You now have to pay to use Pantone colors in Adobe products

Pantone Color Books now require a paid subscription for Adobe products, with even old PSD files now displaying black in place of used Pantone colors. | Image: Adobe

Last week, Adobe removed support for free Pantone colors across its Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator Creative Cloud applications. PSD files that contained Pantone spot colors now display unwanted black in their place, forcing creatives who need access to the industry-standard color books to pay for a plugin subscription (via Kotaku).

“As we had shared in June, Pantone decided to change its business model. Some of the Pantone Color Books that are pre-loaded in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign were phased-out from future software updates in August 2022,” said Erin Di Leva, Public Relations Manager for Adobe in a statement to The Verge. “To access the complete set of Pantone Color Books, Pantone now requires customers to…

Chicken Cock Whiskey Drops Prohibition-Style, Cognac Barrel-Aged Bourbon

Chicken Cock Whiskey

The best bourbons on the market naturally carry the weight of history behind it, from how the liquid is made and aged to how it’s delivered, and the clever distillers at Chicken Cock Whiskey have managed to shake up the barnyard and your bar cart with its newest release.

Chicken Cock Whiskey

The story of Chicken Cock Whiskey, after all, dates back to 1856 and is so named thanks to an original Bluegrass regional whiskey style.

Now, the new, nearly $500 Chanticleer Cognac Barrel Whiskey quite literally blends the past and the present in a way that’s sure to please bourbon enthusiasts.

Chicken Cock Whiskey

It was a 2011 revival that jumpstarted the historic brand once again, and the latest release distills that history handsomely, right down to the limited-edition, Prohibition-style tin nodding to the way in which whiskey was smuggled across state lines decades ago.

Chicken Cock Whiskey

Most famously, Chicken Cock was the house whiskey of The Cotton Club in Harlem, and the rest (you might say) is history.

Although a 1950s fire shuttered the company for decades, spirits entrepreneur Matti Anttila revived the brand in the early 2010s, a revival that lends itself nicely to popular expressions like its Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rye.

Chicken Cock Whiskey

The luxurious holiday release — developed in partnership with Bardstown Bourbon Company — hits the right notes in terms of aesthetics and of course, the liquid contained within.

The cognac-aging process nods to the company’s original home in Paris, Kentucky (named after Paris, France, naturally), as well as the historical roots of Bourbon County (derived from the French Bourbon family).

Chicken Cock Whiskey

Chanticleer is delivered in a pleasing, historical apothecary-style bottle, displaying the handsome mahogany leather color of this whiskey, which bursts with notes of vanilla, cherry, softened plums and candied dates.

Savor notes of melted butter and hot caramelized sugar on the finish, and enjoy this warming whiskey on a cold winter’s night this holiday season (preferably in the company of fellow whiskey fans).

Available for nearly $500 at both Chicken Cock and Caskers, think of this luxe bourbon like the ultimate early holiday gift for the history — or better yet, yourself.

Sony’s new PlayStation Plus subscriptions are off to a rocky start

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

The number of people subscribing to Sony’s PlayStation Plus fell from 47.3 million to 45.4 million this quarter, the company announced in its latest earnings release. It’s the subscription service’s third quarterly decline in a row, and comes despite Sony launching a revamped subscription lineup between May and June this year including new tiers that offer inclusive access to hundreds of games to download and stream.

Sony has now sold 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles in total as of this quarter, VGC notes. It sold 3.3 million PS5 consoles between July and September 30th, which is the same number it sold in the same quarter the previous year. It sold 62.5 million physical copies of games, a reduction of almost 20 percent compared to the…

Dad Grass Spreads Into CBD Gummy Space With 3 New Styles

(Dad Grass)

Dad Grass—best known for its decidedly mellow CBD joints and retro-style packaging—is taking a bite out of the CBD edibles space with a new line of gummies.

The laid-back brand–which recently launched CBD-spiked Dog Bones to mellow out panicky pups– dropped three new categories of CBD gummies, available beginning November 1.

