NBA to Launch G League Team in Mexico City Starting 2020-21
The Mexico City Capitanes will join the NBA G League next season, becoming the league’s first club from outside the U.S. and Canada.

The NBA is continuing its international expansion and will launch an NBA G League team in Mexico City in 2020-21, the league announced Thursday.
Commissioner Adam Silver, speaking ahead of the Mavericks-Pistons game, which is being played Thursday night in Mexico City, announced that the Capitanes, a professional team currently competing in Mexico’s Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional, will join the NBA G League as the league’s first club from outside the U.S. and Canada.
It will have an initial five-year commitment from the league, playing its home games at the Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera in Mexico City.
“Bringing an NBA G League team to Mexico City is a historic milestone for the NBA which demonstrates our commitment to basketball fans in Mexico and across Latin America,” Silver said in a statement. “As the first G League franchise based outside of the U.S. and Canada, we look forward to welcoming Capitanes to the NBA family.”
A two-time Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional runner-up and League of the Americas’ Final Four team, Capitanes debuted in the 2017-18 season. In September 2019, the team took part in the NBA G League International Challenge.
“The NBA G League has long been focused on growing the game in Latin America and internationally. Having a team in Mexico City is an important step in realizing that vision,” added NBA G League president Shareef Abdur-Rahim. “I’m proud to welcome Capitanes to the G League and look forward to watching the team play at Gimnasio Juan de la Barrera next season.”
The Capitanes will be the league’s 29th team and will be the lone franchise without an NBA affiliation.
Lamar Jackson Breaks Michael Vick’s Rushing Record vs. Jets
Lamar Jackson broke Michael Vick’s single-season rushing record by a quarterback on Thursday night.

Lamar Jackson entered the Ravens’s “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Jets needing just 23 yards to make history.
And with just under nine minutes remaining in the first quarter, after already accumulating 22 yards on the ground, Jackson scampered for five yards, setting the record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season.
“It’s something that everybody can be excited about,” Vick told Baltimore’s official website before the game. “Breaking that record, it’s something I can honestly say I didn’t think I’d see for a long time. When Lamar was coming out of college, we had conversations. I used to tell him, ‘Play your game, be you.’ But I couldn’t even foresee Lamar doing this so quickly. It shows if you’re with the right teammates, the right coaches, the right organization, what can happen.”
Entering Thursday night, the Ravens’s QB had accounted for the most offensive touchdowns this season (35), leading the NFL in both passing touchdowns and rushing yards, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since Steve Young did so in 1994.
The dual-threat quarterback is on pace to become the first player in NFL history to record a 100-plus passer rating and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season. And his four games with 100-plus rushing yards is already the most by a quarterback since 1950. Jackson is likely going to set a number of other records when the 2019 regular season finishes.
One play after Jackson set Thursday’s rushing record, running back Mark Ingram scored a touchdown to help Baltimore take a 7-0 lead.

Lily-Rose Depp Wore the Denim to Try If You’re Bored With Basic Skinny Jeans
If you want straight-leg-jean inspiration, you can always turn to Lily-Rose Depp. She is basically the poster girl for cool, ’90s-inspired denim, and she just stepped out in a pair that’s becoming quite the trend among those in the know: cream straight-leg jeans.
This time of year, it can be tempting to just reach for the black or blue skinny jeans (yet again) and call it a day, but if you want to mix things up this season and try something a little different, this is the trend to embrace. We’ve been seeing a lot of cream straight-leg jeans on the market (and on Instagram) as of late, which confirms that the light hue isn’t just for summer. We especially love them with other neutrals like a camel coat or gray sweater.
