Tesla now has 160,000 customers running its Full Self Driving beta

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge

Tesla’s Optimus robot prototype was not the only thing the company shared on Friday evening during its AI Day presentation. Autopilot director Ashok Elluswamy took the stage during Tesla’s AI day to talk about how the company’s Full Self Driving software has improved. He revealed that there are now 160,000 customers running the beta software, compared to 2,000 from this time last year.

In total, Tesla says there have been 35 software releases of FSD. In a Q&A at the end of the presentation, Musk made another prediction — he’s made a few before — that the technology would be ready for a worldwide rollout by the end of this year but acknowledged the regulatory and testing hurdles that remained before that happens.

What’s Worth It: The New Fall Beauty Finds We Tried and Can’t Stop Recommending

By now, you’ve probably surmised that we test-drive a lot of beauty products here at Who What Wear HQ. From nail polish and makeup to hair and skincare, we’re eyebrow-deep in all things new, exciting, and wish list–worthy. That said, due to the number of products we come in contact with, we’ve also transformed into the nitpickiest of beauty consumers. Within seconds, we can tell if a new hair oil is too heavy, and we’re quick to ignore a serum that yields disappointing results.

The good news? We’re far more often impressed than unimpressed after trying out a new product, and usually, we simply can’t wait to spread the word to all of our fellow beauty lovers (also known as you!). Therefore, we’ve decided gushing over our latest fave products should become a monthly ritual, and every 30 days or so, you can expect a full report detailing the highlighters, hair wands, and overnight skincare saviors we’ve quickly fallen head over heels for.

For the most part, we’ll be covering buzzworthy launches, as those typically take up most of the action atop our product-filled desks, but we won’t dismiss new-to-us products, either. Sometimes, our best discoveries are found on a friend’s vanity or on someone’s face at the bar (true story). Ahead are the best beauty products we tried in September! Grab your game face and wallet—you’ll be needing both.

It’s so, so rare that I try a new product and become so immediately and unequivocally obsessed, that I forget all others that came before. But this hot-off-the-press oil-free face primer did just that! Somehow, this ultra-clean formula from Credo’s in-house brand Exa does the unimaginable—it hydrates and feeds your skin with yummy ingredients like blue spirulina and prickly pear extract, while simultaneously absorbing excess oil, gripping onto makeup, and drying down to a flattering, soft-matte finish. I’ve never loved a primer this much, and it’s the missing link I’ve been waiting for to achieve incredible-looking skin/makeup that lasts all damn day or night. (This is huge coming from someone like me who wants a dewy and luminous glow but quickly veers greasy and shiny.) Fun fact: This primer can delightfully work like a setting powder—just layer it on top of your makeup to mattify any shine that’s happening without drying out your skin or lending a cakey finish.

Every beauty person on the planet right now is FTFO over Tower 28 Beauty’s latest product: a mascara that quite literally has a memory hold technology that memorizes the wave and curl of your natural lashes. 2022 going on 2032? Feels like it! I’d been very happy with a slew of new mascaras I’d been trying, so, despite my love for Tower 28, I was last to arrive at the party for this one, but I’m so so glad I eventually did. Length, curl, and doe-eyed definition are my top three pillars regarding my lashes, and this one delivers as a true triple threat. It’s humidity-proof so you don’t get sad, saggy lashes by midday if you live in a humid climate like I do (Santa Monica is basically a separate country from the rest of L.A.). It’s also vegan, water-resistant, and fortified with lash-strengthening ingredients like panthenol vitamin B5 and castor oil. (So yes, your lashes will still look like a million bucks even when you’re mascara-less!)

By now, you may or may not know that I absolutely can’t stand the feeling of most body products on my skin. Feeling like a lubed-up baby seal (especially before I crawl into bed at night) is more aggravating than nails on a chalkboard. But because I’m impossible, I still want my limbs so silky-smooth and deliriously hydrated that they glow and gleam. Is that asking for too much?! Usually, it is, but this new body serum mist from Chanel’s eco-responsible beauty branch, N°1 De Chanel, has managed to make the cut. First, I’m lazy AF, so I love how fast and efficient it is to apply the milky serum all over my body and re-up my skin’s moisture levels in about three minutes flat. While there’s no icky residue, it does leave behind soft and silky skin and a lingering scent that’s subtle but gorgeous. It’s been the perfect summer-to-fall antidote for my dry skin.