The line is anchored by the Classic CBD Formula gummy with a sugary, blackberry ginger flavor is meant for daily use for those who want help in reducing “stress, anxiety, pain and inflammation.”

There’s also a Good Time CBD/CBG Hybrid Formula that is slightly stronger because of the CBG infusion, which Dad Grass describes as “great for recovery from hangovers to jet lag” and comes in a sweetened hibiscus lime flavor.

(Dad Grass)

And finally, the brand dropped a “midnight berry”-flavored Nighttime CBN Formula that’s meant to be taken before bed to go to sleep faster.

All three Dad Grass gummies are formulated from the same 100 percent Organic hemp flower that Dad Grass uses in their “all natural” joints, which are high in the helpful cannabinoids CBD, CBG and CBN.

(Dad Grass)

Earlier this year, Dad Grass released a special edition CBD/CBG “All Things Must Grass” pre-rolled joint pack, celebrating the 50th anniversary of George Harrison’s classic album, All Things Must Pass.

Bella Hadid Has Major Influence—7 Trends She’s Made Famous This Year

There’s no denying Bella Hadid’s influence on fashion, especially in 2022. Not only did she walk 10 shows in Paris Fashion Week alone (Balenciaga, Victoria Beckham, and Miu Miu to name a few), but anything she wears is also quick to make it to the masses. The internet has even coined the term “Bella Bots” to describe those who follow Hadid’s every sartorial move. The model revealed earlier this year that she had made the decision to go sans stylist, and it seems to have worked in her favor ever since.

Her outfits always have a touch of nostalgia, ranging from early-aughts vintage to classic ’90s-inspired pieces. She’s also not one to walk away from taking a risk, often picking the trends the majority might find polarizing like long denim jorts or ultra-cropped tops. You never know what you’re going to expect from Hadid’s next outfit, and it’s a surprise we always look forward to.

Hadid has had plenty of viral moments in 2022 like the spray-paint moment at Coperni or her humorous The Office–obsessed character in Ramy season 2, but it’s the standout trends she’s been wearing this year that have really grasped our attention. Below, you’ll find seven trends she’s inspired us to give a try. And in no way did Bella Hadid invent the trends below, but her looks certainly had an impact on those who keep up with her style. Keep scrolling to be inspired and get ready to say “So… my… name… my name is Bella Hadid.”

Remember the denim skirts every celebrity wore to the red carpet in the early 2000s? Well, they’re back, and Bella Hadid has become an avid wearer of the style. While they might seem tricky to wear at first, you’ll be surprised at how much you will gravitate toward them.

What once was known as the shoes one would wear to soccer practice have become the ultimate It sneakers. Once Hadid was spotted in the style, it immediately became challenging to find the shoe in stock. (Turn on alerts and you might get lucky—patience is a virtue.)

Vintage-style track and collegiate jackets have been growing in popularity for a while now, and Hadid has only added to the momentum.

When Ugg first released the platform boots, we were surprised to see the lack of attention draw their way. And sure enough, Hadid stepped out in them and they quickly sold out in every color. (The Bella Bots move fast.)

You’ve seen this accessory trend on the runway at Miu Miu, but Hadid has been taking it to street style. Out of all the trends the model has championed, this one has to be the easiest to re-create.

Midi skirts are not a “new” trend by any means, but there’s something about the way Hadid’s been layering them this fall that makes you want to quickly throw one on.

There have been conversations among the fashion set on whether Bermuda shorts are actually back, but a quick scroll on TikTok will tell you otherwise. The most popular way to wear them is just how Hadid has above: with a pair of tall boots.

The Under-$13 Lip Plumpers I Always Recommend to Friends Who Don’t Want Filler

I freaking love lip filler. There, I said it! I first dipped my toe into the injection pool a few years ago and have maintained a firm footing in said pool ever since. Even though the topic of filler and injectables (or, at least, if people are getting them) remains a tad taboo, I’ve always been a staunch believer in transparency, and while some people might not feel comfortable admitting to what they have or haven’t gotten done, I’m here to say that my lips are juiced up and I plan on keeping them that way until further notice, thank you very much!

