7 Shockingly Affordable Items I Just Spotted Our Editors Wearing

Walking into Who What Wear’s West Hollywood office each morning never fails to leave me filled to the brim with outfit inspiration. It’s a common occurrence to hear my co-workers doling out outfit compliments to one another or inquiring about where someone’s dress or top is from. Call me biased, but my fellow editors are some of the chicest around, so I was curious to see how they’d style the new pieces from our Who What Wear collection

With so many October new arrivals to choose from this month, my fellow editors and I weren’t shy about playing favorites. From the leather trend everyone’s talking about right now to the outfit-making sweaters that will earn you so many compliments, these are the only fall trends our editors have eyes for. If you’re familiar with our line, you’ll know that everything from the collection is (as always) available in sizes XS to 4X and under $60, so you can peruse the below editor-approved lineup and shop each piece without breaking your budget.

I’m such a sucker for a leather jacket, so I knew I wanted to try this on the moment I saw it. I have a theory that a cool leather jacket can take an outfit from 0 to 100 in seconds flat—and this one is certainly no exception. Unlike your standard moto-style though, our version has a slouchy, ’80s-inspired fit that plays into decade’s trending aesthetic. I’ve worn it nonstop recently and can’t tell you how many compliments I’ve received each time—and people are shocked to know it’s only $50. As far as details go, the tortoiseshell buttons and oversize sleeves are just a few of the things that make this piece look far more pricey than it actually is.

“Lately I’ve been super into florals (especially printed dresses!), so it was no surprise when I gravitated toward this WWW piece. Normally, I’d go for something a bit more figure-fitting—this dress is super loose and a wee bit tent-like—but I ended up loving how comfortable and flowy the overall feel and look was. The design felt really ’60s mod to me (I immediately thought of Jessica Paré’s Megan Draper circa Mad Men), so I paired it with my favorite tall white slouchy boots. (I purchased them from Revolve a few months ago, and they’re Tony Bianco.) I love this dress because it’s literally more comfortable than pajamas but looks pretty and professional so you can throw it on with almost anything and look put together. Oh, and I’m also obsessed with anything that has pockets, and this dress has pockets.”

“The second I saw this jacket, I knew I wanted to play-up the oversize fit with skinny jeans and a bodysuit. It easily adds an element of style and polish to an otherwise basic outfit. It’s pictured as a waist-length jacket, but since I’m only 5’1″, it actually falls mid-thigh, which I think makes it look even more sophisticated.”

“Leather separates are having a major moment this fall, and I’ve been looking for a cool shacket that I can wear my jeans and trousers for work. I love the slightly oversize fit of the WWW collection’s faux-leather burgundy shirt which looks (and feels) much more expensive than its price tag. It’s surprisingly soft and supple for faux leather and it’s easy to throw on over jeans and a tee or smart trousers and a blouse. It also looks really cool cinched at the waist with a belt.”

“I love the print on this cardigan because it makes any boring outfit a little trendier. Here, I paired it with a white tee and jeans, which I can wear to the office, weekend brunch with friends, or even just running errands—it makes me look more put together without even trying. I can also see myself wearing this on a casual night out with black jeans, too. And from a practicality standpoint, it’s warm but not too heavy, and the fabric is soft and not itchy at all.”

“I instantly gravitated toward the cool boxy shape and oversized fit of this shacket. Paired with a simple knit sweater, trouser-style jeans, and square-toe boots, it’s an outfit essential I’ll be wearing on repeat this fall.”

This Halloween, suit up as the stylish star of this classic ’60s crime film. Playing waitress-turned-criminal Bonnie Parker, Faye Dunaway made breaking the law look impossibly chic.

Seeking comfort and class this Halloween? Look no further than champion and Queen Serena Williams, in one of her iconic fashion looks. She’s serving up aces and style in this outfit, and so will you in her costume.

Finish off this two-piece ensemble—a white button-down and cropped black slacks—with a black bob wig and a swipe of red lipstick and you’re good to go as Uma Thurman’s famous run as Mia Wallace in this cult classic.

Apply some charcoal eyeliner and pin back your hair with a barrette. Then cozy up in some vintage fur and you’re unmistakably Margot Tenenbaum.