“I have really dry skin, and this is the exact time of year when it typically starts flaking. This moisturizing mask breathes new life into parched skin by making it feel plump and intensely hydrated. The best part is you can leave it on overnight for an extra boost of moisture.”

“I’m not usually one for body scrubs, but this is not your average body scrub. It has a triad of chemical, physical, and enzymatic exfoliation, and it turns into a rich lather as you smooth it onto your skin, doubling as a cleanser. Plus, it’s made with upcycled tulips—I can’t imagine a more luxe shower staple.”

“I’m nearly always in the market for a good bodywash, and Native’s phthalate-free, sulfate-free, and dye-free options do the trick. I’m obsessed with this dreamy fall scent, which makes my shower smell like a cabin escape.”

“As a Taurus sun and moon, I believe in indulging in the little luxuries as much as possible. This opulent body lotion is the perfect place to start if you’re in the market for a body lotion that feels like a treat every time you use it. With notes like cassis, saffron, violet leaf, rose, pepper, and amber, it’s tough to imagine a better sensorial body lotion experience.”

“I had the privilege of getting a blowout from the creator of Arkive, Adam Reed, to test the new products. I was blown away by how soft, shiny, and bouncy my hair was afterward. Also, as a major fragrance person, I give kudos to Reed for imparting every formula with fine fragrances—they smell so damn good.”

“Dior has remixed their iconic J’adore perfume. The new fragrance is alcohol-free and water-based, resulting in the most fresh-smelling soft floral. I’ll be honest—I typically steer clear of white floral fragrances (they tend to lean a bit powdery for my taste), but this blend of jasmine, magnolia, and neroli is just magnetic.”

“I’ve never found a product that makes me want to call it ‘magic in a bottle,’ but that’s what this Dieux serum is for me. I apply it nightly with the brand’s Instant Angel moisturizer and every morning I wake up with healthy and soft skin instead of the usual dry and irritated skin I was used to facing in the morning. I have extremely dry skin and am prone to the occasional hormonal breakouts, so I do get pretty frustrated with my skin at times. While a lot of other products fall short in drastic effects, this serum changed the game for me. I will definitely be repurchasing.”

“I’ll be honest—I’ve never been a lip liner girl. I’m always applying a gloss or lipstick in a rush. After seeing dozens of lip tutorials on TikTok, I decided it was time to give it a try. My lipstick is always coming off or smudging, so I think I needed a liner. I tested a few out, but this Rare Beauty option has been my favorite. It has a built-in sharpener, is creamy in texture, and applies like butter.”

“I have a very love-hate relationship with makeup. I love how it makes me feel but also am extremely sensitive and can get uncomfortable when something’s on my face, which is why I prioritize lightweight products. I only touch foundations when I utmost need to. Most of the time, I usually stick to just concealer, but this Saie Beauty tinted moisturizer has come in handy in evening out my skin tone for everyday use. It’s also mega hydrating, so I know I can continue using it into the colder months.”

“Celine’s fragrance collection is heavenly, and I’m loving the latest scent. The woodsy notes make it ideal for fall. And just look at that bottle—it’s like a work of art in and of itself.”

“Over the past few weeks, I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with different eye shadow looks. Wearing colorful outfits has been way more fun ever since I started matching my looks to eye shadow from this palette. My favorite example of this is when I copied Kate Moss’ iconic blue eye shadow look that she wore in the ’90s for a night out during fashion week.”

“I just dyed my hair to a daring shade of red, and to help keep it strong between root touchups, I’ve updated my hair care routine. One of the first items I ordered after reading many rave reviews was this serum from Kérastase. After applying it in small doses to my roots for just two weeks, I swear I noticed healthier hair, so I’m telling all of my friends about it.”

