NFL players are some of the best paid professional athletes in sports, and deservedly so—you’d probably want some serious scratch for going to war with 300-pound linebackers.
The criteria for ranking the highest-paid NFL players varies some depending on whether one is considering their by-season, annual, or guaranteed pay. But for the sake of this tally, we’re going with annual value. This explains why Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, whose lucrative endorsement deals pushed him to the top of Forbes highest-paid NFL player list, is absent here.

The Highest Paid NFL Players Are All Quarterbacks
It’s no surprise that the highest paid NFL players are all quarterbacks—the whole game evolves around them. They’re the ones who make the decisions, run the plays and have the longest pigskin possessions.
Two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers currently tops the salary list. The Green Bay Packers QB signed a three-year extension that gave him a league-leading payday. He’s a passing machine, having completed 69.8 per cent of his throws, and in the past two seasons alone, he’s racked up 85 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Kyler Murray – Arizona Cardinals Quarterback
$46.1 million
The Arizona Cardinals just signed a five-year extension with QB Kyler Murray. When he played for Oklahoma in college, he won the Heisman Trophy as a junior. Since joining the pros in 2019, the 24 year old has improved ever season and is considered one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL today.
Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback
$45 million
Patrick Mahomes is sitting pretty with a generous 10-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The quarterback has taken his team to two Super Bowls in the past four years, and has earned an impressive number of accolades over the years, including Super Bowl MVP, NFL Most Valuable Player, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and more.
Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills Quarterback
$43 million
Josh Allen played a bit inconsistently in his first two years in the NFL. But since 2020, he has become one to watch, leading the Buffalo Bills to their first division title and playoff victory since 1995. He’s had 42 total touchdowns and he’s looked great in the 2022 preseason with nine touchdowns over two games.
Derek Carr – Las Vegas Riders Quarterback
$40.5 million
Selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Derek Carr helped his team reach the playoffs in 2016 and again in 2021. His fellow players also ranked him 65th on the Top 100 NFL Players for 2022. For his efforts, the Raiders gave Carr a three-year, $121.5 million extension earlier in the offseason.

Rings of Power, set thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, is Amazon’s shot at a big, pop culture bending hit, with a budget estimated at least $100 million a season.
At the end of a marathon of a transfer window, it’s a sprint to the finish line for clubs to get their final signings sorted until the winter. Follow here for updates.
The transfer window closes for the summer across Europe’s top leagues on Thursday, with the deadline hitting and the dealing finally coming to an end after weeks of rumors, links, loans and signings.
So much of the important business has long been conducted. The likes of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Sadio Mané, Matthijs de Ligt, Darwin Núñez, Casemiro, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus are among the biggest names already featuring for their new clubs, but they’ll be joined by one last set of players on the go—albeit a set for which there won’t be much time afforded to acclimate to new surroundings.
The Premier League’s clubs have been the biggest spenders this summer (nearly $2 billion with a day to go), particularly Manchester United and Chelsea, while Barcelona, after selling off future assets to make it happen, has undergone an extreme makeover of its own. The three clubs remain involved in some of the biggest lingering transfer sagas, never content with the status quo despite the season carrying along in earnest.
In terms of the “Big Five” leagues across Europe, the deadline hits the Bundesliga at noon ET, followed by Serie A at 2 p.m., Ligue 1 at 5 p.m. and La Liga and the Premier League at 6 p.m.
Follow along here for updates from throughout the day, as the transfer window shuts and players—aside from free agents—are locked into their locations until after the 2022 World Cup this November and December (refresh for most recent updates).
THE RUMOR MILL
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag proclaimed Wednesday that Cristiano Ronaldo would be staying put, despite the player’s desire to go to a club featuring in the UEFA Champions League this season. Barring a complete reversal on that unambiguous statement or an offer that Man United cannot refuse, Ronaldo will have to get used to the dimmer lights of the UEFA Europa League instead. Napoli and Sporting CP, the latter of which was Ronaldo’s first club, are reportedly the only potential destinations. (BBC)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set for a reunion with Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea after agreeing to a deal to leave Barcelona. The forward is heading to London today to complete the deal. (ESPN)
Arsenal has reportedly made a £20 million bid for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian midfielder scored against the Gunners on Wednesday and could fit in perfectly at the Emirates with injuries to Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny leaving a gap in midfield. Atlético Madrid, Chelsea and Liverpool were also reportedly interested in the midfielder. (Sky Sports)
As if landing Fofana, Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly were not enough in remaking its back line, Chelsea is reportedly seeking a move for RB Leipzig center back Joško Gvardiol, which could cost a club that has already spent roughly $300 million this summer another $90 million. Gvardiol would stay at Leipzig for the rest of this season under the terms of the proposed deal. Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff previously stated that Gvardiol was not for sale. (The Telegraph)
Chelsea is also reportedly after Mexican midfielder Edson Álvarez, with the Blues said to have made a $50 million offer to Ajax for the 24-year-old, who could be part of the succession plan for N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho. (ESPN)
Everton manager Frank Lampard claims the door is shut on a potential transfer for Anthony Gordon, the 21-year-old winger who has drawn Chelsea’s interest and scored in consecutive games for the Toffees. (BBC)
Potentially related to that is word that Christian Pulisic reportedly will not get the move that he wants to secure more regular playing time before the World Cup, as Chelsea won’t sanction a loan of the U.S. men’s national team superstar. (The Athletic)
Another U.S. standout, right back Sergiño Dest, is reportedly closing in on a season-long loan to AC Milan from Barcelona, where he’s effectively been frozen out by Xavi. (Fabrizio Romano)

