CFB World Reacts to TCU’s 41-Point Half vs. Oklahoma

Saturday’s game in Fort Worth is getting ugly for the Sooners.

As long as Oklahoma remains a member of the Big 12, the Sooners’ conference rivals are happy to get their licks in on the league power. OU fell 41–34 in an upset loss at the hands of Kansas State a week ago, and things look much, much worse this week at TCU.

At halftime, the Horned Frogs led the Sooners 41–17, with Sonny Dykes’s team racking up 479 yards of offense against the Brent Venables and Ted Roof-led defense. After an early second half score for TCU, the lead has been expanded to 48–17.

TCU’s offensive explosion has been led by quarterback Max Duggan, who has 281 passing yards and three scores through the air, along with 70 yards on the ground, 67 of which came on one long touchdown run. Emari Demercado and Kendre Miller each had 57 rushing yards at the half, with the team exceeding 200 yards on the ground total.

The offseason hire of Venables to replace offensive mastermind Lincoln Riley, who departed for USC, promised to pay dividends on the defensive end. Venables, who previously served as the Sooners’ defensive coordinator under Bob Stoops, emerged as an elite coordinator and head coaching candidate under Dabo Swinney at Clemson, helping the Tigers to a pair of national titles.

Oklahoma fans hoped that bringing in Venables would help keep them as Big 12 title favorites and in the College Football Playoff conversation. Others around the sport are certainly having fun at their expense, as that doesn’t appear to be the case just a month into the coach’s first season.

To make matters worse for the Sooners, quarterback Dillon Gabriel exited the game after taking a vicious blow to the head from TCU linebacker Jamoi Hodge, who was ejected after the play. His backup Davis Beville is 1-for-6 for four yards.

Brittany Mahomes Unhappy With Controversial Letter to Editor Dissing Patrick

The quarterback’s wife was not pleased to see the opinion published by a reader of the Kansas City Star.

View the original article to see embedded media.

Following the Chiefs’ 17–16 loss to the Colts this past weekend, the Kansas City Star published a controversial letter to the editor in which a reader said that quarterback Patrick Mahomes was “not a team player.”

The letter, written by John Geimer from Glen Carbon, Ill., caused quite a stir on social media when it was published on Friday. In the brief letter, Geimer said that he didn’t think that Mahomes cared “if his team wins or loses.”

“All he cares about is how he looks,” Geimer wrote. “It’s beginning to look very obvious. He’s a good quarterback but really doesn’t care about his team as a whole.”

While there may have been some that agreed with that opinion, one individual in particular firmly disagreed: Brittany Mahomes, Patrick’s wife.

Brittany took to Twitter not only to express her dismay with the letter, but also seemingly to the newspaper’s decision to publish it.

“Y’all are extremely ignorant for this,” she wrote. “Kansas City doesn’t do this to [its] people, what a joke you guys are.”

Mahomes will have a chance to prove his doubters wrong this upcoming weekend when the 2–1 Chiefs travel to Tampa Bay to take on Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.

Report: NFLPA Fires Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant

An investigation regarding Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa clearing concussion protocol last Sunday before re-entering the game is ongoing.

The NFL Players Association reportedly fired the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant who was involved in Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s evaluation last Sunday after it was found the doctor made “several mistakes,” a source told ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.

The NFLPA launched an investigation after Tagovailoa was cleared to play last Sunday vs. the Bills after he stumbled off the field following a major hit.

He cleared concussion protocol and returned to the game, but there has since been questioning surrounding his evaluation, with many questioning the decision to allow him back in the game. After the game, Tagovailoa said he suffered a back injury.

Then, on Thursday night vs. the Bengals, the quarterback was sacked, but this time he wasn’t able to get up after the hit, causing trainers to rush to the field and take him off on a stretcher. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for a head and neck injury. The team later confirmed that the quarterback suffered a concussion on Thursday.

In an interview with NFL Network, the league’s chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills said that Tagovailoa was evaluated for concussion symptoms every day after Sunday’s game, before being cleared by the independent neurologist ahead of Thursday’s game.

Following these two injuries, NFL players association executive director DeMaurice Smith said the NFLPA was planning to “pursue every legal option” regarding how Tagovailoa was evaluated.

Although the investigation into any “potential protocol violation” is still ongoing, the firing of the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant is the first big step the NFLPA has taken amid Tagovailoa’s situation.

Tagovailoa also does not have a timeline to return at this time.

BYU Mascot Shows Off Ridiculous Arm Strength in Viral Video

Cosmo put on a mini show during the Cougars’ last game.

BYU has produced some good players in recent years, but their best athlete may not be on the roster. Instead, it could be the mascot.

Cosmo the Cougar, BYU’s mascot, showed off some impressive arm strength in a new social media video. The mascot successfully climbed two columns of folding tables stacked on each other by jumping up on all fours like an actual cat. When he got to the top, Cosmo then backflipped and summersaulted off the table and onto a gymnast’s mat to get back down.

The impressive feat was something that no one would expect from a professional athlete, let alone a collegiate mascot.

Cosmo showed off his strength during BYU’s 38-26 win over Utah State on Thursday night, but it was so impressive that he might be on the Cougars’ defensive line next weekend.

What is more likely, though, is Cosmo will try to come up with another show for during the team’s next home game.
