The 16 Under-$150 Items Celebs Are Prioritizing Right Now

It’s pretty much a fact that nobody can resist a good affordable find—not even celebrities are immune. Celebrities do, on the other hand, have access to things we commoners could only dream of, so when they choose to wear an affordable find, it means it must be good.

Recently I’ve noticed some of our favorite fashionable celebs wearing seriously cool under-$150 pieces—from Elsa Hosk’s chic swimsuit to Emily Ratajkowski’s pretty gold jewelry to Jasmine Tookes’s perfect summer dress. Each of these looks had me scouring the internet to shop these pieces, so I figured I’d share the wealth with you today. Below, I’ve outlined the 16 best under-$150 items celebrities are loving right now and shopped out each one if you feel so inclined to purchase.

Priyanka Chopra found the straw boater hat that has serious staying power. A chic style like this one from cool Australian brand Lack of Color pairs well with virtually everything.

You’ll wear a straw boater hat year after year.

EmRata has been Instagramming this pendant necklace (bearing her husband’s initial) on repeat as of late, and it’s the perfect piece for layering. At just $65, even adding multiple letters to your neck won’t put too big of a dent in your wallet.

Just add this to your favorite chain and you’re set.

It doesn’t get any chicer than a high-leg one-piece, and this $99 style Kourtney Kardashian is wearing is one of the most flattering I’ve come across. Investing in a timeless one-piece is a smart shopping move, as it never goes out of style, meaning you’ll wear it summer after summer.

How pretty is this eggplant color?

Jessica Alba found the chicest pointed-toe mules (perfect for an office look) that also happen to be quite affordable. When you think about the cost per wear of shoes like this that go with everything, it equates to a pretty smart investment.

Did I mention these come in six colors?

When I started writing this story, my intention was to focus on Elsa’s chic sweater, only to realize her pretty miniskirt is also under $150—win-win. This white cardigan is the perfect fall piece (one you can start wearing now if you leave it partially undone à la Hosk), while the printed skirt can also transition to next season seamlessly when paired with a chunky sweater.

I can already think of so many ways to style this one.

This floral print looks significantly more expensive than it is.

If you have a late-summer getaway or simply have a habit of collecting swimsuits (I’m guilty), then Elsa’s latest suit is something you need to have on your radar. The pretty white eyelet detail makes it stand out.

Shop the matching Edie Bottom ($108). The underwire makes this suit feel so retro—in a good way.

Jasmine Tookes’s floral minidress can be worn immediately with sandals and then transitioned into fall effortlessly by adding an oversize denim jacket and ankle boots. The little keyhole tie at the neckline is too pretty to pass up.

Okay, so this one isn’t originally under $150, but it’s on sale right now for $96, so I suggest you run, don’t walk.

Kylie Jenner’s cool asymmetrical earrings look significantly more expensive than they are thanks to their unique shape. These are non-basic earrings that surprisingly go with everything.

Not your average gold earrings.

Good news: You can buy Whitney Port’s entire outfit for under $150 thanks to H&M’s Conscious Collection. Her oversize denim jacket features a chic belted waist (which is a major fall trend, by the way), and her mom jeans are a staple wardrobe item no closet is complete without.

You can wear this one with or without the belt.

Everyone should own at least one pair of straight-leg jeans.

Emma Roberts found the romantic top that can be worn straight through fall. The puffy sleeves and floral detailing make this the perfect complement to your favorite jeans.

The ultimate summer-to-fall transition top.

You can always count on Gigi Hadid for a fun, affordable find. Almost every piece in her latest outfit is under $100, making these accessories the perfect way to give your wardrobe a quick update.

The perfect pair of everyday hoops.

This shape feels so fresh.

The easiest way to add a pop of color to your look.

The bike-short trend is still going strong, and you can’t beat this price point.

5 Uncomplicated Fall Trends My 59-Year-Old Mother Is Jazzed to Try

Before we dive in, let me give you the deets on my dear mother, Nancy. She’s 59 years old, lives in the Midwest, and is into fashion. Yes, (don’t roll your eyes) she’s not just a regular mom; she’s a cool mom. Given her sartorial curiosity, she’s sharpened her stylish and functional personal wardrobe through decades of trial and error. As a result, her signature looks skew more classic and practical rather than forward and experimental. While she’s always interested in “what the cool girls are wearing,” she often finds herself sticking to the more uncomplicated looks that can easily work into the timeless wardrobe she’s been curating forever.

Oh, I should’ve mentioned earlier, but she’s also extremely opinionated. Therefore, she isn’t afraid of speaking up if she isn’t feeling the new fussy trends the fashion scene seems to be into.

While there’s a sampling of fresh fall 2019 trends she wouldn’t dare go near (sorry, crayon tights), there’s certainly an offering of looks she’d test out in her rotation. With that in mind, I thought there would be no better person to share feedback on the accessible fall trends that would work for anyone’s classic wardrobe. Keep on scrolling to read what my mom had to say, and shop her picks for each of her must-try trends. You won’t be bored. After all, mother knows best.