“Whenever I try a product from SkinCeuticals, I’m always impressed by how efficacious its formulas are. I told my esthetician during a recent facial that I was dealing with some dark spots and scarring, and she immediately prescribed me this serum. After taking it home with me, I was quite impressed. It’s better suited to my specific skin type, so it’s actually replaced my all-time favorite and one of its sister serums, C E Ferulic.”

“Another serum that has become a star player in my routine is this one from StriVectin. It specializes in minimizing pores, and I haven’t complained about mine since purchasing it. BHA is the superstar ingredient!”

“My co-worker gave me this lip pencil and I’ve been pretty much addicted to it ever since. For a no-makeup makeup look, I apply a super light layer followed by a clear gloss or balm.”

“I never really gave body oil a chance for no other reason than I didn’t really understand how it was any different than a lotion. I love to be proven wrong when it comes to beauty products, which was the case as soon as I tried this oil from Prima. It’s so luxurious and soaks into the skin in a way I’ve never experienced from a traditional body cream or lotion. This one smells decadent and isn’t greasy.”

“Whether you have a partner or not, you need this sexual wellness product. It’s oil-based and the addition of CBD oil gives it a 10/10 score from me.”

“I’m a huge fan of Gwen Stefani and GXVE Beauty so naturally, I was excited to hear that the brand would be dropping one of my favorite products—lip gloss! The shades are incredible and it isn’t too sticky. My fave shade has to be All My Love.”

“Mugler. Not sure how I went so long without trying this beautiful and intoxicating fragrance! I recently gave it a sniff to compare to the new version, Alien Goddess Intense, but I have to say that I prefer the original. It’s sweet without being too overpowering and makes me feel extra sophisticated.”

“This is such a great lightweight and hydrating beauty oil. I love how it makes my skin glow after using it, and it smells lovely!”

“I’ve been using this collagen-boosting overnight mask a few times a week and I’ve been waking up with glowing skin. Definitely will be using long-term.”

“I love that this is a natural alternative to retinol. My skin’s been extra sensitive lately, so I’ve been laying off products like retinol, but this face oil is super hydrating and contains plant-based ingredients that deliver retinol-like results. I’m loving it so far and can’t wait to see what kind of long-term results it delivers.”

“I’m honestly not usually a palette person, as I’m pretty picky about what colors I use on my face (I prefer neutral shades with a touch of shimmer), but this one really checks all my boxes. Each of the six shades is gorgeous, blendable, and complementary. There’s something for every need—from blurring powder to highlighter to blush to bronzer. I have the elephant palette but there are two others that are equally perfect.”

“I’ve always found microneedling to be slightly terrifying, so I’ve never attempted an in-office treatment, but these new at-home rollers are anything but scary. The tiny microneedles dissolve into your skin and after you’ve rolled it over your face for about 10 minutes, it’ll look like you just got an hour-long skin-brightening facial. I can’t wait to try all three of the formulas.”

“I just started using Chantecaille products this year, and I’ve been consistently impressed. Lip Chic is a product I’ve been wanting to try for a while, especially when I saw they released four new shades for fall. Each shade is perfect and like-your-lips-but-better, but I’m partial to this smoky rose shade. It’s buttery and slightly sheer but buildable, so great for every day. Plus, the tube couldn’t possibly be any chicer.”

I Have the Highest Standards for Shoes—These Mango Pairs Pass Every Test

I’m picky about a lot of things, but there’s nothing I’m more particular about than shoes. You wouldn’t know it from the 50 pairs of heels, boots, sneakers, and sandals that are currently stacked in my closet (and elsewhere), but I have a tendency to nitpick a seemingly perfect pair until I don’t want it anymore—that is, unless the shoes actually are perfect. In that case, I’ll be the first to say, “I’ll take ’em.”

So I was shocked when I found so many styles at Mango—somewhere I rarely shop for shoes—that checked off every one of my boxes. Normally, I’ll see a pair in one of the brand’s two NYC stores, eye them for a moment, and then walk away. This time, walking away wasn’t even an option. All this is to say that Mango has clearly leveled up in the shoe department. Scroll down to shop every pair of ballet flats, loafers, slingbacks, and cowboy boots that are currently calling my shopping cart home.

