Spotify will use everything it knows about you to target podcast ads

Spotify

Spotify is going to start using its copious amounts of user data to run targeted ads inside its exclusive podcasts. Targeted advertising remains new ground for podcasts, and the announcement sets Spotify up to potentially branch out beyond its own shows and begin placing ads in other networks’ content. If it catches on, Spotify could become a full-blown podcast ad network.

With technology it’s calling Streaming Ad Insertion, Spotify says it’ll begin inserting ads into its shows in real-time, based on what it knows about its users, like where they’re located, what type of device they use, and their age, similarly to how the broader web operates. Spotify already automates dynamic ad insertion on the music side of its business, it’s now…

Omega Reveals All-New Stainless Steel Speedmaster Moonwatch 321

Only a venerable and long-respected watchmaker like Omega could get away with this in the age of smartwatches: rebooting a hand-wound watch based on a half-century-old design and attaching a five-figure pricetag.

And let’s face it—the legendary Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 is a horological masterpiece. Add an ageless stainless steel body to its iconic design and you have a true classic.

Omega unveiled the new version of the Moonwatch, inspired in part by a midcentury Speedmaster worn by astronaut Ed White—the first astronaut to ever complete a spacewalk, a milestone achieved four years before the Moon landing—on January 6th.

It retains many of its original specs: a throwback Omega logo, an elegantly-sized 39.7mm case, black dial, an anti-reflective scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal, and 50 meters of water resistance.

One of the most appealing aspects of a gorgeous watch like this is the merging of practicality and elegant design.

The former is reflected in additional complications like a seconds sub-dial, 30-minute and 12-hour recorders in addition to its sapphire-crystal caseback, which reveals the intricacies of the Calibre 321 movement at work inside. The finer design points are reflected by the white enamel tachymeter scale and black ceramic bezel.

Omega’s Stainless Steel Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 will be available in select stores in early 2020, and it retails for $14,100.

For the first time, physicists have successfully converted electrical signals into photons and radiated them in specific directions using a low-footprint optical antenna that is only 800 nanometers in size.
