‘Mission: Impossible’ 7 and 8 Get Official Release Dates

Hot on the heels of 2018’s wildly successful Mission Impossible: Fallout, Paramount Pictures has set release dates for back-to-back sequels in the action-packed saga starring Tom Cruise as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt.

The studio announced Friday that M:I 7 will arrive on July 23, 2021, followed by M:I 8 on August 5, 2022, according to Variety

Academy Award-winning director and Mission: Impossible writer Christopher McQuarrie—who also co-wrote the Top Gun: Maverick screenplay—will return to direct.

“We couldn’t be more excited to build on the massive success of ‘Mission: Impossible — Fallout’ by reteaming with Chris and Tom on these next two films, following two successful collaborations,” said Paramount Pictures CEO Jim Gianopulos.

It’s definitely a power move on Paramount’s part—Variety reports that Fallout grossed a franchise-leading $790 million last year. The sixth Mission Impossible movie also holds a very “fresh” 97 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Here’s the review-aggregation website’s critical consensus:

Fast, sleek, and fun, Mission: Impossible – Fallout lives up to the “impossible” part of its name by setting yet another high mark for insane set pieces in a franchise full of them.

We can hear that earworm of a theme song already.

Oh, Winter!

Joy San humorously illustrates the joys and annoyances of winter weather, including slippery ice, hot cocoa, and sweating on the subway.