I love all ballet flats, but this chocolate-brown pair is a step above the rest.

Fall is here, which means you absolutely need a pair of brown knee-high boots. Sorry, but it’s the rules.

These riding boots are equally essential.

Pair these with practically anything, and you’ll get compliments—guaranteed.

On those rainy, gloomy days when anything but a heavy-duty boot will get destroyed, these will help you look chic and effortless.

These are sharp.

A cool, different pair of Western boots will get you far in life.

These are so pretty.

I just got a pair of these, and when I tell you that they are a power shoe, I’m not exaggerating one bit.

Hello, gorgeous.

An easy sandal for high and low occasions alike.

I’m low-key obsessed with metallic shoes at the moment. Ask anyone in my texting history. I’ve been sending links on the hour every hour.

I mean, come on. These are too good.

This shaft height is perfect for cropped pants.

I promise you’ll own (and wear) these for the rest of your life.

These will look so nice paired with knee-length skirts and dresses.

Spice up your loafer collection.

I mean, these are a given.

A pair of comfortable and easy white sandals is surprisingly hard to come by.

Look up “fall” in the dictionary, and a photo of these boots will greet you.

I’m in love.

Don’t sleep on classic ankle boots. They absolutely come in handy.

An elevated take on flip-flops—literally.

These remind me of the Loewe sneakers that I want but can’t afford at the moment.

I’m obsessed with clogs. There’s simply no denying it.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think these were more than $800 and designer.

I’m going to keep these by my door for every errand I have to run.

Got a wedding on your calendar? These will go with every wedding-guest dress.

Bring some color to your fall-shoe offering.

These boots and I are Facebook official.

The holidays are coming up…

We do not deserve these. Just kidding—buy them so we can match.

For your next night out.

It’s true: Sock boots are back.

I’m certainly not mad about these croc-embossed boots.

Lightning, Magic’s Owners Give to Hurricane Ian Relief Efforts

The ownership from two of Florida’s professional sports teams are assisting in relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

The family foundations of MLB’s Rays and NHL’s Lightning announced Friday that their organizations are donating a combined $3 million to aid in relief efforts across Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

The Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation and the Vinik Family Foundation are donating $1 million respectively to those impacted by the recent storm. Jeff Vinik, owner and chairman of the Lightning, hopes the efforts will “help families recover and rebuild in the months to come.”

“The most important thing we can do is support one another,” Vinik said.

The DeVos Family Foundation, along with the Magic organization are giving $500,000 to the hurricane recovery fund set up by the Heart of Florida United Way and the Central Florida Foundation. In addition, the DeVos Family Foundation will provide $250,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund orchestrated by the state’s first lady, Casey DeSantis, and another $250,000 will be set aside for “future rebuilding efforts” across the state that are prioritized.

Dan DeVos, chairman of the Magic, said the franchise will continue to partner with organizations that have been impacted the most as well as “prioritize the health and safety of people” within the region.

WOFL-TV in Orlando reported Friday that nearly two dozen deaths had been reported across the state. Hurricane Ian made landfall in the southwest portion of the state as a Category 4 storm on Wednesday.

Honestly, I Love It: The New Face Mist That Banished My Redness—Instantly

Welcome to Deep Reviewsyour one-stop destination to discover the absolute best products and brands the beauty industry has to offer. Every month, the Who What Wear staffers you already know and trust will research, test, and review the market’s most sought-after and buzzed-about products to see which formulas (of the hundreds up for consideration) are truly worth your hard-earned money and attention. You can expect honest, completely uncensored feedback and no-BS recommendations our hard-to-please testers endorse without reservations. To put it simply, stick with us, and buyer’s remorse will be a thing of the past.

While the majority of our Deep Reviews will feature our editors’ honest, ultra-hot takes on wider product categories—or multiple products within a particular beauty brand—every so often we’ll sprinkle in a special, single-product format called Honestly, I Love It. As the name suggests, these reviews will hone in on one standout beauty formula our editors quite literally can’t shut the fuck up about. First up? SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Essence Mist ($67), the brand’s latest, completely obsession-worthy launch.

