Kraken Make NHL History With Stunning First-Round Upset of Avalanche

The Kraken are cruising into the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after stunning the reigning champion Avalanche in Sunday’s Game 7 to punch their ticket to the semifinals.

It was a historic series victory for Seattle, who in just their second year of existence as a franchise were able to knock off the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Per ESPN Stats and Info, it’s the first time in NHL history a team has won its first-ever playoff series when up against the league’s defending champs.

The Kraken entered the series as significant underdogs to dethrone Colorado, but as they’ve done all season long, Seattle defied expectations en route to the series win.

Additionally, the Kraken are just the second team in Stanley Cup Playoff history to open the scoring in all seven of their games in a playoff series.

The Kraken finished the 2021-22 regular season with the third-worst record in the league. The young organization made major strides in year two, clinching a playoff berth via the top wild-card spot in the West after going 46-28-8 in the regular season.

Offseason trade acquisition Oliver Bjorkstrand was the hero for the Kraken, scoring both of Seattle’s goals during the 2–1 victory.

Kraken goaltender and former Avalanche All-Star Philipp Grubauer was able to exact revenge against his old squad, just a couple of seasons after they parted ways in free agency following Colorado’s second-round playoff exit in 2020-21.

The Kraken will face the Stars in the second round of the playoffs, who took down the Wild in six games in their first-round playoff series.

Stunned Bruins Broadcaster Compares Game 7 Loss to Hindenburg Disaster

The Bruins, who broke the NHL’s record for most wins and points in a single regular season this year, were upset by the Panthers in the first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Sunday.

It was a disappointing end to a season brimming with promise, and the loss prompted an eyebrow-raising call from play-by-play commentator Jack Edwards, who compared Boston’s playoffs defeat to the Hindenburg disaster.

“[Carter] Verhaeghe wins the series for Florida, and this joyride ends in an Hindenburg-like ending,” said Edwards. “The Bruins are the second record-setting team in a row to drop the series in the first round.”

The No. 1-seeded Bruins had lofty expectations heading into the postseason. They fell well short of those goals, however, prompting Edwards to compare their playoff exit to one of history’s most infamous disasters.

The Bruins rallied from down 2–0 in order to take a 3–2 lead against the Panthers, but with under a minute remaining in regulation, Florida’s Brandon Montour tied the game. Verhaeghe then scored the game-winner in overtime, cueing Edwards’s unsparing call.

For a team that won 65 games in the regular season, a first-round playoff loss can certainly be considered “crashing out of the postseason,” but Edwards took things a step further with his call on Sunday.

This Type of Nail Polish Ensures a Sophisticated Vibe With Literally No Effort

For most of my life, I’ve been a red nail polish devotee. There was a time when I only ever painted my nails red and you’d never see me with any other color on my fingertips. I still love making a statement with bold nail polish colors, but in the past few years, I’ve learned to embrace softer, more subtle nail polish shades.

While I’d argue that when it comes to nail polish, red is a neutral, there’s something to be said for truly neutral nail colors. These nail colors, particularly in sheer washes, go with absolutely everything. Sheer nail polish is perfect for any occasion, it goes with everything in your closet, and it’s kind of like a filter for your nails—they’ll look low-key but still polished.

Keep reading for the best-selling and editor-favorite sheer nail polishes, separated into categories for every color.

This baby-pink nail polish is also streak-free, so you’ll get an even coat.  The gushing customer review: “Quality product, it’s a beautiful pink nude and natural color. An excellent color for fair skin of all ages.”

If gel manicures are your usual vibe, this petal-pink nail polish is chip- and fade-resistant, mimicking an in-salon manicure.  The gushing customer review: “I wanted a very sheer pink, the kind my manicurist uses for my gel French manicure. This is sheer! I did the recommended two coats of color and one of clear, and this looks like I just had a gel manicure.”

This chip-resistant color will last you for at least seven days, so if chips are your downfall, this is the perfect nail polish for you. It’s also the perfect shade of cool pink.  The gushing customer review: “I’m getting good wear from this one. No chips in the first 36 hours. The color is sheer and a great neutral pink for cool skin tones.”

Beige-toned pink is the ideal flirty-yet-classy polish. JinSoon nail polishes last almost as well as a gel manicure, which is reason enough to try this polish out.  The gushing customer review: “Amazing quality and perfect color. It’s so long-lasting, I love it.”

A jelly pink is a fun ’90s take on sheer nail polish.  The gushing customer review: “Great soft neutral pink that goes on super easily and goes with everything. This is an upgrade from plain unpolished nails.”

