Why The Wylder Windham Hotel Should Be On Your Upstate New York Bucket List

Wylder Windham

The next time you feel the urge to get away, the solution is sometimes as simple as looking north. In the at-times quiet, at-times lively mountain town of Windham, you’ll find everything you need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life at the Wylder Windham.

As Maxim found out during an exclusive visit on a frigid February weekend, there’s nothing quite like a restful, rejuvenating trek upstate, and it helps if the accommodations are the perfect blend of rustic and refined luxury.

Wylder Windham

A fairly quick jaunt via train or car from New York City along the Hudson River, the lodge manages to encapsulate more than 140 years of history in a compound featuring seven different distinctive lodging options (including a farmhouse, a historic inn and a manor).

The property itself served the surrounding area since 1880 before Wylder acquired, revamped and rebooted the lodge, which celebrated its grand (re)opening last fall.

Wylder Windham

The rolling hills and the nearby Windham Mountain provide a suitably epic, at-times breathtaking setting for the well-appointed Wylder Windham, which boasts 110 handsome, cozy rooms.

The lovely area–including nearby nature walk Windham Path–was covered in a frosty coating of snow during our February visit, yet would appear absolutely breathtaking at the height of leaf-peeping season.

Wylder Windham

The nearby town of Windham boasts a mix of quaint shops, farm-to-table restaurants and a down-home feel not often found in New York City or another bustling metropolis, and the Wylder Windham retains that same charm throughout the property.

Perhaps the real appeal of the Wylder Windham is your ability to customize your trip in a rather eye-popping number of ways.

Wylder Windham

Start planning your visit now, because it would appear that late winter and early spring lodging is filling up quickly. Rates start at $350/night, with a number of sizes available.

Accommodations are designated with apt monikers like “Cozy” and “Charming,” boasting touches like wide plank oak floors, private balconies in some cases and wonderful streamside and Windham Mountain views.

Wylder Windham

The resort offers free transportation to the nearby Windham Mountain in a vintage Land Rover Defender 110 Shuttle, while the 1.5-mile Windham Path gives nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts the option to undertake a moderate walk through rolling fields.

Yet, those who prefer a touch more relaxation are sure to love the vintage game room, which boasts everything from ping-pong to foosball to ring toss and throwback arcade games (it proved the perfect respite from a chilly winter day).

Wylder Windham

In warmer climes, the outdoor lawn boasts pickleball courts, tree swings, hammocks, a heated outdoor pool and fire pits–to name but a few amenities offering tried-and-true fun for the entire family.

Private event space is also readily at hand, and it’s hard to imagine a more appealing upstate getaway to tie the knot or celebrate a special occasion.

Wylder Windham

A barrel sauna even offers a touch of rustic outdoor relaxation, another added bonus of escaping into the wilderness north of New York City.

Wylder Windham

The property’s A-to-Z approach is perhaps best evidenced by the fact that you can start your day with a fresh cup of coffee at in the quaint cafe at Babblers, the on-site bakery and restaurant, before returning later that night for a decadent dinner.

Wylder Windham

Crisp local beers and sumptuous, timeless cocktails like an Old Fashioned are in plentiful supply at Babblers, while decadent takes on the classics (like expertly executed steak frites) dot the menu.

Wylder Windham

A hearty meal provided the ideal antidote to a windswept weekend, but one gets the impression that Babblers delivers fresh, local fare any time of year. Take note: The Bourbon Pecan Pie makes for the perfect pairing with a classic bourbon from the restaurant’s carefully curated selection.

Wylder Windham

Not far down the street from the Wylder Windham is another excellent example of the charm of the town itself, the hotel, bar and restaurant Union + Post. It’s a modern blend of rugged charm serving up rich comfort food.

At times though, it’s best to remember the Wylder Windham is a self-contained slice of historic luxury, with just about everything one might need to enjoy a weekend upstate, away from the daily grind.

Competition for your hard-earned time and money might be stiff among the latest crop of modern Catskills getaways, but the history and heritage of Wylder Windham–buoyed by stunning modern amenities–sure is hard to beat.

It could just be your new favorite upstate getaway, and that’s certainly saying plenty.

Impressing Us Is Hard—42 Beauty Products That Knocked Our Damn Socks Off in Feb

By now, you’ve probably surmised that we test-drive a lot of beauty products here at Who What Wear HQ. From nail polish and makeup to hair and skincare, we’re eyebrow-deep in all things new, exciting, and wish list–worthy. That said, due to the number of products we come in contact with, we’ve also transformed into the nitpickiest of beauty consumers. Within seconds, we can tell if a new hair oil is too heavy, and we’re quick to ignore a serum that yields disappointing results.

The good news? We’re far more often impressed than unimpressed after trying out a new product, and usually, we simply can’t wait to spread the word to all of our fellow beauty lovers (also known as you!). Therefore, we’ve decided gushing over our latest fave products should become a monthly ritual, and every 30 days or so, you can expect a full report detailing the highlighters, hair wands, and overnight skincare saviors we’ve quickly fallen head over heels for.

For the most part, we’ll be covering buzzworthy launches, as those typically take up most of the action atop our product-filled desks, but we won’t dismiss new-to-us products, either. Sometimes, our best discoveries are found on a friend’s vanity or on someone’s face at the bar (true story). Ahead are the best beauty products we tried in February! Grab your game face and wallet—you’ll be needing both.