One of my favorite of the Spice Girls (and that’s a tough choice), Scary Spice means you can dress up in your beloved cat costume with a slight upgrade. Yes, you can easily nail this stylish costume with some ’90s-inspired leopard-print pieces that I bet you’ll find yourself wearing post-Halloween, too.

Why not dress up as everyone’s favorite fashion girl this Halloween? Pair a plaid skirt with a blazer or coordinating sweater, add a few handfuls of shopping bags, and call yourself Cher Horowitz.

Take one scroll through Alexa Chung’s coolest looks and it’s clear the Peter Pan collar is an It-girl staple. Find a collared dress in white and black to channel your inner Wednesday Addams for some classic Halloween fun.

This film has become the epitome of ’80s style. Whether you prefer to go with or without leg warmers, everyone will know you’re the star of Flashdance in an off-the-shoulder gray sweatshirt and big ’80s hair.

3 French-Girl Looks Our Editor in Chief Is Backing Big-Time for Fall

Our office is nonstop buzzing about all things French-girl style, from seasonal trends to classic outfit formulas. Who What Wear’s editor in chief, Kat Collings, is no exception to the banter, and she is, in fact, leaning into Parisian style to inspire her fall wardrobe. She always brings her outfit A-game to the office, so I asked her for some style advice for other occasions. The three outfits she shared (thanks to Rebecca Taylor, which apparently also got the memo and is completely inspired by flawless French-girl style) are naturally just the right mix of chic and effortless. See for yourself.

Tell me about some of the trends this look touches on…

This look is effortless in the way a lot of matching sets are but actually touches on a few very current trends. Skirt suits? Big. The bourgeoisie trend? Even bigger.

What’s the secret to styling a co-ord set?

My favorite part of matching pieces is that you’ve really got three outfits from one set. I’d experiment with styling them separately, perhaps a thin cardigan tucked into the skirt for the office and some baggier leather pants or even the trending leather Bermuda shorts with the jacket for an after-hours look.

What do you like most about these pieces?

I love that tweed will legit never go out of style. You can always count on it.

What do you look for in a work-specific outfit, and why does this fit the bill?

I look for equal parts professional polish and fashion-forward elements. If a look straddles the line like this one, you’ve got Who What Wear office outfit success.

Tell me about the new-season trends this look incorporates…

The slight volume at the sleeves is a romantic touch that nods to the ’80s puff-sleeve that trend that seems to have staying power.

What are some styling tips you have for these pieces?

That waistline is begging for a chain belt.

What do you like most about these pieces?

The mixed print on this dress is the standout feature to me. I love that it plays with print scale within one color palette.

What do you look for in a good date-night outfit, and why does this fit the bill?

Good date-night outfits make you feel confident, which is why dresses are often an easy choice. There’s no fussing with separates or keeping things tucked in. It’s one and done, as they say. Also any outfit with plenty of room for a big meal is a plus in my book.

What are some of your favorite date-night spots in L.A.?

Night + Market Song’s Thai street food is always lively if you want something that’s easy and casual but still packed with personality. Plus, they were super early adopters of the natural wine trend. Hot tip: The Silver Lake location is far superior, and we drive 20 minutes further just to go to that one. Bestia is also a go-to, but if you don’t want to trek to the warehouse district, Ronan has been scratching my Italian itch. They have a glorious menu item that’s a French dip crossed with a calzone.

Which new-season trends do these pieces touch on?

Leather for fall is a perennial trend, but this season the love for the luxurious trend has reached new heights.

What are some styling tips you have for these pieces?

Pairing something tougher like leather with a cozy knit creates a delightful contrast.

What do you like most about these pieces?

The tie detail at the ankle makes these leather pants stand out from the pack.

What do you look for in a good weekend outfit, and why does this fit the bill?

On the weekends, comfort is king, but there are still occasions where I want to look polished. Enter this soft sweater and looser-fitting leather trousers.

What are some L.A. places you could see yourself wearing this look to?

I’d wear this pairing to gather with my girlfriends for our monthly book club and for any dinners that require a slightly more elevated ensemble.