This chestnut-leaning warm nude packs a major punch on your nails.  The gushing customer review: “This is the bomb! I can easily apply it to my nails myself. It does not chip. It does not crack. It stays completely on. It dries fast and it stays on for almost two weeks.”

Consider this sheer nude your nails but better.  The gushing customer review: “This is the most ideal, neutral, nude nail polish. The sheer formula makes it totally foolproof.”

This almond nail color has a hint of shimmer for an eye-catching detail.  The gushing customer review: “I have over 500 bottles of nail polish (all kinds of brands), and this polish is definitely a favorite of mine. The brush is so awesome. You can get your whole nail covered in one or two strokes, depending on the size of your nails.”

This super-sheer brown was formulated to enhance your natural nails. Plus, the formula is blended with nourishing ingredients that keep your nails healthy.  The gushing customer review: “I consider this color a BB cream for nails. It evens them out and makes them look so natural and lovely.”

Formulated with argan oil for moisturizing benefits, this sheer nude also gives the dreamiest pearl touch.  The gushing customer review: “I like that it makes my nails look nicer than if I just put clear polish on them—it looks more classy. It also takes all week to even start chipping on me and I don’t even use a top coat.”

This sheer tan color looks good on absolutely everyone.  The gushing customer review: “I’m a sucker for neutral colors so I have many. This color is the perfect neutral. One coat gives nice sheer coverage, but it’s totally buildable for a more opaque look.”

This is one of the shades Hailey Bieber uses as the base for her glazed donut nails—and it truly lives up to the hype.  . The gushing customer review: “Lovely neutral that mimics the color of your nail beds, but better. Looks pretty against my dark skin.”

This sheer ivory is understated but looks so sophisticated. It’s essentially a Chanel bag for your nails.  The gushing customer review: “I am in love with this nail polish! I like natural nails, so this gives a polished look but looks very natural. It dries fast so you don’t have to worry about messy nails. Looks great on my feet too.”

If you want your nails to mimic pearls, this is the nail polish for you. In the right lighting, it flashes gold.  The gushing customer review: “Super cute—it applies easily and stays for a long time. The polish has gold undertones.”

This soft, sheer white will make your nails look perfect.  The gushing customer review: “This Essie nail polish is great! I really love the color and the quality is amazing. Even the brush shape was incredible for a flawless manicure.”

9 Le Labo Scents That Are Low-Key Better Than Santal 33 (There, I Said It)

Look, I’ll be the first to admit that Le Labo’s iconic Santal 33 scent smells really good. In addition to owning a bottle myself, the fragrance has become so wildly popular over the years that it’s basically a calling card for in-the-know millennials. Basically, if you know, you know. But the Brooklyn-based perfume brand has so much more to offer in the way of its oil-based unisex scents beyond just its best seller, and I’m here to walk you through where to even begin.

It’s easy to see why the brand has become so popular. Each of the fragrances is layered with an intoxicating medley of notes, and since they’re oil based, one spritz can last you all day. I know they can be pricey, but in my opinion, the cost per wear makes it well worth the spend. For my own fragrance mission (and yours too), I asked Le Labo to send me samples of its best-selling scents, and the brand kindly shared its Discovery Kit filled with 17 sample-size spritzes. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been switching up my scent on a daily basis, mostly because I like putting on perfume even if I don’t leave the house just to feel something, but also because I wanted to give you my honest reviews of the best Le Labo perfumes.

Since fragrance reviews tend to be hard to decipher with their technical descriptions of all the layered notes in a scent, I approached each of these with what I think is a more user-friendly description of perfumes. Here’s my opinion on how wearing each of these fragrances made me feel, what mood they put me in, and what occasion I would wear them for. Keep scrolling if you’re intrigued, and be sure to head all the way to the bottom for what I think is the best Le Labo fragrance.

Fragrance Family: Floral. Key Notes: Rose, musk, mandarin orange. My first impression of Neroli 36 was how utterly sophisticated it made me feel. This is the kind of soft and delicate floral fragrance I can imagine myself wearing as the ultimate put-together older version of myself, you know? It’s a lovely floral that’s clean, light, and a bit sweet, but it’s certainly not overpowering.  Customer Review: “Such a lovely scent. When first applied the aroma smells like a floral clean scent. As the day wears on the scent changes & warms up & moves into a more fruity scent. Really enjoying this fragrance.”

