performance is scheduled for Oct. 11 in Lake Prior, MN.
Amidst the social media furor, rocker Lenny Kravitz posted a selfie with Valli during a chance travel encounter. “Just ran into the legendary Frankie Valli at the airport. Nothing but respect for you, sir,” Kravitz wrote. “Endless hits and still touring at 90 years young. Love!”

Dick’s Is Selling a $190 Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad for Just $90, and Shoppers Say It’s ‘Very Comfortable’
Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
The busiest car camping time of year is here, and if you’re looking to gear up ahead of your trip, Dick’s Sporting Goods is one of the first places to look for a great deal. The outdoor retailer has some of the steepest discounts on camping gear right now, with up to 75% off select tents from The North Face and Marmot, comfortable hiking boots, and even popular pocket knives. But there’s no piece of gear perhaps more important than a comfortable sleeping pad, and Dick’s just knocked $100 off a great one.
Ampex’s Bertin Self-Inflating Camp Bed is now on sale at Dick’s for $90, which is a little over 50% off of the regular price of $190. Though it only has four reviews, each reviewer has raved about this sleeping pad, noting how “comfortable, easy to use, and durable” it is. If you want to elevate your outdoor camping—and sleeping—experience, this is a great deal on a comfy pad that’ll save your back on the next trip. If you’re looking for something a bit cheaper, it also comes in a slightly smaller model for only $80.

This sleeping pad is just the right size for a car camping or overlanding trip because it’s large enough to make you feel like you’re sleeping at home. It weighs in at 7 pounds, it’s almost the size of a regular twin mattress, and it’s thick enough to boast a toasty warm R-value of 9.1, making it suitable for use in the winter. It’s also very durable since it’s made with a tough TPU-coated bottom and comes with a patch kit, just in case you need to make repairs on the fly. Blowing it up is a cinch with its self-inflating valve, but it also comes with a “pump sack” that lets you fine-tune the firmness. To pack it up, a one-way deflation valve makes the process simple and speedy.
Happy campers raved about how quick and simple it was to get the sleeping pad to the right level. “The design is genius and practical,” one reviewer said, adding, “It’s a game changer for anyone who enjoys camping or outdoor adventures. It is very quick and easy to set up.”
Other shoppers were very satisfied with how comfortable the sleeping pad was. “I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for another day of adventure,” one shopper said. Another echoed that remark, saying it “is seriously the most comfortable air/inflatable mattress I have ever come across.”
To level up your camping sleep experience, you need to pick up a sleeping pad like this one. Not only is it a great deal at a solid $100 off, but it’s easy to set up and deflate, and it’s durable enough to last a long time. But sales don’t last forever, and at this low of a price, it’ll go quickly, so be sure to add one to your cart before it’s too late.
