Super Bowl LIII was decidedly low on explosive touchdown plays, but with plenty of sparkling wine on ice, the New England Patriots‘ championship celebration was no less sweet. (Or was it actually “dry”?) An inside source (aka a representative from importer Sovereign Brands) tells Unfiltered that the Pats were supplied with 100 bottles of Luc Belaire brut sparkling wine for the big game. If the name “rings” a bell, that’s because the 2018 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors were spraying it all over their fans in Oakland last summer.
Owner Robert Kraft also broke out cigars in the locker room—and not just any cigars. These were Padrón 50th Anniversary cigars, packed inside a special Patriots-themed version of the Padrón 50th Anniversary Limited Edition humidor. (Sister publication Cigar Aficionado has the full story.)
Whether it was just because the Patriots know how to act like they’ve been there (five times) before, or just the result of a real slog of a contest, there wasn’t a great deal of shouting or bottle-spraying going on in the locker room after the game. The 300-MPH Hennessey Venom F5 Is Coming Next Year, And It Won’t Be Electric
Hennessey Performance has promised that their Venom F5 will be able to hit 300 mph, which would make it the fastest road-going vehicle ever made.
We won’t have to wait much longer to see that glorious automotive feat realized, because the finalized production version is coming next year after the first prototypes are built in June, according to Top Gear.
The Texas-based tuning house also confirmed that the high-octane hypercar will be produce ungodly amounts of horsepower via a twin-turbo, 7.6-liter V8, and NOT electricity.
“If the market is moving towards electrification, we are the old-school guys who believe in a maximum power to weight ratio delivered via a 1,600 bhp-plus, twin-turbo V8 internal combustion engine,” Hennessey Performance founder John Hennessey told Top Gear.
And get this: the Venom F5 could even top out at above 300 mph.
“300 mph is kind of the baseline,” Hennessey told Top Gear in an earlier interview. “That’s where we would like to begin.”
Even though a car with that capability would totally annihilate current competitors like the the 278-mph Koenigsegg Agera RS or the 261-mph Bugatti Chiron, Hennessey still respects his rivals.
“I love that…the Koenigsegg team are always pushing themselves to build faster cars,” he said. “And don’t forget about Bugatti—if they decide to build a Chiron Super Sport you can bet that it will be a contender.”
Given Hennessey Performance’s impressive pedigree, which includes mad builds like the world’s fastest Cadillac and the record-breaking 1,000-hp “Exorcist” Camaro, it’s no surprise that almost all 24 of the $1.6 million Hennessey Venom F5s have already been claimed.
We can’t wait to see what this next-gen hypercar can do to a track.
Hyundai Made Fun of Vegans in Its Super Bowl Spot and PETA Is Furious
Sandwiched between plays of the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever and an admittedly lackluster halftime performance by Maroon 5, there were the customary multimillion dollar commercials.
Nearly everyone agrees that brands played it safe with this year’s Big Game spots. Well, everyone except PETA. It seems People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals took issue with Hyundai implying that eating vegan “Beetloaf” sucks more than than getting a root canal, showing up for jury duty, or taking the middle seat on an airplane. Actor Jason Bateman plays a bellhop on an elevator that travels down, visiting floors filled with universally disliked experiences along the way. At the very bottom is “Car Shopping” which is where the South Korean automaker plugs their “Hyundai Shopper Assurance” service.
PETA’s problem was with the “Vegan Dinner Party” floor. The organization voiced its displeasure on Twitter and suggested that viewers by a Mercedes-Benz Smart car instead of a Hyundai.
“The trend of 2019 is taking the elevator UP to vegan dinner parties (and an Earth, heart, & animal-friendly lifestyle),” read the organization’s tweet, “Instead of buying a car from people with outdated ideas, we suggest a vegan Smartcar by Mercedes. Great mileage & acceleration, turns on a dime.”
Responses to PETA’s tweet poured in, with many users claiming that animal rights group has no sense of humor.
Others appeared to agree with PETA’s point of view.
Someone at Hyundai USA went into damage control mode and posted a recipe for the “Beetloaf” seen in the ad with the words, “We actually love vegan food and are glad it’s going more mainstream.”
For what it’s worth, PETA recommends seven different Hyundai models with leather-free interiors on its website.
Maybe a bite of “Beetloaf” will help those angry vegans get the bad taste out of their mouth.

Timex and Todd Snyder Team Up For Mid-Century-Inspired Everyday Watch
The Timex–Todd Snyder collab has always been about a relaxed blend of casual modern design with a kind of old-school minimalism, and their new release, the Mid-Century, might be the best expression so far of that aesthetic. 3 New Trends From the Copenhagen Brand Everyone Wants to Wear
Cecilie Bahnsen‘s signature cloudlike dresses have made her the darling of Copenhagen Fashion Week, an increasingly important part of the fashion calendar, so I was more than a little excited to see her creations up close and personal. As flurries of snow began to fall outside, Bahnsen presented her F/W 19 collection to the tune of hauntingly beautiful music by Danish electronic composer Trentemøller, which perfectly matched the brooding yet charming clothes coming down the runway.
“We do not aim to reinvent ourselves each season,” Bahnsen told Who What Wear during Copenhagen Fashion Week. “Each season we refine and evolve the silhouettes, details, and fabric to fit perfectly with the season’s mood.” For F/W 19, that mood is a bit edgier than before. “This season is darker, moodier compared to previous seasons,” Bahnsen told me. “I have been inspired by repetition and the way assembling materials together can create a raw and detailed unit yet look like something that is coming undone, unraveling.”
A key silhouette, Bahnsen told me, was a vest layered over a sheer dress—a look she believes will be a favorite of her audience. “The vest is smocked, which gives the floral motif an almost distorted look compared to the more clean and clear underlay dress,” Bahnsen told me. Along with sinister black numbers, Bahnsen also added in some dreamy whites and florals—the latter of which was inspired by “decaying wallpaper.” But every floaty outfit was grounded with black socks and black sneakers—a cool juxtaposition to take note of. Voluminous quilted dresses are yet another trend I spotted from Bahsen’s show—don’t be surprised if they pop up on the street style scene in no time.
All in all, Bahnsen has a singular vision for her brand, and the newest collection was no exception. “I want to design dresses that can make you feel feminine, effortless, and empowered, and I think this is what resonates well with both the women of Copenhagen as well as the rest of the world,” Bahnsen told me.
