The SAG Awards 2019: The 20 Best Beauty Looks We Saw on the Red Carpet

In addition to helping us forget about the inevitable Sunday Scaries, we appreciate award season for the countless jaw-dropping beauty looks we see on the red carpet. Sure, “Who are you wearing?” might be the most common question asked of celebrities as they make their way over the ruby red stretch, but we’re just as curious (and perhaps a little obsessed with) what and who they’re wearing on their lids, cheeks, and lips—not just their necks, bodies, and feet. Who did their hair? What’s her exact lip color? How on earth did that glitter stay in place? We want to know everything.

These days, a celebrity’s red carpet beauty vibe is just as pivotal to a designer ensemble as their jewelry or dress, so we’re dedicating one story to the best-of-the-best beauty moments to grace the 2019 SAG Awards red carpet. Plus, since we get the inside scoop from all of the beauty brands, hairstylists, and makeup artists behind said looks firsthand, we can easily answer every burning question about makeup, hair, even a celebrity’s magical midwinter (and somehow totally believable) tan. Ahead, the 20 best beauty looks we spotted on the red carpet of this year’s SAG Awards. Keep scrolling—your beauty rut doesn’t want you to miss this.

Actress Lucy Boynton makes a moment out of a demure half ponytail (with a chic black ribbon, obviously) and head-turning liner placement. Plus, if you’re like us, you’ll be getting your hands on a tube of Victoria’s Secret Major Lashes Full Volume Mascara ($14) ASAP. It’s the exact formula makeup artist Jo Baker used on the actress.
We always anxiously Amy Adams’ red carpet arrival. Here, she keeps the focus on her face (dramatic lashes and a flash of liner) with her romantic updo.
Actress Sofia Hublitz’s bold red lip and warm, sunset-washed lids are a bold departure from her character on Ozark. And frankly, we’re obsessed.
Sandra Oh may be nominated for her starring role in Killing Eve, but we’d say she’s doing a pretty great job of killing her hair game too. Her pretty twirled bangs offer the perfect face-frame. “I worked my STARRING Shooting Star Texture Meringue ($52) into Sandra’s dry hair and gave it a light blow dry to prep it for curling with an iron,” explains celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson. I used a larger barrel iron to then define her naturally curly texture.”
Lady Gaga adorns her metallic-set eyelids with eye-brow grazing lashes, slicked platinum strands, and the most delicious of wine-stained lips.
Almost gothic in inspiration, Alison Brie’s stark center part is a bold accent to her ink-rimmed eyes, long lashes, and a perfectly chosen peachy-nude pout.
Sophia Bush typically wears her hair down or slicked back in a pin-tight bun or pony, so this pillowy updo (secured with a super-chic velvet headband, no less), is making our world go ’round. Her peach eyeshadow and the bold liner along her lower lashline only add fuel to the fire.
Actress Yara Shahidi never leaves us disappointed, and as soon as we saw her exit the limo with that Fendi dress, we knew she’d have an A+ beauty aesthetic to match. And yes, it literally did match. You either loathe it or love it, but we happen to love a major pink makeup moment.
To accent the gorgeous and romantic draping of her dress, actress Laverne Cox kept her honey-hued highlights swept off her shoulders in braids and curls for a classic hair aesthetic.
It may be subtle, but if you look closely you’ll see the rose gold shimmer of shadow beneath and atop Emma Stone’s upper and lower lashlines. A complimentary shade of scarlet lipstick keeps the impact grounded in addition to her signature red strands. We’re officially entranced.  To achieve her simple but beautiful updo, hairstylist Mara Roszak worked Suave’s through the actress’s damp hair before blowing it out and using velcro rollers to add extra volume.
Mandy Moore’s cheekbones and pristine blush application look almost airbrushed, no? A satin, pretty pink pout and the smokiest of smokey eyes also caught our attention on the red carpet. Of course, it’s also worth taking notes on her ultra-sleek strands, courtesy of both T3’s SinglePass Luxe Flat Iron ($180) and a cult-classic—Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Detangler ($14).
We may have lost our breath when we saw Susan Kelechi Watson’s silhouette draped in bright yellow on the red carpet, but we may have actually fainted when we saw her green- and turquoise-adorned lid. We’re all for big beauty risks on the red carpet, and here, the actress executes with a perfect ten.
We don’t see Elisabeth Moss take huge beauty risks often, but we’re giving the actress major snaps for this teal liner look that offsets her buttery blond hair color with well-played drama. Looking to emulate her amazingly shiny strands? Hairstylist Sunnie Brooke used Biolage All-In-One Coconut Infusion Multi-Benefit Spray ($20) to achieve top-notch luster.
You know a beauty look is amazing when you’re not distracted by sparkling emerald earrings. Case in point: Samira Wiley. Not only do we want those lashes for our own selfish purposes next Friday night, but we also want to emulate the actress’s stealthy dash of smoldering liner—with a hint of glitter—underneath said lashes.
Ahhh, Margot Robbie. When it comes to flawless skin that looks like it’s been touched by an angel, (oh, and always a shimmering lid), the actress just can’t be beaten.
Lupita Nyong’o, where do we even start? The actress’s practically dripping, patent red lip? Bead-studded braids? Rose-hued sparkling liner? Slow. Clap.
We’re not sure what we’re more obsessed with—Gemma Chan’s perfect contour and highlight (is she even human?!) or her pretty swept back bun. (Psst, Dove’s beloved Care Between Washes Invisible Dry Shampoo $7 was a key styling player here!) To achieve her gleaming radiance, celebrity makeup artist Monika Blunder took inspiration from Audrey Hepburn and deposited Sulwhasoo’s Multi Cushion Highlighter ($40) to the actress’s sky-high cheekbones.
Sorry, but we can’t resist….Emily Blunt’s swipe of bubble-gum pink lipstick is practically perfect in every way. As are her slick, center-parted strands. To achieve the look, hairstylist Laini Reeves used Dyson’s Supersonic Hair Dryer Professional Edition on Blunt’s damp strands and ultimately finished off the style with gloss and hold thanks to Joico’s JoiShape Shaping & Finishing Spray ($17).
Danai Gurira exemplifies shining minimalism at its finest. Since her Ralph & Russo dress (and all those chest-hugging feathers!) rightly took center stage, the actress kept it simple but superb with a glossy nude lip, coats, and coats of mascara, and the most perfect of arches. Oh, and to keep her strands locked in place, hairstylist Larry Sims used Biolage Curl Defining Styling Butter ($20).
Sydelle Noel’s burgundy lids, glowing skin, and goddess-like hair made our mouth drops instantly.  Next up, every major red carpet look we saw at the 2019 SAG Awards.