Guys, I wouldn’t recommend a $55 cleanser if I didn’t think it was the absolute bee’s knees and completely worth the investment. Weird as it may sound, I’m so picky with my cleansers and have only ever loved three—yes, three! This one (which just launched today) is highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way. It has a satisfying, luxurious gel-to-foam formula that easily decongests and cleanses the skin without stripping or disrupting your precious skin barrier. The mix of cocamidopropyl betaine (a sulfate-free cleansing agent), murumuru butter, niacinamide, beetroot extract, and skin-plumping benefactor saccharide isomerate work with your skin’s chemistry to maintain an optimal pH and juicy moisture levels. My skin has never felt more “reborn” post-cleanse. On top of all that, it’s so freaking pretty—the formula itself looks pearlized, and the packaging is really chic. I also appreciate that it’s fragrance-free.

I probably own upwards of 200 lipsticks (this is not an exaggeration), and Sisley’s Phyto-Rouge Shine lippies are the ones I reach for the most often. That’s probably because they offer the best of all worlds: the shine of a gloss, the comfortable slip of a balm, and the pigment of a lipstick. Plus, they give you a delicious plumping effect thanks to the Hydrobooster complex. The shade Sheer Blossom was my go-to until this new color collab with celeb makeup artist Patrick Foley launched called Sheer Beverly Hills. It has that your-lips-but-better impact and has quickly become my daily lip uniform.

If you hate being sick, I’d highly recommend buying Beekeeper’s Naturals new propolis and vitamin C liposomal packs. I have the type of immune system where someone sneezing a football field away from me will likely get me sick. I started incorporating these into my supplement routine after having an extremely rough fall (I, quite literally, could not get well—tonsilitis, strep throat, ear and lung infections, etc.) and have lived in terror of getting sick again ever since. I’ve taken a dose religiously every morning ever since the launch, and aside from a random attack of food poisoning, I have—knock on wood—stayed well! I’ve always been obsessed with the Beekeeper’s line, but this has to be my favorite formula yet.

I’ve had so much Nutrafol FOMO over the years, desperately wanting the long and lush hair-thickening results everyone I see and talk to rave about, but I was unable to actually try the formula thanks to the addition of biotin, which makes me break out like crazy. So not only am I thrilled about the brand’s newest iteration because it’s vegan (in the last year or so, I’ve swerved to a predominantly plant-based diet) but also because it’s biotin-free! Suffice to say, I was so excited to get my hands on the new launch that I immediately put in a Sephora order fully knowing I had a shipment coming to me eventually from the brand as a press gift. That’s how antsy I am for my bleached, fine hair to reap its magical benefits.

I’ve been on a little bit of a bleaching bender and have been seeing my colorist more regularly than ever before in the past year or so. Even though I’m diligent about taking care of my hair (minimal heat-styling, lots of bond-building products, etc.) and my colorist prioritizes the integrity of my hair, bleach is bleach, and it will cause hair loss, breakage, and damage no matter what you do. I’ve felt a noticeable loss in thickness and manageability recently, and hue change could be in my foreseeable future, but for now, I’m doing my due diligence by incorporating high-quality supplements (see above) and banishing my hot tools. Thus, chic slicked styles have become my best friend, and this hair gel from Rahua is my ultimate PIC in said endeavor. Rahua has always been one of my favorite natural haircare brands, and this gel has impressed the hell out of me. It has flexible hold and styling power with a smooth, angel-soft result thanks to a green juice–inspired blend of aloe vera, cucumber, chlorophyll, and the brand’s symbiotic rainforest-grown antioxidants, which include guayusa, rahua, and sacha inchi. It’s fab, and you’ll love it!

I’ve been using and loving Rouleau’s products religiously for about a month now, and nothing has gotten me more compliments on my skin than when I use this toner! It has the texture of a serum but absorbs into the skin so nicely and works wonders for my dehydrated, sensitive, acne-prone skin. The glow is almost instant after I use it, and my skin stays hydrated literally all day after use. It’s the perfect winter toner for anyone struggling with dry or dehydrated skin.

I’m usually pretty skeptical about trying tinted moisturizers just because I’m more of a full-coverage kind of gal, but this one from Ami Colé really impressed me. I paired it with the brand’s concealer and absolutely loved the soft, natural finish it created on my skin. It also offered a pretty good amount of coverage considering it’s supposed to be more of a skin tint. It’s also just really creamy and easy to blend out.

I’m obsessed with this SPF primer from Naked Sundays! It literally does give you a serious glow right after you apply it, and it leaves absolutely no white cast. I always get a little bit nervous trying new sunscreens because my skin is super sensitive and acne prone, but this one didn’t break me out at all. I wear it by itself and use it as a makeup primer now, and it works fantastically both ways.

Dieux products are so heavenly. This serum calms my skin, leaves it so hydrated, and firms it right up with a hefty dose of peptides. I tried it recently along with the Auracle eye cream because my fellow beauty editor Katie Berohn told me how amazing they both are! She was right. They’re now winter staples for me considering how dry the weather has been lately.

This fragrance offers everything I’ve ever wanted in a perfume. It’s so light, fruity, delicious, and airy. It contains crisp notes of tangerine, freesia, lilies, rose, jasmine, and sandalwood, and I haven’t been able to stop spritzing it—even when I’m just sitting and working at home. If I were to have a signature scent, this would definitely be it.

Ever since I initially tested this out, it’s quickly become a go-to in my daily routine. I now have a different shade in every single one of my bags so that I can always have one on me. I love the sheer wash of color these lip balms impart, and I also love how hydrating they are. Especially in the winter, my lips get so dry, so having a product that both hydrates and adds color is big.

Armani’s newest scent is absolutely electrifying. It’s creamy, woodsy, and spicy, all in one. It just might be—dare I say—the new (slightly more affordable!) Santal 33.