That said, filler isn’t for everyone, and I know plenty of people who simply aren’t interested or can’t afford the treatment and/or upkeep. (It’s a steep investment, after all!) Luckily for us, the makeup industry has really been kicking it up a notch in the innovation department the past few years and some of the most effective lip plumpers boast drugstore-level price tags. Not everyone is looking for plumper lips, but if you’re someone who is craving an extra injection of volume sans filler, you’ve come to the right place. Below, I’m sharing five of the absolute best lip plumpers that A) can be found at the drugstore or B) boast drugstore-affordable price points. Plus, because I feel so passionately about the subject, I’ve gone ahead and added the products that will further enhance your pout, and I even tacked on a few of my favorite, albeit more splurge-y, lip plumpers at the end of the article. Keep scrolling!

Okay, I’m cheating. Sephora is not a drugstore, but the retailer’s eponymous line of products is stellar in both price and efficacy. Therefore, I simply couldn’t not add this 15/10 lip plumper to my list. And honestly, the array of colors are so stunning I’d buy them all even if they didn’t have supersonic plumping powers. Did I mention that all Sephora Collection products are a whopping 20% off through November 7 during their annual Holiday Savings Event? (Yep, go shop the eff out of that!)

Sheer and shimmery, this top-rated drugstore lip plumper from Nyx offers a flattering, photo-worthy finish thanks to a powerful punch of light-reflecting emollients.

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I know for a fact that professional makeup artists (who have access to literally everything) use this zippy little tube of plumping goodness on shoots and sets. Plus, since it’s enriched with lush ingredients like hyaluronic acid, your pout will get a nice dose of long-lasting hydration to boot.

Not all lip plumpers come in tons of shades to choose from, so I appreciate that this mildly tingly formula from E.l.f. provides ten enticing options for every mood and setting. The tube even contains nurturing ingredients like vitamin E and coconut oil so you can gift lips with some TLC they’ll appreciate.

If you were to swipe on this luxurious lip plumper blindfolded, I promise you’d think it’s five times the actual price. I can’t stand sticky finishes, so this addictively cooling formula is naturally one of my all-time faves. The mix of shiny polymers, chap-proofing oils, and moisturizing hyaluronic acid complete its A+ ingredient profile.

If your budget has a little more bandwidth, I can’t recommend this multi-tasking lip product enough. It’s spiked with SPF, it gives megawatt shine that’s not too sticky, and it’s the best plumping formula I’ve ever laid my lips on. Seriously, the results rival actual lip injections, which isn’t all too surprising since Dr. Lara Devgan is a world-renowned plastic surgeon. This is one of my favorite beauty products of all time, and I use it every damn day.

It doesn’t get more luxurious than La Mer, baby. But it will cost you! This lip plumper is definitely an investment, but if it makes you feel any better, a little goes a long way, and it’s worth every penny. (IMHO) Subtly volumizing, this is one I’ll layer both under and over other lip products for the most pillowy and defined lip look. It actually acts as a serum and contains the brand’s signature hero ingredient, Miracle Broth, alongside other luxe ingredients like antioxidant-charged lime tea concentrate and its Plumping Renenealy Complex, which has marine ingredients and nutrient-rich minerals to support long-term natural collagen production.

Buxom is such an OG when it comes to lip plumpers, and this particular formula is a go-to I’ve used for years and years. There’s a variety of finishes you can choose from, the colors are beautiful, and the unique peptide complex creates noticeable volume, while vitamins A and E keep your pout topped up with hydration. (A must for soft, pillowy lips!)

Is there a more iconic lip plumper? I firmly believe Dior’s Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss should be on everyone’s beauty bucket list and most recently, I’ve been eyeing this peppy shade for my growing collection.

I have an unhealthy addiction to this particular plumping gloss in this particular shade. As the name suggests, it brings the heat in terms of the perfect ratio of volume and that “just bitten” touch of color everyone craves.