Fragrance Family: Floral. Key Notes: Jasmine, musk, sandalwood, vanilla. I’m not normally drawn to floral scents, as they don’t feel very “me.” That being said, I was instantly drawn to Jasmin 17. It offers something more complex than your basic floral scent thanks to notes like sandalwood and musk while still being really light and lovely—overall a well-balanced scent. This would be a perfect spring fragrance, and it makes me want to throw on my favorite puff-sleeve dress and sandals for a walk. Customer Review: “I love this scent. It’s so smoothly floral, very light yet fragrant enough to notice. It’s sweet and youthful.”

Fragrance Family: Floral. Key Notes: Bergamot, petitgrain, lemon. Okay, I know I said florals weren’t typically my thing (I’m more drawn to musk scents), but wow, Fleur d’Oranger 27 is delightful. It’s a true orange blossom scent that’s rich and creamy and, to my surprise, was one of the longest-lasting scents of the florals I tested. It only began to fade after about eight hours of wear, which definitely impressed me. Customer Review: “Le Labo’s Fleur D’Oranger 27 is elegant. I can only describe this fragrance Fleur d’Oranger 27 includes notes of orange blossom, musk, bergamot, petit grain and lemon. Naturally, you must adore orange blossom.”

Fragrance Family: Aromatic. Key Notes: Ambrette seed, citrus. It’s hard to describe this fragrance since it’s such a light, delicate scent, but it really pulls you in. The best way I can describe it is this: Think of someone you know who just always smells really good, but it’s not like they’re wearing a fragrance—they naturally smell good. That’s Ambrette 9 in a nutshell. It’s sort of like that fresh, clean feeling you get when you step out of the shower. It’s an immediate yes from me. Customer Review: “Lovely bottle and fragrance; Light, natural, soft scent. Great for times when you don’t want to wear a strong perfume but still something pretty.”

Fragrance Family: Citrus. Key Notes: Bergamot, amber, musk, grapefruit, vetiver, petitgrain, vanilla, orange blossom, cedar. Bergamote 22 is the perfect fragrance for the dead of summer. It’s a cooling citrus scent that’s like a freshly squeezed cocktail of bergamot and grapefruit that jolts you out of the heat slump. Customer Review: “This perfume stays on all day long! I get compliments every time I wear any Le Labo product! I mean; I have 11 hour days and by mid night I still smell as if I’m ready for a night out. Love it!”

Fragrance Family: Fresh. Key Notes: Patchouli, juniper berry, ozonic notes, musk, green leaves, ambroxan. Fresh and clean with hints of spice, this would be a great everyday scent to wear, as it felt ultra versatile. Customer Review: “A very classy and clean scent. Has a feminine touch to it. Will wear it to work and a casual night out. Very nice!”

Fragrance Family: Musk. Key Notes: Ambergris, ambrette, musk, pear, amyl salicylate. I may be biased because this is actually a scent I’ve been wearing for a few years now, but I will say it’s not for everyone. It’s the brainchild of Le Labo and Another Mag, but unlike the brand’s city-exclusive scents, this one was adopted into its permanent line, making it widely available throughout the year.  My mom sniffed it once and told me she thought it smelled bad. Although that might be on purpose, as others have classified the fragrance’s simplistic scent profile as “industrial.” It’s one of those unisex fragrances that will surely earn you compliments if you can pull it off.  Customer Review: “Le Labo’s AnOther 13 is a very lovely, delicate floral scent that has an extraordinarily lasting presence on your skin. I’ve discovered my signature scent! Thank you Le Labo.”

Fragrance Family: Floral. Key Notes: Rose, cumin, vetiver, cedar, oud, musk, guaiac wood, olibanum, labdanum. Rose 31 is a deep, earthy rose, so I was surprised I like it so much. It’s a departure from the overly sweet and girly perfumes of my teenage years. It’s the type of fragrance you want to keep sniffing every five seconds. It’s just that good. Customer Review: I cannot day enough about Rose 31. I get so many compliments and I wear it all the time. I admit I am a scent snob and have other fragrances however this is my go to. It’s the perfect scent and worth it price.

Fragrance Family: Woody. Key Notes: Bergamot, fig, bay leaf, cedar, vetiver, hay, tobacco. I first caught a whiff of this scent on my friend Sam, who is one of those people who is cool without trying, and I think it describes the scent perfectly. It has this deep intensity to it that’s a bit intoxicating in the same way that Santal 33 is. It’s distinctive and sophisticated. I would say this reads like a really alluring scent to wear on a date or out to dinner, as it strikes me as being perfect for going out at night. Customer Review: “[Thé] Noir 9 has such a complex woody yet fresh scent that I can’t describe besides saying it smells like I’m having dinner at sunset on the beach during early autumn. That’s it. It’s that good.”