I’ve always been a Balm Dotcom fan, and the newest version did not disappoint. It’s the same moisturizing formula I’ve always loved, but now, it’s completely vegan. My biggest qualm with Balm Dotcom has always been its packaging. I have never liked the tube situation because I find it so annoying to apply when I’m on the go—I don’t want to use my fingers to apply it when I’m on the subway! The new packaging makes it so much easier to use.

Every once in a while, I’m introduced to a product I should have tried a long time ago. This brow gel is one of those products. It conditions brows while it sweeps them into place, and the tint is just subtle enough to look incredibly natural without much fussing.

I guess I’m in my tinted-lip-balm era because I’ve been rotating between these and my Lawless lip balms. These ones pack on high-impact color, which is unique for a tinted lip balm.

Gourmand perfumes are so tricky. I hate when perfumes smell sickly sweet, and I also don’t want to smell too much like whatever food a fragrance is chasing. No one actually wants to walk around through everyday life smelling like a piece of cake. (Sorry if you do.) This is the ideal gourmand, in my opinion, because it captures the essence of one of those Italian sweets shops without being cloying. It’s like pistachio gelato, but with an almost menthol-y edge that keeps it interesting.

I have incredibly dry skin that’s prone to flaking, and in the winter, my normal night creams just don’t cut it. I’ve recently been topping my face cream with this face oil on days when I need an extra boost of moisture, and I’ve been waking up with plump, glowy, and moisturized skin.

Who knew a body wash could double as a spa experience? This exfoliating body wash from Tatcha makes my shower smell absolutely heavenly, and thanks to hinoki, it also makes me feel ultra relaxed and zen. The exfoliating beads are a nice addition, and my skin has felt impossibly soft ever since I started using it.

This cleanser contains antioxidant-rich cloudberry extract, PHAs, and encapsulated cellulose. Together, these ingredients cleanse, hydrate, and exfoliate my skin without causing any irritation. As someone who’s prone to redness, that’s pretty rare for me. I’ve been using it nonstop since I first tested it earlier this month.

At first glance, this is just an expensive moisturizer, but after using it, I can’t get enough. The lightweight formula hydrates my skin without pilling, leaving residue, or looking overly shiny. The formula is chock-full of antioxidants and peptides to brighten and repair the skin and prevent future signs of aging. I wrote a whole love letter to this brand earlier this month, and while I love all the products I’ve tried thus far, this one, in particular, has quickly become a mainstay in my daily skincare routine.

My cuticles have always been dry and super visible, which is why my favorite part of a manicure has historically been the cuticle-removal part. I’ve tried other cuticle oils and creams to no avail. This one soaks them in moisture and makes them look way less apparent than they would otherwise. I’ve been using it every night before bed, and I wake up in the morning with smooth, moisturized, and happy nails.

Over the past month, I’ve had the opportunity to try a number of amazing cream blushes; this one has to be my favorite. It’s highly pigmented and buildable, giving my skin the most radiant (yet natural-looking) flush of color. Kulfi celebrates South Asian beauty and does an amazing job of creating inclusive products that look good on all skin tones.

The hype is completely real about this thick and rich body moisturizer. I credit it with being the bodycare product that brought my dry skin back to life this winter. Not only does it give you all the hydration you could imagine without being sticky (it’s packed with seven moisturizing oils, shea butter, and glycerin), but it also leaves the most incredible shimmering sheen.

This one is another must-have product for anyone who suffers from dry skin once the cold weather hits. I began incorporating this serum into my bodycare routine a couple of weeks back and have been really happy with how hydrated and healthy my skin looks and feels. It also absorbs really quickly, leaving the skin soft to the touch.

I’ve been using this brow gel since last August, and it’s now my forever brow product. For a while, I’d been feeling like other tinted brow gels I owned were too dark and severe looking. It was also easy to accidentally go “out of the lines” and have to clean up the errant brown smudges. This brow gel is the antidote. As the name indicates, it’s a sheer tint, which means there’s more room for error with the application, and it creates a natural look that you can build on. The product’s creator—Kristie Streicher, who also happens to be L.A.’s most sought-after brow expert—compares the brow gel to sheer tights. To me, it feels like the more evolved tinted brow gel (no more severe brows!) that lets your brows be themselves, just subtly better.

This new launch from Dae is it! I’m in between hair appointments at the moment, and this is the only product keeping my blonde hair looking fresh and feeling hydrated. This is a must-buy for all my fellow blondies.

I’m always after the most natural-looking base, and this CCC cream has new holy-grail potential. It gives that “your skin but better” look and adds the most beautiful glow to my dull winter skin. I don’t rely on foundations to provide the level of sunscreen protection that my skin really needs, but having SPF 50 in this foundation is a welcomed bonus. My only note is that I would love to see a wider shade range.

This new launch from Current State has convinced me you don’t need to spend more than $20 on an eye cream. Rich with peptides and caffeine, it gives a luxurious feel and works well under my concealer. This is one of the first eye creams I’ve tried where my under-eyes look noticeably different post-application.

I recently added this skin illuminator to my skin-prep routine before applying makeup. It really plays into the underpainting trend that is everywhere on TikTok right now, and I love how it brings out an extra dose of glow. In the winter, I definitely need it. I’m also loving wearing it on days that I skip out on foundation for a light-coverage moment.

I’ve been raving about this product for over a year, but it just really never gets old. This past month, I’ve been loving it a little bit more than usual. My baking routine has become the highlight of my makeup routine these past few weeks, and I’ve really perfected the process. I’ve been applying it just above my jawline and on the side of my nose to emphasize my contour.

