Will Levis Remains In Game After Gruesome Finger Injury

This looks extremely painful.

Kentucky football may be off to a rough start in today’s Top 25 SEC matchup with Ole Miss, but quarterback Will Levis’s toughness certainly can’t be questioned.

Down 14–6 deep in Kentucky territory, Levis was flushed into his own end zone by the Rebels’ defensive pressure. He attempted to throw the ball away as Tavius Robinson and Troy Brown bore down on him, and was called for an intentional grounding in the end zone, resulting in a safety.

The safety added insult to apparent injury. As Levis got up off the turf, cameras caught him looking at his left hand, with his middle finger bent at an extremely painful looking angle

Ole Miss scored a field goal on its ensuing possession to extend the lead to 19–6, but Levis and Kentucky answered, despite the star quarterback’s painful-looking injury.

After six straight runs to start the drive, Levis capped it by completing three straight passes for 28 yards, including a touchdown pass to Tayvion Robinson. After a failed two-point attempt, Kentucky has trimmed the Ole Miss lead to 19–12.

Levis, who has been discussed as a potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, is 6-for-9 for 72 yards and a score on the day, as the game in Oxford approaches the half.

Mariners Broadcasters’ Amazing Walk-Off HR Calls Going Viral

Seattle got a few iconic calls from last night’s victory.

View the original article to see embedded media.

The Mariners snapped their 21-year playoff drought in dramatic fashion on Friday night, thanks to a walk-off home run by catcher Cal Raleigh. The wild card-clinching victory led to a huge celebration in Seattle.

Maybe the best part of these regular season celebrations is seeing the local broadcasters, who have been with the team’s all season long, get to call the big moments. That is exactly what happened with the Mariners on Friday, and the team shared the moments with social media.

First up is Root Sports announcer Dave Sims, who is currently in his 16th season as the Mariners television play-by-play announcer. In his first playoff-clinching call with the team, Sims brought out his iconic “hey now, hey now” line for an electric call.

With MLB’s postseason being nationally televised, Sims will not have a chance to call a playoff game on the local TV station, making this even more special.

However, this moment might have meant more to Rick Rizzs, who has been the Mariners radio voice for 37 years. It’s been a long time since he had a chance to call a moment like this, and he did not disappoint.

Seattle’s playoff appearance means a lot to so many members of that organization and community. But it also gave the team’s announcers to show off in the biggest moment of the season.

Jones Shoots Down Idea of Rush Starting Over Dak Prescott

After stirring the pot last week, the Cowboys owner made his thoughts clear on the team’s situation at quarterback.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Whispers of a quarterback competition in Dallas have grown in recent weeks following the steady play of Cowboys backup Cooper Rush with starter Dak Prescott still out with a thumb injury. Owner Jerry Jones fanned the flames of a possible controversy last week when he said he’d welcome a competition as it would mean the team was playing well under Rush’s leadership.

“Of course I would,” Jones said when asked about his desire for a quarterback controversy, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Of course, that means we’ve won. If he comes in and plays as well as Prescott plays—if Rush played that well over these next games ahead, I’d walk to New York to get that.”

Well, the Cowboys have now won back-to-back games against the Bengals and the Giants with Rush behind center. The 28-year-old has thrown for 450 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in the two victories.

Although Rush has admirably filled Prescott’s role, there won’t be any further calls for a quarterback change after Jones firmly squashed the speculation that he added to just over a week ago.

“No, all it does is tell me that we’re in great shape at the QB position,” Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan, when asked if Rush could hold onto the job if the team keeps winning, per Machota.

Prescott said earlier in the week that he expects to miss the Cowboys Week 4 matchup against the Commanders, leaving Rush to make his third consecutive start on Sunday. However, Dallas’s usual starter claimed to be eyeing a Week 5 return for a tilt against the Rams.

Rachel Nichols Addresses ESPN Controversy, Departure

The NBA reporter left the network last year over controversial comments regarding Maria Taylor and ESPN’s diversity history.

Rachel Nichols made her first appearance on Showtime since joining the network, and she immediately addressed what happened at ESPN.

Nichols and ESPN parted ways last year after comments surfaced of her criticizing the network’s diversity history. Nichols had been reassigned to sideline reporter in favor of Maria Taylor as NBA Finals host in 2020.

“If you need to give her more things to do because you are feeling pressure about your crappy longtime record on diversity—which, by the way, I know personally from the female side of it—like, go for it,” Nichols said to Adam Mendelsohn, an advisor to athletes including LeBron James, in 2020, according to the New York Times. “Just find it somewhere else.”

Not long after that report, Taylor left ESPN for NBC where she currently hosts Football Night in America.

While appearing on the All The Smoke show with Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, Nichols explained her side of the story. She said, in wake of a different New York Times article that questioned ESPN’s diversity opportunities, the network asked her to take a sideline reporter role so they could promote Taylor.

Nichols explained that when she first arrived in the NBA’s bubble in 2020, she was using new equipment and wasn’t aware she didn’t turn off her line that connected her to ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol.

“At least one person decided to just sit and watch, and started spying on me like I was their own personal TV show,” she said. “When they heard something they thought was juicy they picked up their phone and started recording my conversation.”

Then, she went into the context of the quote in which she questioned Taylor replacing her as the NBA Finals host. Nichols says that the NBA Finals hosting role was included in her contract with the company.

“This was a conversation between me and a friend, we talked about a lot of different things,” she said, “He brought up the article that had been in the paper about the lack of opportunities for people of color at ESPN, and we started talking about how my situation may intersect with some of the race and gender history of a network that is well-documented and complicated.”

Nichols claims she praised Taylor, calling her “incredibly talented” and wishing her “all the success in the world” during the same conversation. She also criticized ESPN’s handling of trying to promote diversity in the way that they did, saying that they wouldn’t ask Rece Davis to move off of College GameDay hosting duties to become a college football sideline reporter.

“I have fought through a lot of things in this business to get to where I am,” she said. “To me, it felt like, ‘Hey, if you have a problem, if it is this article, if it is something else, whatever it is, why are you coming to the two women here to solve it?’”

When ESPN first heard those comments, Nichols said the network’s HR department investigated it and didn’t find any wrongdoing, which led to Nichols getting a new contract with a raise and Taylor getting promoted further. She thought the situation was over until the report came out last summer.

“I think there were still some people who had bad feelings and they held on to this tape for a year,” she said, “When there was a point that they wanted some leverage with their own situations, they fed it to the press.”

Nichols said she still feels remorse toward Taylor, even after she apologized on TV and tried to reach out behind the scenes.

“I feel very sorry that any of this touched Maria Taylor,” she said. “It wasn’t her fault what was going on, I wasn’t talking about her actions. To even bring her into it, that was a mistake on my part and if it caused her to be upset in any way, that stinks. I don’t want to be that person.”
