Jay-Z Is Officially The World’s First Billionaire Rapper

Jay-Z popping a bottle of his Armand de Brignac champagne, worth an estimated $310 million alone.

Jay-Z once rapped “I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man.” He definitely wasn’t kidding.

The hip-hop icon is also a champagne and liquor mogul, part-owner of Uber, the boss of Tidal streaming music service and he runs a sports management company—among other lucrative ventures.

So it’s no wonder that Forbes has finally crowned him the world’s first billionaire rapper.

“Less than a decade later, it’s clear that Jay-Z has accumulated a fortune that conservatively totals $1 billion, making him one of only a handful of entertainers to become a billionaire—and the first hip-hop artist to do so,” Forbes reports.

Beyonce and Jay-Z

The wealth-obsessed media company ran through the assets that got Jay-Z to the historic billion-dollar mark.

  • a $310 million full ownership stake in Armand de Brignac champagne
  • $100 million worth of D’Usse cognac
  • a $70 million stake in Uber
  • his ownership of the music streaming service Tidal
  • his $70 million art collection, including pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat
  • his ownership of the Roc Nation sports management company
  • $50 million in assorted real estate holdings (including a $26 million East Hampton estate and an $88 million Bel Air estate) and his music catalog.

Jay-Z, who grew up as Shawn Carter in a Brooklyn housing project, is also married to the mega-rich Beyonce, which probably doesn’t hurt his bottom line.

Meanwhile, CNN reports that rapper and producer Dr. Dre—who claimed he was hip-hop’s first billionaire after selling Beats Music, the high-end headphones and streaming music service to Apple—actually never broke the billion-dollar mark with that famous mega-deal.

It’s estimated that while that blockbuster deal pushed Dre’s net worth to about $1.1 billion, state and local taxes ultimately nudged it to just below the $1 billion-dollar mark.

Still, Dre isn’t doing too shabby, either. Last year Forbes reported that the former NWA mastermind tied with Nas for the world’s 7th-highest-paid rapper. But then again, Jay-Z was in the top-earning slot, followed by Diddy and Kendrick Lamar.

Ben & Jerry’s Is Planning To Make CBD-Infused Ice Cream

With legal cannabis and cannabis-related products spreading throughout the northern hemisphere, this was inevitable: Ben & Jerry’s, the Vermont-based ice cream brand long identified with hippie-era stoner culture, is making its own brand of CBD-infused ice cream.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a chemical component found in the cannabis plant which is related to THC but doesn’t get you high. It’s supposedly got a number of therapeutic applications anyway and has been used for a variety of issues, including chronic pain, anxiety, inflammation, and depression.

So Ben & Jerry’s wants to enhance ice cream’s already well-known therapeutic ability—previously rooted solely in its calorie-dense deliciousness.

Here’s a portion of Ben & Jerry’s statement about their new ingredient:

You probably already know that we’re fans of all things groovy — think: Half Baked and Dave Matthews Band Magic Brownies.

So it’s no surprise that we can’t wait to get into the latest food trend: cannabidiol, or CBD. We are open to bringing CBD-infused ice cream to your freezer as soon as it’s legalized at the federal level.

Notice that qualification, “as soon as it’s legalized?” Yeah, there’s one little hitch, as Ben & Jerry’s admits: “Currently, the FDA prohibits adding CBD to food and beverages.”

Once it’s legal, though, Ben & Jerry’s will have you and their associates and contractors in Vermont covered:

We want to use sustainably-sourced CBD from our home state of Vermont. After all, values-led sourcing is an important part of our process when we churn up new ice cream innovations. By using high-quality, sustainably-sourced ingredients, we support our linked prosperity model, ensuring that everyone involved with making our flavors — from the cocoa farmers to the Scoop Shop scoopers — is positively impacted.

We source our brownies from Greyston Bakery, which has an innovative open-door hiring policy, and our cookie dough comes from Rhino Foods, which employs refugees and sources its dairy locally from the St. Albans Co-op.

How soon might we see that happy-looking little green tub in the freezer section? That isn’t clear, but you can tell the FDA how you feel about it between now and July 2, 2019.

Let’s admit it, this is a match made in chilled-out ice cream heaven, and the government needs to know if you’re into it.

Michelle Pfeiffer Created the Coolest New Fragrance Line of 2019

Welcome to Second Life, a podcast spotlighting successful women who’ve made major career changes—and fearlessly mastered the pivot. Hosted by Hillary Kerr, co-founder and chief content officer at Who What Wear, each episode will give you a direct line to women who are game changers in their fields. Subscribe to Second Life on iTunes, and stay tuned. We’ll be releasing new episodes on Mondays.

Michelle Pfeiffer will always be one of the most popular and skilled actors of any generation, but that doesn’t mean she can’t add another career path to her résumé. Pfeiffer’s new endeavor is a fragrance line that’s far from the typical celebrity scent, and that, along with the story of her career and her best advice, is exactly what she sat down with Second Life host Hillary Kerr to discuss.

Believe it or not, following high school in Orange County in California, Pfeiffer took a job as a court stenographer before eventually deciding that she’d like to give acting a shot. Fast-forward to a prolific career that includes films like ScarfaceThe Fabulous Baker Boys, Batman ReturnsDangerous Minds, One Fine Day, and so many more, in addition to producer credits and a plethora of nominations and awards. But in April, Pfeiffer did something completely different and became a fragrance entrepreneur, releasing Henry Rose, a line of five unisex fragrances that has been 10 years in the making.

Pfeiffer’s company isn’t the average celebrity fragrance line. One of the many things that sets it apart from the pack is the fact that the company is completely clean and transparent, meaning that 100% of the ingredients are shared. It’s free of every substance on the Environmental Working Group’s unacceptable ingredient list.

As you could guess, the story of Pfeiffer’s career is wildly interesting. Head to iTunes and subscribe to Second Life to find out how she went from the court stenographer to actress and fragrance entrepreneur.