It’s very rare for me to run through an entire bottle of serum because I have so many that I like to play around with. However, I have been loving the StriVectin Super Shrink serum so much this month that I went through it like water. I’ve learned that the secret to a really amazing skincare routine is to use this product and follow it up with a hydrating serum—in my case, Hyaluronic Serum from Dr. Barbara Sturm and Lancer Ultra-Hydrating Serum. The result is the ultimate glow.

Another serum that I’ve been loving is Phloretin CF, which, in my opinion, is just like everyone’s favorite C E Ferulic but supercharged. I had it recommended to me by an esthetician at a facial as a way to upgrade my routine and have been obsessed ever since. The serum targets dark spots and is great for women with darker skin.

I’ve been highlighting my hair since I was 13, so you can imagine how many purple shampoos and conditioners I’ve tried. I can’t believe it took me this long to discover the Olaplex Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo. My hairstylist recommended it to me. She described it as intense and effective for combating brassiness—music to my ears—and I would have to agree. Plus, it’s just so pretty to look at in my shower.

If this ever gets discontinued, I will be writing a strongly worded letter to Natasha Denona herself. This is the eye and cheek palette of my dreams. I apply the shade Inner Corner all over my eyelids for an ultra-flattering sheen of what looks like tiny, glistening diamonds. The cream blush is like butter, and don’t even get me started on the champagne-colored highlighter.

Even on the darkest winter days, I never skip my face sunscreen, but body sunscreen… I need to work on that. I figured that this Coola sunscreen spray might incentivize me to apply SPF more often since I can easily spritz it on my legs, chest, and arms without the extra step of rubbing in a cream formula. I was right. Not only am I applying this more frequently, but I also love that it’s fragrance-free and has SPF 50.

I used to have so much fun with makeup, but over the years, I started going back to the basics. When I spotted this eyeliner, I couldn’t help but give it a try. To my surprise, It was easy to apply and left a beautiful cobalt pigment with little product needed. It didn’t add much time to my morning routine yet added a fun touch to my overall look. Plus, I couldn’t stop receiving compliments. If you’re on the lookout for an approachable way to spice up your makeup routine, give this $10 liner a try.

Glossier calls this a “puffer jacket” for your skin, and that is 100% correct. I have incredibly dry skin with my eczema flaring up in the wintertime. I go through tons of moisturizers, and this is one I’m going to continue purchasing when my skin is in need of some serious hydration. It is on the thicker side, so I would suggest using it only at nighttime if you have sensitive skin like me.

As of late, this chlorophyll water has been an exciting addition to my morning routine. The last time I heard about chlorophyll was in science class, but what I didn’t learn back then was that it has healing and detoxing benefits for the body. I squeeze a couple of dropperfuls into my glass of water and watch as the deep-green liquid dissolves. It has a mild earthy flavor that you barely taste, especially if you mix it with lemon. I know it’s doing so much good for my body, and it’s the perfect health-conscious way to start the day.

Simply put, this concealer has exceeded my expectations and confirmed my theory that Clinique is a highly reliable brand. It’s full coverage enough to brighten my under-eyes and blur imperfections, yet it’s lightweight and still has a natural finish. Plus, it has this cute built-in sponge that’s perfect for on-the-go touch-ups. There are 38 shades, so I recommend getting matched to find the perfect one for you.

Most teeth-whitening strips I’ve tried irritate my teeth and gums. But I struck gold when I found these. They only have eight enamel-safe ingredients that are gentle enough for my sensitive teeth but still give me the bright and sparkling pearly whites I want. I also love the minty fresh taste. Basically, these have made whitening my teeth not feel like a chore anymore.

This is the crème de la crème of lip balms. It goes on so silky smooth it’s unreal, and I’m still asking myself why it took me so long to try it. I love that it hydrates with natural emollients like shea and murumuru-seed butters and no unnecessary fillers. After I apply it, my lips are super soft and have a hint of mauve color since I went for Brown Sugar. It also tastes like sweet vanilla—yum! Needless to say, this will forever be a staple in my handbag.

This blush, bronzer, and skin tint hybrid is like no product I’ve ever tried before. I dab the peachy shade onto my cheeks and eyes, and it adds a natural warmth to the face–akin to that post-vacation glow. The formula also feels hydrating and blends out effortlessly thanks to ingredients like allantoin and hyaluronic acid. If you’re looking for a dewy, lit-from-within flush, look no further.

The next big Olympics esports competition will feature chess and Just Dance

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is taking its next steps into esports competitions, and it’s adding chess and Just Dance to the mix.

In June, the IOC will host Olympic Esports Week, which expands upon the Olympic Virtual Series it put on in 2021 with some new events. Like the Olympic Virtual Series, Olympic Esports Week will focus on virtual representations of physical activities. While that means you won’t see any Overwatch 2 gold medalists, the IOC is adding some entries to the lineup that adhere less to the traditional concept of “sport.”

New for Olympic Esports Week are archery, tennis, tae kwon do, Just Dance (Ubisoft’s hit dancing franchise), and chess, which will sit alongside returning competitions in motorsport (via G…

Olivia Rodrigo Wore the $75 Sneakers With a Cult Following in Hollywood

Singer Olivia Rodrigo didn’t single-handedly ignite our obsession with ’90s style, but we have to admit: her consistent and cool throwback looks made us wish that we’d hung on to a few iconic staples from the era. Fortunately, not all fads come and go. In fact, the few that demonstrate decade-lasting devotion tend to foster a cult following among fashion lovers of every persuasion.

Rodrigo was recently spotted wearing Vans Filmore High-Top sneakers with straight-leg jeans and an eye-catching green trench. While this look is super simple and easy to replicate, that’s exactly what gives Rodrigo’s style a cross-generational appeal. Plus, her exact sneakers are only $75, which makes this tried-and-true footwear staple easy enough to add to any wardrobe.