If You Have Sensitive Skin But Still Love Perfume, Read This

Your skin deserves the VIP treatment. When deciding which beauty products to invest in, pausing to consider how your skin may respond to a fragrance may not always be a top priority for all perfume wearers. But for people who have sensitive skin, knowing which fragrances won’t irritate your skin is a game-changer.

While the word “hypoallergenic” is tricky when it comes to perfume (fragrances are known allergens, after all!), there are some perfumes that are better for sensitive, allergy-prone skin than others.

When shopping for perfume, be sure to read the label if you fall on the sensitive side. Try to avoid perfumes that have ingredients such as acetone, linalool, phthalates, and parabens. These ingredients can irritate allergy-prone skin. Take the time to discover perfumes that are safe to use. Believe me—your skin will thank you in the long run!

Read on to see the best perfumes and brands for allergy-prone, sensitive skin.

Key notes: cappuccino, pure vanilla, caramelized cedar. Skylar was founded by Cat Chen after her daughter had an allergic reaction to her perfume. All Skylar perfumes are hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, vegan, and safe to use on sensitive skin. One of its best sellers, Vanilla Sky, is what I like to call the perfect vanilla cappuccino as a perfume—but better.  Customer Review: “I love this scent alone and also layered with Coconut Cove. It is so warm and cozy! The scent lasts quite a while and I can understand while it’s so highly rated. It’s not an overly sweet gourmand vanilla, but more on the earthy side.”

Key notes: bergamot, coconut, ambrox. Now that you’re familiar with Skylar, here’s another one of its fragrances you should have on your radar. Coconut Cove is crafted from a delicious blend of creamy coconut, jasmine, and gardenia. Customer Review: “Got a sample of this perfect and I’m obsessed! Takes me right back to a sunny tropical vacation with a mojito in my hand. The perfect summer scent!”

Key notes: pink peppercorn, Turkish rose, amber woods. Famously founded by Michelle Pfeiffer in 2019, Henry Rose creates fine fragrances that are hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and free of parabens and phthalates. One of Henry Rose’s best-selling fragrances, Sheep’s Clothing, boasts a fresh approach to classic rose fragrances by juxtaposing its soft, powdery note of Turkish rose with amber woods and vibrant pink peppercorn. Customer Review: “This fragrance is unbelievable! I am a huge fan of rose perfume and Henry Rose found the perfect balance of rose with a gentle spicy back note. I get 1000 compliments every time I wear it, and it is never overwhelming.”

Key notes: vanilla bean, rose, freesia, musk. This is another Henry Rose fragrance that has received high reviews and high exposure since its release. Rich and earthy, this one is the complete opposite of the aforementioned perfume, yet it stands on its own as a leader for floral and earthy fragrances. Customer Review: “A perfect blend of vanilla and vetiver creates an alluring and comforting scent. Cannot believe how many compliments I get wearing this.”

Key notes: Italian lemon, bergamot, wild figs, Moroccan tea. Add Nest New York to your list of high-performing and long-lasting perfumes that are cruelty-free and great for sensitive skin. Moroccan tea is at the core of this warm, spicy, and exotic Nest New York eau de parfum. An exploration of the Mediterranean, this fragrance offers cool spices combined with bright fruits and warm woods. Customer Review: “Really nice smelling perfume, a refreshing and delicious scent. Nothing like I’ve smelled before! It smells citrusy and warm, but light at the same time. Could see this being a daytime or nighttime perfume.”

Key notes: golden orchid, amber, musk. Check out another one of Nest New York’s fragrances: Golden Nectar. It features a lovely mix of the nectar of golden orchids, vanilla, and musk for an altogether sensual and romantic finish. Customer Review: “This fragrance is so good and lasts very long. If you are looking for a peachy fresh and floral scent this is your go-to! Perfect for all seasons!”

Key notes: bluebell, persimmon, white musk. Jo Malone London is a household brand known for its timeless fragrances. They’re as soft on the nose as they are on the skin. The Wild Bluebell Cologne continues the tradition with a fresh, floral fragrance crafted from the perfect mixture of sweet florals, earthy greens, and cozy white musk. Customer Review: “This is so unlike anything I’ve ever tried! My absolute favorite Jo Malone scent. It’s floral, deep, soft, with a hit of juiciness and warmth… it’s so lovely. Soft without being sweet or powdery. I have over 30 luxury fragrances and grab for this one almost everyday—that’s saying a lot!”