Charlotte Tilbury is the queen of all things lip, and not surprisingly she has some amazing lip plumping elixirs up her sleeve. I’m partial to this epic gloss which, of course, I love to apply over my CT liners and lippies for a next-level plumping effect.

I’m pretty sure Too Faced’s iconic lip plumper was the first lip-plumping product I owned (pre-beauty editor career!), and honestly, I think it’s still one of the best I’ve ever used. I love keeping this duo on hand at all times, so I can match my hue (they’re super sheer!) to whatever my mood is doing that day. These are a goldmine if you’re after that bee-stung look but want it from a tube and not a syringe!

This Unexpected Note Is Found in 11 of the Most Romantic Perfumes

What’s the most romantic note in a perfume? If I were to answer that question, your mind might immediately go to the classics, like rose, jasmine, or vanilla. There’s a perfume note steeped in romance that you might not immediately think of, though, and that’s violet.

In perfume, violets lend a soft femininity to practically any scent. These flowers are sweet, floral, and have a slightly powdery quality. Violet leaf is also often used in fragrance to add a burst of green brightness. This floral is endlessly versatile, working with just about every scent combination. Keep reading for the most romantic-smelling violet-tinged fragrances on the market.

Key Notes: Ambrette, Jamaican nesberry, violet, sandalwood, magnolia, chantilly musk, crisp amber, cedar. This woodsy fragrance is a tribute to the elusive Mojave Ghost flower, a rare flower that manages to flourish in the Mojave desert. The resulting fragrance is absolutely magnetic.

Key Notes: Grapefruit, violet, rose, iris, raspberry, vanilla, white musk. A blend of florals, fruits, vanilla, and musk makes this fragrance incredibly alluring. Created by Ralph Schwieger, this perfume is meant to pay homage to the scent he remembers from the lipstick his mother used to wear. Feminine, glamorous, and reminiscent of Old Hollywood, this scent is incredibly bewitching.

Key Notes: Honey, rum, orchid. Consider this a feminine twist on Tom Ford’s heady black orchid scent. It has just the right touch of sweetness.

Key Notes: Rhubarb, bergamot, black pepper, violet, black tea, tobacco leaves, incense, orris, white birch, tanned leather, smoked papyrus. This unique scent is the perfect combination of smoke and florals. Romantic notes like violet work in tandem with sharper notes like tobacco and smoked papyrus for an unexpected fragrance.

Key Notes: Rose damascena, pink pepper, jasmine, mandarin, violet leaves, woody oakmoss, white musk. Come springtime, you can smell this scent in just about every corner of New York City. It’s hopeful, romantic, and the perfect scent for new beginnings.

Key Notes: Violet leaf, neroli, petitgrain, freesia, jasmine, vanilla, coco musk, sandalwood. In this fragrance, violet is used as a flash of brightness thanks to its leaves. It’s both zesty and woody with a hint of florals to round it out.

Key fragrance notes: violet, lily of the valley, cedar, gardenia, amber, sandalwood. Filled with bright floral notes and woodsy undertones, this violet-centric perfume is like breathing in fresh mountain air.

Key notes: violet, musks, iris. This is a perfume that’s truly made for violet lovers. Designed to encapsulate the flower, it’s incredibly romantic and soft.

Key Notes: Lemon, scarlet velvet rose, honeycomb, violet leaves. This perfume is meant to encapsulate modern romance. While roses are the main attraction, violet leaves add a green note that balances out all the floral notes.

Key Notes: Red and dark berries, jasmine, violet, amber, musk. Burberry Her has a reputation for being one of the most romantic perfumes out there. With berries, florals, amber, and musk, it hits all the right notes.

Key Notes: Bergamot, yuzu, violet leaves, jasmine, neroli, elemi, vetiver, musk. When it comes to this bright, citrus-centric fragrance, one word comes to mind: effervescent. Consider this the champagne pop of perfumes.

