These games support voice chat on the Nintendo Switch

Unlike the PS4 or Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch doesn’t make voice chatting easy. This is probably not something you want to hear if you want to talk trash with your friends while settling the score in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

That’s not to say that voice chat isn’t possible; it’s just much more limited, and the process differs depending on the multiplayer game that you want to play. WhatsApp and Discord are simple apps to use if you want to remove the uncertainty of being able to corral your friends, but not everyone wants to rely on outside apps or services.

What follows is a catalog of the games that allow voice chat as well as the accessories that make it easier. We’ll be monitoring Nintendo’s progress in building out voice chat…

Scientists uncover key new molecules that could help to tackle tooth loss and regeneration

New research published in the Journal of Dental Research has shed light on the science behind the formation of the periodontal ligament, which helps keep the tooth stable in the jawbone. This improved understanding will help scientists work towards regenerating the tissues that support teeth. This is a peer-reviewed, observational study conducted in rodent teeth and human cells.

Deep snow cover in the Arctic region intensifies heat waves in Eurasia

Variations in the depth of snow cover in the Arctic region from late winter to spring determines the summer temperature pattern in Eurasia, according to new research. In particular, deeper-than-usual snow cover in Western Russia enhanced the likelihood of summer heat waves in Europe and Northeast Asia in recent years.

How NASA’s busiest Florida spaceport is preparing for Hurricane Dorian

Photo by Bill Ingalls / NASA

Hurricane Dorian is slowly making its way toward the eastern coast of Florida, prompting NASA’s premier spaceport, Kennedy Space Center (KSC), to prep for the coming storm. Employees at the spaceport are used to bracing for hurricanes, and they have already started moving some key hardware to safety before Dorian arrives.

Right now, the more than 8,000 employees at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral are operating under an internal status known as HURCON IV, which means that the area expects to experience hurricane-level winds exceeding 75 miles per hour within the next three days. Dorian is predicted to hit the Florida coast on Monday, September 2nd, possibly as a Category 4 storm with winds exceeding 140 miles per hour. That would…

Netflix’s new Dark Crystal reboot reaches back to the gentle fantasy of Fraggle Rock

There are so many streaming options available these days, and so many conflicting recommendations, that it’s hard to see through all the crap you could be watching. Each Friday, The Verge’s Cut the Crap column simplifies the choice by sorting through the overwhelming multitude of movies and TV shows on subscription services and recommending a single perfect thing to watch this weekend.

What to watch

“The Gorg Who Would Be King,” a 1987 episode of the HBO children’s series Fraggle Rock, and one of the last installments of the show’s original five-season run. The story follows Junior, the prince of his giant-sized race, as he shrinks down to the size of a Fraggle, and gets a lesson from the much smaller species about what it means to be…

Sarah Connor Vows To Destroy Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 In ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Trailer

Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor promises to annihilate Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 in the latest trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate

The trailer dropped on August 29, which, as Connor notes, is the 12-year anniversary of what would have been the day that Skynet began its systematic elimination of the human race.

“August 29th, 1997 was supposed to be Judgement Day,” she tells Mackenzie Davis’ Grace, a soldier-assassin converted into a cyborg and sent from the future.

“Saved three billion lives. Enough of a resume for you?”

Grace reminds her that, despite what Connor came to believe in T2, fate is not set.

“You may have changed the future,” Grace says. “But you won’t change our fate.”

We also see Grace beat the hell out of (but not kill!) multiple people, Gabriel Luna’s “bad” Terminator take a lot of lead to the face, and the T-800 train Natalia Reyes’ Dani Ramos to battle cybernetic organisms.

Oh, and Connor still does not trust Ahnuld’s “good” Terminator.

“When this is all over, I am going to kill you,” she promises. “I understand,” it responds.

Whatever the plot is, Terminator: Dark Fate definitely looks awesome. We’ll find out for sure when it blasts into theaters on November 1.