While there may be more expensive designer versions out there, we keep coming back to the OG canvas design. And the Hollywood set agrees: Affordable black and white Vans have also been spotted on everyone from Rihanna to Hailey Bieber.

Since the Vans brand first debuted in 1966 as a shoe for skateboarders, it has continued to evolve and push its design while maintaining its classic, cult-favorite styles, too. Ahead, shop 12 pairs of black and white Vans that are about to become your go-to sneakers.

Off the wall, right?

On Rihanna: Vans Old Skool Sneakers

On Hailey Bieber: Vans Old Skool Sneakers

On Kim Kardashian: Vans Old Skool Sneakers

On Candice Swanepoel: Vans SK8 Sneakers

Stick with the basics, and you’ll never go wrong.

The Filmore comes in several of Vans’ signature prints, but we’re partial to the classic black-and-white checkers.

This special edition bandana version is cute, too.

Fashion editors swear by Vans platforms, especially when running between market appointments.

Another platform worthy of regular wear.

The same vibe, but in chic suede.

Designer brands have replicated this iconic Vans style at three times the price.

Perforated leather always looks more luxe.

Vans call their chunky soles “stackforms,” not platforms.

A classic checkerboard goes with everything.

Basically fuzzy slippers but with curb appeal.

I’m 23, and My Mom Is 60—We Both Went Viral on TikTok for Wearing These 4 Trends

When I see someone with great style on TikTok, I automatically hit follow. A great dose of inspiration is always much needed, and I’d like to remain on the fashion side of the algorithm where I belong. On one of my recent scrolls, I saw not one but two well-dressed women grace my page. The mother-daughter duo, Sasha and Therese, have gone viral over and over again by wearing the same outfit. Sasha showcases her style, and her mother follows, showing that even the most risqué trends—sometimes as daring as low-rise—aren’t as unapproachable as many of us may think.

I had to get in touch with this fabulous duo off-camera so that I could get a better idea of what trends they actually both approve of. The results came in, and as a fashion editor, I can confirm that they are spot-on. If Sasha and her mom are wearing something, I’m right there with them. Below, find the four trends that they’ll both be wearing this summer and well into fall.

“We can’t forget the classic matching set. Whether it be a white top and skirt or a long silky shirt and matching pants, it always looks so effortless.” — Sasha

A matching set that I think everyone should own.

Now this is fun.

I’m all over a striped separates moment.

Did someone say ballerinacore?

For the romantics.

Ok, I’m ready for summer.

“A trend we are loving right now is midi dresses. We love the versatility of them. (You can dress them up and down.)” — Therese

We love a cottagecore moment.

The H&M dresses sell out fast so get on it.

Forever a wardrobe staple.

I’m so into this for a beach day.

This is inspiring me to book a flight.

Everything.

Just the right number of cutouts.

“Anything and everything low-rise are definitely my go-to at the moment—miniskirts, jeans, and even shorts.” — Sasha

A classic denim silhouette.

So here for this.

I have a big crush on these pants.

When you’re done with the aforementioned midi dress, try this skirt.

How good are these pants?

Chef’s kiss.

I would have so much fun styling this for a night out.

“Strapless dresses have become prominent in our closets lately.” — Sasha

Doesn’t this make you want to go to the beach?

Strapless everything.

I have this dress and can confirm it’s amazing.

I’d wear this all year round to every soirée I can get invited to.

Matching with the ocean.

It’s the subtle texture for me.

The 12 Spring Micro-Trends That are Altering My Brain Chemistry

Here at Who What Wear, we focus a lot of our energy on the biggest trends of the season, and while we’ll never stop covering the heavy hitters, there are several micro-trends worthy of honorary mentions. These aren’t making major style moves yet, but we firmly believe that it’s only a matter of time until they graduate from micro to macro or, in other words, from niche to mainstream.

After hours of studying the runways and, of course, online shopping (all in the name of research!), we’re sharing the micro-trends on my radar at the moment. We’ve spotted these pieces on the feeds of the most influential women we know and stocked at several key retailers, which tells me that each is on the brink of becoming huge. Keep reading for fashion’s most exciting micro-trends of spring 2023, from the silver jeans we raced to order after seeing the recent runways at NYFW to the cheap but impactful red tights that have all our editors in a tizzy.

Delicate bows are the small detail that’s having a major impact on style this season. Whether they’re adorning a dress like this Mirror Palais stunner or styled as hair accessories like they were on Sandy Liang models, pretty little bows are the micro-trend that’s winning over our hearts (and carts) right now.

Goodbye, mini skirts. Hello, balloon skirts! Full-volume midi skirts are the fresh style our editors can’t stop talking about (and trying out IRL) and because the tides have leaned so skimpy recently, the arrival of these retro ’50s-inspired styles feels especially fresh. Just last week, Prada sent several looks down its fall/winter 2023 runway that featured full skirts, solidifying them as the style to know now.

Last fall, Bottega Veneta’s Drop Earrings just about lit the internet on fire with their oversize, elongated shape and celebrity buy-in. Now, designers high and low are sending out similarly oversized studs and the options have never been cooler (or more accessible, for that matter).

What do French girls, Chanel, and J.Crew have in common? None other than this latest micro-trend, which is easily spring’s chicest. Whether it’s via a simple tank top or bouclé jacket, black-and-white contrast stitching is the classic detail we’re suddenly spotting everywhere and luckily for our wallets, even the lowest price points rival the highest.