Let me preface my entire review by saying this: Historically speaking, I have thoroughly despised every single face mist (aside from my beloved makeup-setting spray) I’ve dabbled in. For years, I’ve spritzed my face with countless holy-grail favorites, and I’ve only ever been left feeling damp and disappointed. I also know I’m in the minority here, but I’ve never found the sensation of a face mist “refreshing” or enjoyable. (It kind of reminds me of getting sprayed in the face with a hose or a sprinkler as a kid—weird but true.) So even though I adore SkinCeuticals and the brand’s coveted collection of antioxidant serums like C E Ferulic and Silymarin CF, I was a tad disappointed when I found out its big, ultra-buzzy new launch was going to be a mist. Ugh, I thought to myself, I’m totally not going to love this.

The irony, of course, is that I couldn’t have been more wrong, and I’ve officially dubbed the new Phyto Corrective Essence Mist as some kind of magical witch’s brew thanks to how fast and visually effective its redness-banishing and hydrating benefits are. This sucker tackles so many skin concerns in one go, which in my eyes makes the $67 price tag well worth the investment. (Astoundingly, just two weeks after receiving my bottle pre-launch, I had already gotten halfway through the bottle—that’s how addictive the results are!) There’s a lot to discuss—from the strategic ingredients to the actual results (photos included), so let’s dive in, shall we?

First, I wanted to chat with an expert in the skincare field who could weigh in on why this face mist is so revolutionary and so much more effective than any other formula I’ve tried. I reached out to Rachel Reyes-Bergano, DO, owner of Campo Aesthetics in Pasadena, California, for the scoop.

“The Phyto Corrective Essence Mist is SkinCeuticals’ first debut in the essence category and the latest addition to the brand’s Phyto portfolio of products, which currently includes the Phyto A+ Brightening Treatment, Phyto Corrective Gel, and Phyto Corrective Masque,” shares Reyes-Bergano. She also explains that a formula like this had been a longtime request from skincare professionals who were looking for an easy-to-use mist that could be used at home or in combination with/after clinical procedures in-office.

“This new product is easy to layer and incorporate into any type of skincare routine,” Reyes-Bergano continues. “It has a revolutionary ability to strengthen the skin barrier, increase hydration, and limit the appearance of redness, which is particularly key post-procedure. I’ve been using it with my patients following laser treatments, and they notice an immediate visible reduction in redness.” What’s more, thePhyto Corrective Essence Mist is great for all skin types, including dry, normal, oily, combination, and sensitive skin, and it’s especially helpful to anyone dealing with dehydrated, sensitized, acne-prone, or mature skin. I run dry, sensitive, and acne-prone, so I was the ultimate guinea pig.

I’ll talk about my experience and results below, but it’s important to highlight the mist’s strategic melding of ingredients, which uncannily transformed the look and feel of my dry, pink, and uneven skin right before my eyes. According to Reyes-Bergano, the essence’s 6.2% blend of hyaluronic acid and glycerin draws and retains water in the skin, which explains the instantaneous burst of bounce and glow you get.

“Hyaluronic acid is a powerful, natural humectant that provides long-lasting hydration to improve the look of skin texture,” she tells me. “Glycerin is known to draw and retain moisture in the skin, and the 5.75% Phyto Botanical Blend including cucumber, thyme, olive leaf and rosemary extracts ties it all together by calming, soothing, and reducing visible redness.

So how did a face mist–despising human like myself totally reform? Let me explain. First and foremost, I need to talk about the actual feel of the mist and how it weightlessly rains down into—not on top of—the complexion. To me, most mists feel more like a violent spritz, and I can quite literally feel the droplets of liquid just sitting on my face. Then, once everything does sink in, I don’t feel or see much difference. In other words, I’ve always categorized face mists as a complete waste of money, and I always discourage my friends from buying them. This one, however, does the opposite. The mist itself is ultra fine—think a luxurious steam minus the warmth—and the formula instantly cozies into your pores to start working its transformative magic.