Key notes: cassis, acacia honey, peach. Jo Malone’s Nectarine Blossom & Honey is another one worth noting, especially for fans of fruity fragrances. It has bold, juicy notes of nectarine, peach, cassis, and white flowers balanced by a dash of acacia honey and peach. Customer Review: “Smells amazing! It’s delicate and not too overpowering. I am sensitive to strong perfume so this is perfect for me. Fun to layer with other JM scents!”

Key notes: myrrh, vanilla, sandalwood. All 7 Virtues fragrances are hypoallergenic and crafted without phthalates, parabens, or sulfates. They’re also fully vegan and cruelty-free. Santal Vanille is a long-lasting eau de parfum that balances coconut and cashmere with rich sandalwood and warm myrrh. For anyone looking for a perfume that’s warm, spicy, and sweet, this one deserves all the hype it gets.  Customer Review: “This is simple and sexy. It’s warm, grounded and a bit sweet. It feels like a hug. I wanted something that smelled like true sandalwood but wasn’t completely masculine.”

Key notes: mandarin, orange blossom, labdanum. Looking for another inspired fragrance to tickle your nose? The 7 Virtues’ Orange Blossom blends tangerine, mandarin, and bergamot with light and sweet notes of jasmine, amber, and ethically sourced orange blossom essential oil from Afghanistan. Customer Review: “Yeah, this is by far one of the most beautiful, peaceful and incredible smelling scents I’ve ever found. Floral but not old smelling, lightly citrusy without being masculine or jarring, musky without being musky (if that makes sense)… I’m obsessed.”

Key notes: amber, bergamot, white musk. Have you spotted this It-girl brand on social media? DedCool was founded and created in 2016 by Carina Chaz at only 21. Each fragrance is crafted using sustainable ingredients. This soft, cozy, and milky scent blends seamlessly with your chemistry for a unique eau de parfum that’s quite literally all you. Customer Review: “Absolutely in love with this fragrance! I’ve been wearing it every single day for the past few months. It’s perfect by itself but so versatile when layered with another fragrance. It melts so beautifully into my skin and gives me such a unique personal scent.”

Key notes: bergamot, vanilla, amber. Belonging to the warm and sheer fragrance families, DedCool’s Taunt Eau de Parfum does just what you’d think: use a sensual blend of bergamot, vanilla, and amber that’s as sexy and fabulous as you are. Customer Review: “This is a soft, lasting, beautiful scent that you can’t get enough of. I get compliments on it every time I wear it. It is so light and luxurious, will definitely continue to explore DedCool fragrances.”

Key notes: grapefruit, cedarwood, patchouli. If you’re in need of a fragrance with a French touch, try Maison Louis Marie. The company is dedicated to using formulas that are vegan, cruelty-free, and free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.  This eau de parfum is earthy and woodsy with delightful notes of citrus, cedarwood, and patchouli. It makes me imagine a summer’s day spent tucked away in a cozy cabin in the woods. Customer Review: “I am absolutely obsessed with this perfume! I’m not huge on sweet or floral perfumes, and tend to lean more towards earthy, woody, and sharp citrus scents.”

Key notes: sandalwood, vetiver, amber wood. A little less cabin-like is Maison Louis Marie’s No. 04 Bois de Balincourt Perfume Oil. It’s simple and light, with a warm and woody fragrance supplemented by spicy cinnamon and nutmeg. Customer Review: “One of my all time favorites! Unisex, easy to wear. It’s comforting, cozy, and has personality while being inoffensive. You could wear this to the office, to the beach, on a hike or special date night.”

Key Notes: Italian bergamot, grapefruit peel, Haitian vetiver. Malin+Goetz is a family-owned and operated brand founded in 2004 with the goal of catering to the needs of people with sensitive skin. Inspired by the dual nature of the grassy vetiver, this Malin+Goetz perfume combines bright citrus, fresh cardamom, and cozy notes of warm amber for a fragrance that’s clean and smoky.  Customer Review: “This is easily in my top 3 fragrances ever. It’s such a clean refreshing fragrance in its own unique way! Very smooth and easy to love! I love that it can be worn during any season and is also very unisex!”

Key notes: fig, amber, gardenia. Meet By Rosie Jane. It’s a fine fragrance brand dedicated to clean and vegan fragrances that is great for anyone looking to upgrade their collection. If you aren’t sure if you prefer, earthy, floral, or light fragrances, By Rosie Jane’s James Eau de Parfum won’t make you choose. It’s all three, creating a scent that’s as airy as it is earthy with a whisper of powdery, fresh florals. Customer Review: “If you’re looking for a new signature scent or a backbone for your perfume wardrobe, try James. It’s the perfect blend for nearly every occasion with a base of comforting amber but something so distinctive and cool between the gardenia and fig on top.”