Metallics have officially reached a fever pitch, with high-shine accessories selling at the speed of light these days. Well, let me introduce you to everyone’s next obsession: metallic jeans. Proenza Schouler and Gabriela Hearst both showed styles during NYFW last month and they immediately caught my attention for their oddly low-key feel, especially when styled with wardrobe mainstays like blazers and ankle boots. Ever since then, I’ve spent hours researching the best pairs to shop now.

When it comes to jewelry, the coolest insiders are favoring sculptural styles with organic shapes. Standout pieces include Tiffany and Co.’s Bean Clutch which was created in collaboration with Elsa Peretti and the sculpted cord pendant from NYC favorite Agmes.

If you read our stories on the regular here or even follow some of us on Instagram, you’d already be aware that our editors are collectively going through a big red phase (backed by the runways, of course). A pop of red is our styling of choice and above all, a pair of opaque tights in shocking chili-pepper red is the item that has our full buy-in. Wearing them with your pretty dresses might just be the savviest way to weather the awkward transition from winter to spring.

As someone who bought way into the off-the-shoulder trend in 2016, I was surprised to see it bubble up again this season. Sure enough, the pretty collarbone-framing style is undergoing a resurgence but this time it’s in the form of sleek styles thanks to “cool girl” brands Khaite and Tor Burch who are behind 2023’s push.

Let me introduce you to the cheap drugstore accessory that can transform your whole outfit. Wide elastic headbands inspired by the ones Brigitte Bardot was famous for wearing with her high-volume hair bring a cool touch to just about anything—this $7 four-pack on Amazon is a relatively microscopic investment.

Some micro-trends seemingly pop up out of nowhere while others take a minute to fully develop. The latter is true for menswear ties, a detail we spotted in Louis Vuitton’s fall/winter 2022 collection exactly a year ago and have been patiently waiting for fashion people to adopt ever since. Well, the time has finally come and the looks we’re spotting in our social media feeds featuring tailored suits and button-downs with ties were definitely worth the wait.

With all things retro on being fashion’s guiding force these days, the latest piece of the throwback movement has just arrived: corduroy. In rich chocolate brown and even vibrant fuchsia, we’re spotting some of spring’s coolest tailoring in the ’70s texture, especially this standout skirt suit from Helsa Studio.

Who could forget the micro miniskirts that had such a chokehold on us last spring? If, like us, you were invested in the Miu Miu-inspired style, consider this styling idea to be your fast-track to making the ultra-short hemlines, well, actually wearable. Fashion’s experimental crowd has been wearing their miniskirts layered over jeans and trousers and the look was mirrored in Fendi’s fall/winter collection as well, solidifying its impact in our minds.

Up next, see the items French women are removing from their closets in 2023.

Vanessa Bryant, L.A. County Settle Lawsuit Over Crash Photos

The agreement ended several years of legal proceedings regarding the helicopter crash in the hills of Calabasas, Calif., in January 2020.

Vanessa Bryant received nearly $29 million in an agreement with Los Angeles County to resolve a lawsuit about photos that were captured of the 2020 helicopter crash that killed her husband, the late Lakers star Kobe Bryant, and her daughter Gianna and seven others.

The agreement ended several years of legal proceedings regarding the helicopter crash that took place in the hills of Calabasas, Calif., on Jan. 26, 2020.

The news of Tuesday’s agreement comes after a federal jury mandated last August—following an 11-day trial—that Los Angeles County pay Bryant $16 million for the “emotional distress” caused by the county’s deputies and firefighters sharing grim photos of the disfigured bodies involved in the helicopter crash. The $16 million for Bryant was also included in Tuesday’s settlement.

David Butler II/USA TODAY Sports

Kobe Bryant, a five-time NBA champion and member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, was traveling with Gianna and seven others to a youth basketball game when the helicopter crashed.

Luis Li, Bryant’s attorney, told CNN in a statement that the resolution marked the end of her “courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in the “grotesque conduct” of capturing the images from the crash.

“She [Vanessa] fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased family were treated with similar disrespect,” the statement read. “We hope her victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice.”

While the pictures were primarily disseminated among the two county factions, they were also seen by some of their spouses as well as one bartender at a bar where a deputy was drinking, according to the Associated Press. Beyond the emotional distress, Bryant and her co-plaintiff Christopher Chester—whose wife and daughter were killed in the crash—also claimed that the photos violated their privacy. Chester received $19,950,000 in Tuesday’s agreement. Bryant’s youngest daughters, Bianka and Capri, were also named in the lawsuit.

Mira Hashmall, the head lawyer representing the county, described the settlement as “fair and reasonable.”

“The $28,850,000 settlement includes the verdict awarded by the federal jury in August 2022, and further resolves all outstanding issues related to pending legal claims in state court, future claims by the Bryant children, and other costs, with each party responsible for its respective attorneys’ fees,” Hashmall said in a statement.

We Rigorously Tested 13 of the “Best” BB Creams—These 8 Passed

Welcome to Deep Reviews—your one-stop destination to discover the absolute best products and brands the beauty industry has to offer. The Who What Wear staffers you already know and trust will research, test, and review the market’s most sought-after and buzzed-about products to see which formulas (of the hundreds up for consideration) are truly worth your hard-earned money and attention. You can expect honest, completely uncensored feedback and no-BS recommendations our hard-to-please testers endorse without reservations.

Sometimes, wearing a full-coverage foundation feels like putting on a latex mask. And on the flip side, going totally bare-faced can feel daunting. For days when both sides of the spectrum feel impossible, it’s best to reach for a base product with flexible coverage that feels breathable and maybe even skincare-adjacent. That’s where BB creams come in.

