‘Snowballs’ Is The Cooling Underwear You Never Knew You Needed

Summer is a decidedly, uh, swampy time for many men and the summer of 2019 has been especially hot and humid throughout most of the northern hemisphere. Dress loose and in light fabrics all you want, eventually the heat hits you in the crotch.

It’s a uniquely male problem and one underwear company has the solution to that and more. Snowballs basically wants to ice your ‘nads back into the comfort—and fertility—zone.

From The Sun by way of the New York Post:

Over on Amazon, a brand called Snowballs Underwear is selling “scientifically-backed cooling underwear”.

The underwear comes with ice packs — dubbed “SnowWedges” — that men are able to put in the freezer before popping into a pouch that sits over the groin.

According to SnowBalls, the “SnowWedges” are ready for use after less than an hour in the freezer. After that, they’ll keep him cool for 30 minutes.

Being able to walk around with your ‘nads air-conditioned without risking indecent exposure is pretty appealing. And Snowballs claims their product can do more than just frost the funk away from your nether regions.

In fact, the company’s primary motivation behind this innovation was… family.

From the Snowballs “About” page:

Male infertility accounts for roughly 40% of all infertility, but it’s still tough to sound cool when talking about it. That’s why we loved the name we had dreamed up for our still-imaginary product: Snowballs!

Some thought it was inappropriate, but for us it was just the punch line of the story we were dying to tell. You see, we had both been through the “fertility factory” with our wives, losing our money and our minds until we began to look more closely at the actual causes of infertility…and became obsessed by heat.

What’s the deal with heat and problems with your little swimmers? According to DontCookYourBalls.com (they sell a sperm count tracker), “If sperm are exposed to elevated temperatures, they begin to die.” That reduces the sperm’s ability to swim, basically. And “If the exposure to heat is prolonged, it can affect sperm production processes, causing the body to produce fewer sperm, many of which may be abnormally shaped.”

That’s a pretty good argument for icing up your boys whenever possible. Unless, that is, you don’t want kids, in which case, let ’em fry.

If you’re really ready to pop some ice pads in your shorts and go, get frosty with Snowballs today.

Epix has greenlit a six-episode adaptation of Slate’s hit podcast Slow Burn, a series that explored the Watergate scandal and how it eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Podcast host Leon Neyfakh will be an executive producer and narrator for the series.

During this year’s Television Critics Association press tour in July, Epix announced that the six-episode series would premiere on November 24th, 2019.

Slate launched the eight-episode podcast series in 2017 which drew parallels between the slowly-building scandal that tanked the Nixon Administration, and that of the ongoing investigations into President Donald Trump. The series has earned widespread acclaim, and recently took home the Podcast of the Year at…

I’m bad at Fortnite, and I’m okay with that

Fortnite is two years old this weekend, and has been the most popular game in the world for at least the last year of its existence. My friends and I began playing it last summer as it exploded in popularity; we saw the game go from its roots as a goofy add on to Epic’s player-versus-environment shooter to its current status as a cross-cultural social space that just so happens to have a battle royale mode. And while I’ve certainly gotten better at playing the game, I’m still bad at it.

Which is fine! Really. For me, the fun of Fortnite is when I’m playing well with my teammates and suddenly I’m fluent — suddenly my builds are solid and my aim is true. It’s a joyful thing for me, because it’s in those moments I realize I’ll never be a…

This behind-the-scenes documentary shows how Oats Studios filmed its Anthem short film

Image: Oats Studios

In February, Neill Blomkamp’s Oats Studios released a short, live-action teaser film for BioWare’s open-world shooter, Anthem. That film tells a short story that highlights some of the world’s larger story elements, and features some great, live-action visuals that brought it to life. Now, Oats has released a lengthy behind-the-scenes documentary that showed off how it created the short film.

The 28 minute documentary shows off the incredible effort that went into producing that 3:45 short film: it involved elaborate sets, shoots in Spain and in Hawaii’s rainforests, suits of armor, and plenty of CGI and stunt-work.

In the documentary, Blomkamp also explains why he was attracted to the project: “it’s extremely interesting to me…