Nancy’s Notes: “Who wouldn’t want to try this look? These sweaters are warm, comfortable, and cool. Plus, a cozy knit is so simple to toss on with just about anything like jeans or a skirt. Nothing else to say here.”

Nancy’s Notes: “I like a little drama (not a lot, just a touch), so I’m feeling this coat trend that’s timeless but has a little something extra.”

Nancy’s Notes: “This is by far my favorite trend of the season. I’m feeling a structured bag like this because it’s an easy way to make a personal statement while adding sophistication to any outfit.”

Nancy’s Notes: “So many words to describe this unexpected fall color—fresh, happy, positive, joy, and a feeling of self-confidence. Yes, yes, yes.”

Nancy’s Notes: “I’ve always liked adding a little leather to my fall outfits to bring a luxurious spin to it. The leather-on-leather look is definitely out there, but it feels cool. The other perks to leather (or faux-leather) pieces are that they never look old and often hold their value. Here for it.”

The Chicest Fall Outfits All Have This One Thing in Common

If there was one standout trend that ruled the fall 2019 runways, it was undoubtedly leather. The luxurious fabric made an appearance at practically every major designer’s show in the form of dresses, jumpsuits, trench coats, skirts, and head-to-toe pantsuits in a myriad of colors from merlot hues to deep purple and green. The fabric is being crafted in a refreshingly modern way for fall 2019—soft and malleable—making it way accessible, wearable, and seriously more fun than your average moto jacket.

Undoubtedly, the street style set has been quick to take on the trend—pairing the luxurious-looking fabric with everything from cool combat boots to soft knit sweaters, or wearing it as a stand-alone piece for a statement-making look.

If you don’t want to go for pricey real leather, this season there are plenty of high-quality faux-leather and vegan leather options (we love Nanushka) that feel just as soft and luxurious as the real thing.

Feeling inspired to try the trend? Scroll below as we share some of the coolest leather looks and tips on how to wear leather this season and into the next.

One of the easiest ways to take on the leather trend is with a pair of straight-leg black leather pants. Keep the look chic by pairing it with a puff-sleeve white blouse and minimal sandals (preferably in this season’s must-have square toe silhouette).

Swap your work blouse for a luxe-looking leather shirt instead. Opt for ecru tones to give the look a casual touch and keep the rest of the outfit in similar tonal colors—super chic.

Not your average frock—a leather shirtdress is guaranteed to garner a myriad of compliments, especially when paired with this season’s knee-high mock-croc boots. Opt for an fall khaki hue for a softer take than black.

Leather shorts-meets-culottes have been doing the rounds on Instagram this season with fashion girls pairing them predominantly with blazers and crisp white tank tops. It’s a refreshingly modern way of wearing leather that we can’t wait to try.

A leather shirtdress can be worn in multiple ways, but we’re partial to it worn open as a jacket over sophisticated whites. Accessorize the sleek black-an- white outfit with a pop of color as your handbag.

While many leather outfits we’ve featured are streamlined, minimal, or monochrome, there are also plenty of opportunities to have fun with your leather looks too. A chic leather skirt can act as a blank canvas to pair with colorful and playful prints. Try a black leather skirt with a floral blouse and trending zebra-print shoes for a statement look.

For an easy, effortless fall outfit, tuck in a relaxed white sweater into a pair of high-waisted straight-leg pants, and finish the look with this season’s trending chain-link necklace and animal print pumps.

You can’t beat a statement leather dress for the fall season ahead. Look for cool detailing, like puff shoulders, ruching, and zips for a modern look. Pair with sporty slides to give the look a casual edge.

5 Thumb-Stopping Fashion Items That Photograph Unusually Well

Have you noticed when scrolling through Instagram or looking at street style photos from various fashion weeks around the globe there are certain clothing items that seem to stand out from the rest? They catch the camera flash or the sun just right and seem to shine a bit brighter than everything else in the photo? Maybe it’s because looking at fashion photos all day is part of my job, but I definitely have—and couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was that made certain pieces photograph so well.

To dig deeper, I reached out to one of my favorite fashion photographers Vincent Elejorde (who regularly photographs some of the top influencers such as Camila Coelho, Jill Wallace, and Jenn Im) to hear his professional opinion on what pieces photograph best. “I’d have to say that a fashion item I love photographing is anything silk,” Vincent explains. “Whether that’s scarves, skirts, dresses—they all reflect light perfectly and bring depth and dimension to an image.”

Once I started researching Vincent’s tip, it became very clear to me how right he is. Below I’ve outlined some photo evidence of this phenomenon. From vintage-inspired scarves to chic slip skirts, this fabric catches my eye every time. I’ve also shopped out some key silk pieces in each category that are guaranteed to make your next photo stand out.