’90s Minimalism Has Peaked, But If You Can’t Afford The Row, Try These 9 Brands

I think we all remember the iconic photo of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss sitting on New York City streets wearing nothing but understated slip dresses. This is one of the photos that will forever define the model-off-duty style rhetoric of the ’90s. The supermodels proved that all you need is the basics and good style to put together a paparazzi-worthy outfit and the rest of the world followed suit.

Decades later, if you take a look around at what fashion insiders are wearing lately, you might notice a minor shift. Many people I know who used to always love bright colors and statement-making pieces have taken a new approach to turning heads. Sometimes less is more, and in 2023, that will certainly be the case so a minor dose of ’90s minimalism will serve everyone well.

Most of us know The Row as the destination to get this look. In fact, its recent sample sale drew the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen in New York City, and that’s saying a lot. If you’re like me and would prefer to skip The Row price tag, allow me to introduce you to nine brands that will help you get pieces that hold nearly the same quality and power. Enjoy.

Although Reformation is known for its floral, cottagecore dresses, the brand’s fall collection immediately made me think of ’90s supermodel apparel. Plus, with sustainability at the forefront of the label, you’ll feel good about buying into these pieces.

I wore this to a special event in NYC and felt amazing in it.

When a ’90s supermodel meets the 2023 aesthetic.

A maxi slip dress is a must if you want to capture this coveted look.

Of all the high-street brands, Mango has always delivered the most European vibe you can imagine, which, of course, requires a slew of minimalist pieces. The quality is superior to other affordable brands, in my experience, so I tell everyone to invest in its pieces.

All a ’90s supermodel really needs is a basic tank and jeans.

Maxi skirts will definitely wow any crowd.

You know what to do with your straight-leg jeans.

The Frankie Shop is an absolute favorite brand that all fashion girls have in their closets. I finally made my first few purchases from the brand this past year and have loved everything.

Your slip dress is incomplete without this blazer.

Straight-leg trousers are straight out of a ’90s sitcom where the main characters discuss their love lives in an office setting.

Top it off.

If you like minimalism, you’ve already heard about COS, but if you’re new to the brand, allow me to explain: Every time a friend of mine asks me for advice on where to shop, I have to mention this store. It has everything you need to build a fabulous wardrobe.

Absolute perfection.

This coat says it all.

The shift dress is back.

Australia does it again. Sir has thought beyond the minimalism aesthetic to consider making a minimal environmental impact—and look good while doing it. While its pieces are perfect for a ’90s minimalist wardrobe, they’re anything but basic, and therefore, I’m obsessed.

Matching your top with your pants is such a vibe.

I love the added layer and cross straps on this one.

My closet is begging for more knit maxis.

Totême is similar to The Row in that the woman who shops there is absolutely obsessed and always owns way more than one piece from the brand. Every design it creates pairs well with the others, making it the perfect brand to create a capsule wardrobe with.

It’s oversize sweater season.

I love anything that emphasizes the waist in a demure way.

You could probably wear these pants with absolutely everything that you own, making them so worth the price tag.

If you love French girl style, please allow me to introduce you to Sézane. Based in Pairs, of course, it tailors directly to the French-girl aesthetic, so you’ll be sure to find minimalist pieces there.

Everyone needs to have multiple shirts like this.

I’m all about embroidery.

These are so good.

Multiple people have told me lately that Christopher Esber is their favorite brand, and honestly, same. You’ll find pieces from this designer that are unlike anything you’ve ever seen and that still feel minimal and effortless. Since the brand is always thinking outside of the box, I can’t wait to see its next move.

A micro-trend I’ve spotted recently is U-shaped necklines.

Now I want to go to a beach party.

Okay, this is everything.

You might be surprised to see Zara in this lineup, but here we are. The retailer has provided multiple new collections and collaborations lately and minimalism has clearly been top of mind. Most notably, it’s created a collaboration with Narcisco Rodriguez, a designer who is known for dressing the best supermodels in the ’90s. Keep an eye out for affordable and chic pieces.

Now, this is perfection.

This color is everything.

I’m all about these seams.

This looks exactly like the dress I described in the intro of this story.

After seeing my coworker wear this, I need it.
