EmRata Wore a Strappy Bikini Top With Trousers and Heels in NYC

You probably read a lot about transitional dressing this time of year—aka what to wear in between seasons as the weather slowly starts to change. Topics usually include how to style sweaters under dresses or T-shirts with coats, but Emily Ratajkowski just suggested a different transitional outfit: a bikini top with a coat, trousers, and heels. How’s that for something new?

Photographed in New York City en route to a pre-NYFW event, Ratajkowski brought together the best elements of summer and fall in one outfit. Naturally, her bikini top is from her own line; it’s the Inamorata Las Olas Top ($75), which also comes in a whopping 12 other colors should you wish to re-create this outfit. She teamed the bikini with more fall-appropriate pieces, including a Joseph coat and trousers, Merah Vodianova shoes, and a Hunting Season bag.

Oh, and did you notice a subtle styling trick? She tied her strappy sandals over her pant legs, which is a street style trend I spotted all over Copenhagen Fashion Week when I was there last month. Scroll down to see how EmRata pulled off wearing a bikini on the streets of NYC and shop her look.

This Fashion Girl Travels at Least Once a Month—and Always Packs These 3 Outfits

I’ve left for a trip completely prepared—my suitcase full of everything I’ll need and free of anything I won’t—a total of zero times in my life. I always forget something (or multiple somethings), whether it’s a pair or socks or an entire workout outfit… a major bummer when it turns out the hotel hosts sunset yoga classes.

In need of assistance, I turned to someone who can boast bragging rights in this particular category—someone who travels at least once a month for work alone. Enter: L.A.-based blogger Francis Lola, who kindly offered up packing advice as well as what she wears to travel, sight-see, and work out on the go.

It also turns out that her travel essentials include three great under-$55 looks from JoyLab at Target, so you won’t find me complaining.

It’s all about casual comfort for Lola when she’s exploring a new destination, which is why she’s so fond of this JoyLab set. “This look is super comfortable and easy to wear,” Lola says, adding that it doubles as an exercise outfit should the opportunity present itself. “Just sling over a belt bag and some sunnies for some added style.”

Lola points out that this sweatshirt is way cooler than most because the high slits on the side mean it’s practically begging to be tied up in all kinds of cool ways. It’s also light enough to be the perfect layering piece for this not-quite-summer, not-quite-fall time of year.

While there’s nothing wrong with taking a vacation from working out while on vacation, I personally find it fun to try out new exercise studios. Lola agrees, and while she’s used hotel gyms here and there, she prefers to stick to classes when she’s away from her beloved Prevail boxing studio in Los Angeles.

As for her workout outfits—they’re almost always a matching sports bra–and-legging set in black (because, sigh, sweat stains). “I have somewhat of a long torso, so I like my leggings to be super high. They also have to move with me!” she says.

“I usually get cold on the plane, so sweatpants are the way to go. I have to be comfortable when I’m traveling,” Lola tells me. I’m typically a hoodie girl at the airport, but the stylish jet-setter is certainly making a strong case for a cropped denim jacket instead.

When I ask what’s in the suitcase, I’m not surprised to hear about Lola’s organized packing routine. “I plan my outfits for each day because it helps me pack less,” she insists, to which I make a mental note to finally try on my next trip. Will report back.