LATEST COMPLETED MOVES OF NOTE
Lucas Ocampos (Sevilla loan to Ajax)
The Argentine winger trades one Champions League club for another, filling the void left behind by Manchester United-bound Antony at Ajax—at least for the rest of this season. The 28-year-old’s loan comes with an option to buy.
Ruiz is part of a Spanish makeover of PSG’s midfield, with Valencia’s Carlos Soler expected to join as well. Ruiz’s portion cost PSG a reported $21.5 million.
Leandro Paredes (PSG loan to Juventus)
With PSG loading up in its midfield, there was no place for Paredes, who heads to Juve on loan for the season. He’s the second PSG player to go to Juventus this summer, following Ángel Di María’s free transfer.
Saša Kalajdžić (Stuttgart to Wolves)
The 6’7” Austrian striker completed a reported $17.4 million move to the Premier League side, with whom he signed a five-year deal. He scored 22 goals in his last two seasons in the Bundesliga, including a career-high 16 in 2020-21.

Fine-hair types know that they want to avoid anything that weighs down their hair or makes it seem flat. “Fine hair gets tangled quickly and easily, and that is where a lot of breakage happens,” says Laura Polko, T3 brand ambassador and celebrity stylist. “It is a bit more fragile since it is a thinner strand, and it cannot withstand the same heat, chemicals, and environmental factors as thicker hair.”
That means you want to be using the right products and tools to care for your delicate strands. And when it comes to the latter, you especially want to make sure you have a brush on hand that is gentle enough on the hair but also able to detangle and style. It might seem like a tall order, but I asked some hairstylists for their tips, which they shared below.
StyleSeat natural hair hairstylist Erinn Courtney says that fine hair needs a brush that’s created to be able to reach all of its strands in one stroke, for styling or detangling. You don’t want anything that will stress your hair out while you’re working the brush through it. When shopping for a brush for fine hair, many of the the experts suggest looking for a detangling brush. “Find a detangling brush that doesn’t pull too hard or a boar-bristle brush that has natural bristles, which are gentler on hair and scalp,” recommends Mane Addicts artist Shelley Gregory. A detangling brush provides enough flow between bristles so you don’t have to pull your hair too much while detangling.
And Matrix Artistic Director Nick Stenson suggests looking for brushes that incorporate natural hair fibers, which allows for gentle and polished styling.
Start at the bottom and work you way up when you’re brushing your hair. “If you start at the top of your head, you create a huge knot or tangle that will make it so much harder to get out as you work your way down,” Polko says. “Also, with fine hair, I recommend brushing it to the part you want, rather than brushing it back first before creating your part. Then you just create a second detangling process.” And don’t forget to use a detangler or leave-in conditioner, which will help the brush glide through and prevent any breakage.

Brittleness and breakage are a thing of the past thanks to TikTok’s latest viral trend: nail slugging. Yep, it’s 100% a thing and I’m here to make a case for it. Before you start scratching your head in confusion, nail slugging kind of piggybacked off another viral trend you may be familiar with—skincare slugging. Each follows the same idea basically. Skincare slugging involves combatting dry skin by slathering your skin with a super heavy cream-based moisturizer or petroleum-based jelly to lock in the hydration from your skincare routine.
Nail slugging is similar in the way that it also aims to combat dry skin on the hands and repair dry or damaged cuticles. Does it work? Well according to a derm, yes. If you’re interested in learning more and why experts on TikTok are even making a case for this new nail-enhancing trend, keep reading below.
Similar to the viral skin slugging trend, nail slugging involves locking in serious hydration to the cuticles, nails, and hands. I know this might sound like a totally unnecessary step in your bodycare routine, but hear me out. Charles Puza, MD, a dermatologist on Tiktok, even made a case for it because it can strengthen your nails and helps protect them from damage. As someone who regularly gets gel X extensions, my ears definitely perked up when I heard that. Nail extensions are so cute, but can wreak complete havoc on your natural nails if you don’t let them breathe once in a while or take care of them properly. Take it from me—I’ve had to stop getting nail extensions for weeks at a time due to the breakage and damage they’ve caused. Ugh.
If you’re in the same boat, there’s a hole of inspiration for you to go down on nail slugging TikTok. There are plenty of different ways to slug and you can always put your own spin on it. Do what works for you! Personally, I’ve been following this full slugging routine on OPI’s official website. For this routine, you’ll start by exfoliating your hands with your choice of body scrub. If you have sensitive skin, be sure to select a gentle option. You can apply it on damp skin and gently massage it into the hands for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Then, you’ll want to apply cuticle oil to each of your cuticles and apply a hydrating hand cream and massage that in, too. Finally, you’ll lock it all in with a heavier balm-like hydrator like Aquaphor or Vaseline. It’s simple, effective, and will keep your hands so soft and hydrated. If you really want to go the extra mile, do this before bed and put on some overnight moisture gloves ($13) for a full spa-like experience. If you’re unsure which products to use for slugging, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered below.