BB creams are the perfect solution for skin-blurring, even-toned coverage that looks—and feels!—like your skin. Unfortunately, finding the right BB cream can quickly devolve into a Goldilocks and the Three Bears situation. You want a formula that has enough coverage (but not too much), feels hydrating (but not oily), and stays on all day (but doesn’t mattify). Basically, we want BB creams to do the most. We tried 13 BB creams and picked the top eight. Keep reading for our favorite BB creams and why we loved them, plus info on our rigorous testing process and insight from a celebrity makeup artist on everything you ever wanted to know about BB cream.

“To me, the formula is about as perfect as a tinted moisturizer can get. There’s no funky scent or heavy oily consistency, and it just blends into my skin so seamlessly without drying it out or making it break out. I can wear it every single day (and honestly do) and my skin is actually better for it. I’ve actually already been using this product for two or three years now, and it’s my holy grail. I love how seamlessly it glides on, and it blends flawlessly. The formula is just right for my skin so it never feels dry or flaky or, on the flip side, oily or heavy, like so many other BB creams I’ve tried have done. It also works as a wonderful base to makeup, and my cream blush, concealer, and bronzer all blend in well on top.” — Anna LaPlaca, Editor

“I have used many, many BB creams in my day, and I can honestly say that none have ever held up better than this tinted moisturizer from Chantecaille. I don’t know how they do it, but it genuinely looks like an eighth layer of skin—you can’t even tell you’re wearing any base makeup at all with this product, which is genuinely impressive. It does come with a steep price tag, but if there’s anything you’re considering splurging on, this is truly, truly worth every penny. The finish is dewy but not shiny, and it never pills over my skincare and sunscreen. Truly the holy grail.” — Katie Berohn, Beauty Editor

“Since I was test-driving this BB cream throughout New York Fashion Week, I knew I needed lightweight, long-lasting coverage for running around the city and being photographed. Lightweight and long-lasting usually don’t go hand-in-hand, so I was skeptical at best. But shockingly, Covergirl blew me out of the water. It settled on my skin flawlessly and gave me a radiant, skin-like finish. I’ll admit I was having much better skin days at the start of fashion week than at the end, so my first reactions were that it was incredible. Toward the end of the week, I was itching to get it off since my skin was starting to break out (too many slices of stress pizza will do that to you!), but sans textured skin or acne, it looked incredible. Given how low-cost the CG BB cream is, I’d recommend everyone try it out at least once—at worst, you’re out the price of a latte in New York. At best, you’ve found an affordable formula that you can wear without worrying about cost per wear.” — Ana Escalante, Assistant Shopping Editor

“This is the product I use daily, and I absolutely love it. Prior to trying it, I never used a tinted moisturizer or BB cream and just kind of went with whatever my skin looked like. From a product like this, I’ve only ever really wanted a dewy, barely there layer of coverage that looks like skin, and that’s exactly what this product provides. I’ve already bought it at least five times and will continue to for years to come unless they reformulate. It’s something I put on every single day and genuinely adore. I think if anyone’s looking for super lightweight, barely there coverage that still provides you with a glowy, fresh look, this is a great product for them to try. It’s much dewier and more natural looking than most BB creams I’ve tried. It also acts as a better base for makeup than I’m used to.” —Eliza Huber, Editor

“It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It glided onto my skin with ease, gave me a nice glow, and evened out most of my discoloration. I usually still go in with concealer for my under-eye area while using any BB cream, but I’d be okay with just applying this if I just wanted just a little something. Other BB creams either feel like they do absolutely nothing or they’re too close to a foundation. I think this product found that sweet spot right in the middle. And as someone with dry skin, I’ve had the issue of other creams cling to my dry patches and make my skin look even more dry, no matter how I moisturize. This makes it look like I have dewy and healthy skin, which I love.” — Yusra Siddiqui, Associate Editor

“As someone who typically shies away from skin tints or BB creams in fear of looking too oily or not having enough coverage, I was surprisingly excited to try this one from Fenty. I see a ton of content creators using this product, and it has pretty rave reviews from people of all skin tones and skin types. I was hoping for the glowy finish that I see all over my For You page. My biggest hope was for my skin to look like skin. It definitely met my expectations in terms of glow and finish, but I found that the product had such a red undertone that I looked a bit orange immediately after application. After a while, it oxidized and the match felt right, but if I were going to take a selfie immediately after finishing my makeup (like I normally would), I might look a little orange. I will definitely use this product for those light-makeup days. It gives just enough coverage where I feel like my skin can breathe while my blemishes are concealed. It’s super lightweight and perfect for those days when I’m running errands, hopping on a virtual meeting, or heading to lunch. I love that it’s available in so many different shades.” — Aniyah Morinia, Associate Editor, Branded Content

“The shade match process got me the correct shade on the first try. Since BB creams usually have limited shade options, I was so impressed that this one offered up to 25 options. It blended super easily and had the best coverage, while still being lightweight, of the other products that I tried. My mom has been looking for a new tinted moisturizer, and I’ve already pointed her in Fenty’s direction. It reminds me of a step back from my favorite natural finish foundation. That’s a huge compliment, by the way.” — Sierra Mayhew, Associate Editor

“Even though it met me at a rough time, it delivered. I was quite tired during fashion week after a late night and tried it in the midst of all the craziness. It is important to note that the shade range was impressive, and I loved seeing that it brought color to my skin and revitalized me after a rough night. While many BB creams disappear into my skin, this one sticks around with great coverage for a tinted product.” — Mayhew