I’ll Be Shocked If These Controversial Zara Jeans Don’t Sell Out

Zara has its share of controversial trends stocked at any given time. It doesn’t play it safe, and that’s one of the many things we love about the brand. We’re regularly on the lookout for new arrivals that shoppers will lose it over, and that will subsequently sell out. Oftentimes, those trends are somewhat polarizing, and that’s what makes them stand out. Speaking of, the latest denim trend that’s sure to spark some strong reactions is one of the elastic-waist variety.

Earlier this month, I pointed out that the elastic-waist jean trend had made a comeback on Net-a-Porter, which predicts plenty of denim trends each season. I’ve been on the lookout for more examples and lo and behold, Zara just released its own take on the trend. Zara’s feature a high waist and black wash and a far-from-subtle elastic waist. Not only that, they also check the baggy-jean trend box and the comfort box. Oh, and they’re $50. I’m predicting that this combination calls for a quick sell-out.

Keep scrolling to shop the jeans, along with a few other controversial Zara pieces.

Think bike shorts are too much? Not you have neon bike shorts to contend to.
These may not be easy to walk in, but they’ll certainly make you look taller.
If you’re not into the tie-dye trend, it’s going to be a long season for you…
Controversial shield sunglasses are replacing controversial tiny sunglasses.
Culottes seem to be back, but in pleated form.
Open-toe ankle boots may not make much functional sense, but it is what it is.
The chicest way to wear the neon trend.
Ready or not, low-rise jeans are trying to make a comeback.

‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile’ Trailer: Watch Zac Efron Transform Into Ted Bundy

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile has prompted somewhat mixed reviews following its premiere at Sundance. Not so much for star Zac Efron, who some critics have suggested is a revelation as serial killer Ted Bundy, but the overall movie itself.

The trailer for the film, released Friday, has faced a less ambiguous response. Social media buzz indicates it just plain freaked people out.

The Shockingly Evil trailer traces the basics of the story, from boy meets girl through boy gets arrested and girl begins to realize he might be a serial killer who says things like “I’m more popular than Disney World.”

The problem some seem to have is it looks like a promo for a romantic comedy. To be fair, the synopsis for the movie—which also stars Lily Collins as Bundy’s girlfriend Liz Kloepfer—does read like a romantic comedy in hell:

1969. Ted (Zac Efron) is crazy-handsome, smart, charismatic, affectionate. And cautious single mother Liz Kloepfer (Lily Collins) ultimately cannot resist his charms. For her, Ted is a match made in heaven, and she soon falls head over heels in love with the dashing young man. A picture of domestic bliss, the happy couple seems to have it all figured out … until, out of nowhere, their perfect life is shattered. Ted is arrested and charged with a series of increasingly grisly murders. Concern soon turns to paranoia — and, as evidence piles up, Liz is forced to consider that the man with whom she shares her life could actually be a psychopath. This is the story of Ted Bundy, one of the most notorious serial killers of all time.

Social media complaints can be summed up in this tweet.

Another complaint has been that Efron was cast at all, as if it was somehow glorifying Bundy to have him played by a teen heartthrob—but the sad fact is Ted Bundy became famous in part because he was a head-snapping contradiction in the minds of some, a presentable, nice-looking guy who was also a monster in human form. Sometimes it’s realistic to present killers in an appealing package.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile also stars John Malkovich and Jim Parsons. There’s no nationwide release date for the movie yet, but it seems a sure bet the controversy will continue when it’s in theaters everywhere.

Boeing’s Electric Flying Car Just Completed Its First Autonomous Test Flight

One day, one way or another, we’ll all end up flying everywhere. That’s one takeaway from learning that Boeing, arguably the biggest name in flight, just completed a successful test of its autonomous passenger air vehicle (PAV).

Yeah, if Boeing wants to fly us around the city in electronic self-piloting vehicles they are well-situated to do it, and those vehicles could look like the one above.

Boeing NeXt is the manufacturing giant’s urban air mobility arm. Working in conjunction with Aurora Flight Sciences they’ve designed a practical vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) craft, and the successful test was aimed at confirming the craft’s abilities.

CTO Greg Hyslop said in a company release that “Boeing’s expertise and innovation have been critical in developing aviation as the world’s safest and most efficient form of transportation, and we will continue to lead with a safe, innovative and responsible approach to new mobility solutions.” Translation, (probably): ‘We’ll make this work as well as the 727.’

Realistically, the test was a Boeing milestone but it wasn’t all that earth-shattering, on the surface. But no less than Tesla billionaire Elon Musk saw that it was a significant development.

It’s what Boeing likely has in store that might catch the interest of anyone who has ever found themselves frustrated at not yet owning a Jetsons-style flying car. From the company’s release:

Future flights will test forward, wing-borne flight, as well as the transition phase between vertical and forward-flight modes. This transition phase is typically the most significant engineering challenge for any high-speed VTOL aircraft.

To put a fine point on it, here’s why Boeing’s entry into the competition to launch everyday commuting into the air is a big deal—the NeXt subsidiary is in the business of connecting the industry to regulatory agencies with an eye toward making autonomous flying cars an everyday thing. Boeing has the size and the money to push for changes in statutes and rules and just make that kind of thing happen.

Everyone should cross their fingers and hope the parachute and airbag industries keep pace with the flying machines.