For the most part, my skin has been on pretty good behavior recently, but the transition from summer to fall turned my complexion dry, dehydrated, and comparatively luster-less. Prior to trying the mist, my skin was looking and feeling rougher and less even smooth than normal. Easy to flush, I had been looking perpetually, not just occasionally, pink, and I had a small, albeit stubborn, bout of hormonal acne around my chin and jawline. Nothing crazy, but a little annoying all the same. I can count on one hand the number of beauty products that produce immediate, honest-to-god miracles, and this unassuming emerald-green bottle is one of them.

Just as Reyes-Bergano had warned, immediately post-spriz, my skin looked less ruddy (if not completely devoid of any and all pinkness), and my complexion did a 180 in the hydration department. Right before my eyes, my skin glistened, glowed, and looked so dewy, smooth, plump, and bouncy I had to do about three double takes. Obviously, as one does, I immediately spritzed my face about three more times and became more and more shocked at the drop-of-a-hat transformation. I mean, just LOOK at the before and after shots of my chin acne! Sorry for yelling, but if I hadn’t taken and submitted the photos myself, I would never believe those results didn’t come courtesy of filters or FaceTune. I swear on my life, zero retouching or light manipulation went into these photos—the results really are that immediate and that drastic. The fact that I’m already halfway through my first bottle proves just how compulsive I’ve become about my application. Honestly, I love it.

Because I do have sensitive, pimple-prone skin, I keep my product routine extremely streamlined. I’ve been using the Phyto Corrective Essence Mist throughout the day whenever my skin needs a little pick-me-up, but I also heed Reyes-Bergano’s official application advice by using it in the morning after an antioxidant serum. (For me, that’s Silymarin CF, shown above.) In fact, the formula is so hydrating that most days I don’t even need an actual moisturizer. (Just make sure you shake it well, close your eyes and mouth, and start spritzing about six inches away from your face.) Oh, and if you’re going to use it in the evening within your skincare routine, do so before any corrective serums.

If you’re into studies and statistics, SkinCeuticals also let me know that it performed a thorough dossier of clinical testing designed to demonstrate the efficacy of the mist, which you can peruse below.

This lightweight, ultra-calming gel serum is beloved by folks who deal with mild and severe redness. It’s safe for all skin types—whether you veer dry or oily—and it’s noncomedogenic so won’t clog pores if you happen to be acne-prone like me. The formula’s hero ingredients include mulberry to fade the look of discoloration in addition to cucumber and thyme to keep even the most inflammatory of complexions calm, cool, and collected. Not to mention, moisturizing hyaluronic acid swoops in for an extra dose of hydration so your dew and glow factor is never compromised. It’s a cult favorite formula in the industry for a reason.

How to use it: If you’re using it in the morning, apply a few drops to your face after an antioxidant serum but before sunscreen, and if you’re applying at night, do so before you go in with a retinol.

Any product with “brightening” in its name makes us giddy, but rarely do said products actually deliver on the dullness- and discoloration-banishing benefits they tout. This top-rated treatment, however, is one of the few exceptions. It’s an oil-free moisturizer that simultaneously smooths, brightens, and clarifies the skin while it delivers that essential dose of lightweight hydration. The stellar composition includes 3% azelaic acid, 2% alpha arbutin, and 5.75% phyto botanical blend to target redness, bumpy skin texture, excess oil, and even enlarged pores.

How to use it: Apply one to two pumps after you cleanse and before you tone both morning and night. In the morning, be sure to follow it up with an antioxidant serum and sunscreen.

If you love to mask and deal with issues such as redness and acne, this calming botanical mask will quickly become a nonnegotiable within your product arsenal. (It has over 100 reviews on the SkinCeuticals website and still manages to sustain a solid 4.7-star rating!) It boasts a potent blend of botanical extracts, a skin-soothing dipeptide, and hyaluronic acid for 10/10 moisture replenishment. It has an addictively yummy cooling factor the second it comes in contact with your skin and effortlessly reduces skin sensitivity, visual redness, uneven skin texture, and stubborn dullness.

How to use it: Apply a generous layer of the mask all over your face and neck (even your chest if you’d fancy!) and allow it to work its magic for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing off with cool water. For best results, use it a few times a week and feel free leave it on as a luxurious overnight treatment.
