Eddie Murphy Reportedly In $70 Million Talks With Netflix For Stand-Up Comedy Comeback

Eddie Murphy in “Beverly Hills Cop”

Eddie Murphy fans should prepare to be “Delirious”, as the reclusive comedy legend could be returning to the stand-up comedy stage.

Murphy, who was the most successful and revered stand-up comic of the 1980s, is reportedly in talks with Netflix for a series of stand-up specials, sources close to Murphy tell TMZ

And the deep-pocketed streaming network is reportedly dangling a massive $70 million paycheck for Murphy’s return.

Eddie Murphy; Jerry Seinfeld

TMZ says it is “unable to firmly confirm the exact figure” at this point, but that mega payday is actually in line with what comedians of the Beverly Hills Cop star’s celebrity status can demand from Netflix, reports The New York Post.

Dave Chappelle raked in $20 million for each of his three award-winning specials, Chris Rock banked $40 million for his two-show package and Amy Schumer reportedly asked for — and received — more than $11 million for her last Netflix showcase.

Murphy also has a stellar record of making comedy classics, including 1983’s Eddie Murphy: Comedian and his red leather suit-clad stand-up special Delirious that same year. (Though admittedly some of his racier bits from those specials would be widely criticized by 2019 standards.)

The former Saturday Night Live standout has always been a massive stand-up draw. His blockbuster 1987 standup film Eddie Murphy Raw grossed $50.5 million on an $8 million budget, making it the most financially successful standup film of all time.

Murphy recently stoked speculation of his return to the standup stage on Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix.

“You know that you not doing stand-up drives people crazy — you know that, right?” Seinfeld asked Murphy.

Murphy admitted that the “last time he saw” Don Rickles shortly before his death in 2017, the iconic insult comic pushed him to do stand-up comedy again.

“I’m gonna do it again. It’s just, you know, everything has to be right,” Murphy told Seinfeld. “The only way I can get, like, an act is I gotta go to the clubs and work out.”

The Hennessey Goliath Is a Menacing 6×6 Monster Truck

Hennessey Performance, a Texas-based performance tuning house and purveyor of some of the coolest custom rides around, has officially delivered on the long-awaited Goliath 6×6 pickup—hear it roar below:

No longer a rendering, the brawny off-roader has finally arrived to join the Ford F-150 Raptor-based VelociRaptor 6×6 in Hennessey’s six-wheeled lineup. The Goliath started out as a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss Z71 before receiving a third axle to accommodate an extra pair of custom 20-inch wheels and 37-inch off-road tires.

An new roll bar, rear suspension,  6×6-spec bed and eight-inch lift kit are also included in the package. There are also custom bumpers in the front and rear and “Hennessey” embroidery on the interior’s seats.

Sadly, the engine isn’t equipped with a supercharger, which means it doesn’t produce the originally promised 705 horsepower.

But a cold air intake and stainless steel exhaust does boost the 5.3-liter V8’s performance up from 355 to 450 hp, and Hennessey offers a variety of optional upgrades if that’s still not enough output, as Uncrate notes.

Bob Berard, the same Wisconsin potato farmer who commissioned Hennessey to endow his Rolls-Royce Wraith with 850 freakin’ horsepower, secured the first Goliath 6×6. The other 24 will be sold for $375,000 with the company’s standard three-year, 36,000 warranty.

For a badass custom truck that’s not quite as expensive, check out Roush Performance’s 2019 F-150 Nitemare.

Marvel ‘Blade’ Reboot to Star Oscar-Winner Mahershala Ali

Mahershala Ali; Wesley Snipes as Blade

San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) has been full of announcements, trailer drops, and surprises—especially from Marvel. Here’s one of the most interesting: Blade is getting a reboot and this time the half-human, half-vampire badass will be embodied by intense two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, not Wesley Snipes.

Ali showed up at SDCC in a hat bearing the movie’s logo and seemed to enjoy the enthusiastic response to the announcement, which happens in the video below.

Wesley Snipes played Blade in the 1998 version of the movie and continued on through two more installments before his tax issues put the brakes on his career for a time.

It’s probably no surprise that Snipes wasn’t asked back to do the role, either—the filming of the third movie, Blade: Trinity was infamously full of offscreen drama.

In a 2012 interview with the A.V. Club, comedian and co-star Patton Oswalt said “it was a very troubled production. Wesley [Snipes] was just fucking crazy in a hilarious way. He wouldn’t come out of his trailer, and he would smoke weed all day.”

Oswalt also said Snipes “tried to strangle the director, David Goyer,” among other things.

Mahershala Ali, however, is known for multi-layered, sensitive performances and won Academy Awards for Moonlight and Green Book in addition to turning in a riveting lead performance in season three of HBO’s True Detective.

Notably, CBR reports Ali actively campaigned for the role. Marvel boss Kevin Feige wasn’t about to turn him down, either, telling The Hollywood Reporter that “when Mahershala calls, you answer.”

There’s no release date or official title for the Blade reboot, but we’re ready when Marvel is.
