A 2 nm sized nanomachine able to spin and transfer its rotational energy

A collaboration of researchers in France, Japan and the United States have developed a new nanosized propeller which can act as gears. This propeller, when bound to a gold surface, can be activated through thermal, electrical or mechanical energy to spin unidirectionally either clockwise or counterclockwise. Its compatibility with solid state surfaces planar technology suggests this propeller can be used to build more efficient devices for electronics or mechanics applications.

Beyond Meat and KFC partner to test fried plant-based ‘chicken’

KFC

It seems like most fast-food chains are getting in on the fake meat trend. Beyond Meat and KFC announced today that they’re testing fried plant-based nuggets and boneless wings — Beyond Fried Chicken — at one Atlanta location on August 27th. Customers will receive a free sample when they purchase something that day, and KFC will ask for their feedback. Their thoughts will “be considered as KFC evaluates a broader test or potential national rollout,” KFC tells Bloomberg.

Multiple fast-food restaurants have tested and implemented plant-based food options on their menus recently. Burger King rolled out its Impossible Whopper to all of its US stores, and Subway announced plans to test the Beyond Meatball Marinara in 685 restaurants in the US…

‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’: Rey Looks Like She’s On the Dark Side in Thrilling New Trailer

Just what the heck is going on in the newest trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, released August 26 at Disney’s D23 Expo? First, we see iconic scenes from the previous eight movies, then comes the big reveal: Rey (Daisy Ridley) looking like a stone killer Sith Lord in a dark cloak, wielding a wild and wholly original new lightsaber.

Over it all, old footage and new, is a slow-paced, gravelly voice-over, possibly from Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

“We’ve passed on all we know,” the voice says, “A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight.”

Well, okay.

Things get stranger as we hear what is clearly Darth Vader breathing and the Emperor laughing. Then we see Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in combat and at the end, Rey unleashing one of the more badass lightsabers seen in any of the movies, a folding double-bladed version.

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

A red-bladed lightsaber at that. And that’s a big deal to Star Wars nerds, because the received wisdom across the films is only the Sith and any other adherents to the Dark Side of the Force like Kylo Ren use red lightsabers

Here’s the synopsis for Rise, such as it is: “The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron’s journey continues. With the power and knowledge of generations behind them, the final battle commences.”

We’ll know more about what’s going on when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is in theaters on December 20, 2019.

The Asus ZenBook Pro Duo will be available in the US starting on September 6th. It’s releasing two configurations, priced at $2,499 and $2,999. Both machines have the model’s signature “ScreenPadPlus” touchscreen above the keyboard, an Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card, a Thunderbolt 3 port, a 1TB NVMe SSD, and an OLED screen.

The two models differ when it comes to the processor, RAM, and display, however. The high-end model has Intel’s Core i9-9980HK CPU, 32GB of DDR4 2,666MHz RAM, and a 4K display, while the cheaper laptop uses an Intel Core i7-9750H processor, has 16GB of DDR4 2,666MHz RAM, and a more pedestrian FHD panel.

In case you missed out on the original announcement, this isn’t your standard laptop. It has two 4K displays: a…