“My skin truly looked impeccable after application, but during the process of blending it out, the cream was literally white. It changes color as the product is blended out, so it’s safe to say I had quite the jumpscare when the shade didn’t match. After giving it about five minutes, it magically matched my skin and had the most flawless finish. The product is silky smooth and blended in super naturally. It accentuates my natural features without covering too much or too little. I love that this has SPF 30 in it. I’m a huge fan of this product and would happily repurchase it. I will 1000% be keeping this product in my routine. It’s lightweight, easy to apply, protective, and surprisingly doesn’t transfer. I don’t feel like I need additional products to have a flawless base when I’m wearing this. It’s truly everything I’ve been looking for in a skin tint or BB cream. It’s light, slightly dewy, breathable, and creates a nice satin finish.” — Morinia

“There are three things I always look for in a BB Cream: sheer coverage, glowy finish, and blends well with the rest of my makeup routine. So far, we’ve hit the trifecta with the Cle CCC Cream. It brings such a healthy glow to my dull winter skin and feels weightless. After wearing all day long, the coverage has stayed intact with no powdering involved. Other glowy tinted moisturizers I’ve tried tend to transfer easily and wear off throughout the day. If you like decent coverage but hate the feeling of foundation, you need to try this product.” — Natalie Gray Herder, Associate Editor, Branded Content

“Unfortunately, I think my shade was a bit too light, making the product look a bit off on me. Apart from that, though, I actually think very highly of this product. It’s super natural and clean, making it good for sensitive skin like mine, and I love that it’s SPF 50, which is rare in a BB cream. I like how skin-like this product is and that it gives a subtle, realistic glow. My only other qualm is that I think it doesn’t give as glowy a result as I prefer. I probably won’t use it every day, but I think if I got a darker shade, it’d be great for the summer, when I need a daily higher SPF. It’s a great item to keep in your pool or beach bag when you want a bit of tint. I think it’s great for someone with sensitive skin who wants something natural and skin-like. It’s different from other similar products in that when it comes out of the bottle, it’s not colored, and it doesn’t change color until it makes contact with your skin. It has a little bit of a white cast, which is something I wouldn’t want daily, but I wouldn’t mind it at all if I was going to lay in the sun.” — Huber

“It’s definitely heavier than a lot of other tinted sunscreens on the market, and if you’re looking for more payoff and coverage without resorting to a thicker foundation-type product, it’s great. For people who prefer more lightweight formulas for their BB creams or with oily skin, I’d recommend something else. It’ll become my new non-foundation foundation.” — Escalante

“I have been using this product for a couple of years now, and it’s one of my go-to base products, particularly in the summer when I don’t feel like wearing foundation and want an extra boost of SPF over my face sunscreen. (Always remember base products with sunscreen never have all the SPF you need to stay protected.) This tinted moisturizer applies so easily and looks incredibly smooth on skin while giving you a juicy, skin-like finish. My only qualm with this formula is sometimes I find the finish a little too dewy—it can border on glossy.” — Berohn

“Believe it or not, this is the first BB cream I ever used. I never used to wear base makeup at all through high school and college (save for some concealer under my eyes and to cover any blemishes). In the summer of 2016, I wanted to try something with a bit of extra coverage. I was interning in New York City, and I was also broke. I went to Duane Reade and picked up the cheapest BB cream I could find, and it ended up being this one. I personally love the formula and always have—it is a really solid drugstore find that blurs and evens skin and leaves you with a radiant finish. My only qualm is that I found the shade to be a bit too dark and warm-toned for my skin, but it blends out enough to not be noticeable. I recommend applying this one with a brush for the most flawless finish. I wore this to dinner with my friends a few weeks ago for the first time since 2016 and got so many compliments on my skin—might be time for me to break this baby out of retirement.” — Berohn

“It got the job done, and it’s decent for its affordable price, but I wouldn’t reach for it on the daily. While it felt fairly lightweight on my skin, it did have a noticeable sunscreen scent that put me off, and it tended to pill when I blended it in. I just used my fingers like I do with other makeup products, but maybe it would have blended better with a brush or makeup sponge. I wouldn’t want to use it as a key part of my everyday routine because the sunscreen scent bothered me, and it felt too oily on my skin for my liking. I’d be nervous everyday use would make me break out. It holds up for being a drugstore find.” — LaPlaca

To get the lowdown on all things BB cream, I reached out to celebrity makeup artist Renée Loiz who’s clients are Quinta Brunson, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Cynthia Erivo, Jaylon Barron, and Vanessa Rubio. Essentially, BB cream really is a do-it-all product—it’s moisturizer, primer, and foundation all in one. “[It’s] sort of like an all in one product that helps to hydrate, smooth fine lines, and brighten the skin,” Loiz says.

There are plenty of ways to apply BB creams. “You can apply like a moisturizer with your fingers, use a makeup brush, or a beauty sponge,” says Loiz. “I personally prefer to use a beauty sponge, as I feel I use the least product this way and get a seamless finish.”

Think of CC creams as a step above a BB cream—they share all the same benefits, but CC creams have the extra benefit of color-correcting added in. “Also, a CC cream is a much thicker formula and has more coverage than BB cream,” says Loiz.

A tinted moisturizer is the simplest of the three but still shares many similarities to BB cream. “A tinted moisturizer is a moisturizer and foundation mixed together,” says Loiz. “[It] has a very sheer coverage and usually no added skincare benefits.” When it comes to product names, the terms can be pretty interchangeable, which is why you’ll see some products labeled “CC cream” and “tinted moisturizer” on this list.

First, Loiz recommends looking for a BB cream with a wide-coverage range. After that, she recommends looking for BB creams that boast hydrating and skin-blurring benefits. With Loiz’s expertise in mind, I combed through 51 BB creams that had made other publications’ “best-of” lists, and landed on 13 formulas for our editors to test. From those, we chose and ranked the top eight based on coverage, blendability, finish, shade range, wear time, and more.
