George R.R. Martin Just Revealed the ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Title
On Tuesday, Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin posted the first significant news about the series prequel on his blog. It will be titled The Long Night, and one of the first cast members is two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts.
Long Night, set set 1,000 years before the events in Game of Thrones, will likely soothe the broken hearts of Thrones fans, as will learning more details about Watts’ character, who will play “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret,”.
Here’s the most informative part of Martin’s blog post:
I could not be more excited. Welcome to Westeros, Naomi.
Jane Goldman scripted the LONG NIGHT pilot and will be running the show. She and her team are busy in London right now, neck deep in casting, and I expect some more names will be announced soon.
Meanwhile, there are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could. The readers among you might want to grab a copy of FIRE & BLOOD when it is released on November 20, though.
Fire & Blood is Martin’s Game of Thrones history, which will launch on November 19.
Variety also reports that The Long Night will be about “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,” and that it’s just one of several prequels in development.
The good news for Thrones fans is that the new series is definitely a reality. The bad news is that the end of the first series’ run is just around the corner, and the premiere of The Long Night won’t be on HBO’s schedule anytime soon.
First Look at New Ralph Lauren Collab With Skate Brand Palace
Last week, London-based skatewear label Palace announced that a collaboration with Ralph Lauren was underway, and now, the first images for the highly-anticipated collection is here for us to eyeball.
First of all, the Palace x Ralph Lauren line features a pretty awesome twist on the classic Polo bear sweater — The bear is perfectly executing a kickflip. Siiick. An iconic sweater indeed, and I would wear it every single day if I had one.
The other pieces in the collection include a cool Polo jacket, shirts with horses printed on them, retro Ralph Lauren graphics, loafers, and corduroy pants, among other things.
And as you can see, there’s a lot of tartan prints and Buffalo plaid, and the entire collaboration is just a whole lot of Americana, consistent with the classic Ralph Lauren theme.
In an interview with Business of Fashion, Palace founder Lev Tanju and co-owner Gareth Skewis said that prices will be similar to Palace’s usual prices — around $60 for a t-shirt, and $230 for a jacket.
Now, please note those incredible loafers in the picture above. I. want. those. loafers. They scream Ralph Lauren while being funkier than the brand’s normal footwear.
You can check out the full lookbook right here. It’s no wonder noted skateboarding aficionado Jonah Hill is such a huge fan of Palace.
The buzzy collaboration between an upstart skatewear brand and an all-American fashion giant is making at least some fashionable heads spin, and Twitter has a lot of feelings on it, per usual.
The Palace x Ralph Lauren collection drops November 9th, but with pieces this cool, everything is probably going to sell out real quick, so you might want to act fast if you’re feeling these looks.

Here’s Henry Cavill as Geralt in Netflix’s version of The Witcher
Netflix has released the first look of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for its upcoming take on The Witcher. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is adapting Andrzej Sapkowski’s beloved fantasy novels for the streaming service.
Since their release, they’ve inspired graphic novels, board games, and, of course, the acclaimed video game series from CD Projekt Red. In The Witcher’s world, monster hunters known as witchers fight supernatural beings with the help of special powers and body modifications. Cavill stars alongside Freya Allan as fellow iconic characters Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Anna Shaffer as Triss.
On Twitter, Netflix also teased Cavill as the magical monster hunter. He doesn’t speak because he knows just what we’re thinking.
Steve Bannon is pushing anti-immigrant policies at an upcoming tech conference
Trump strategist Steve Bannon has resurfaced in an unlikely place: the tech conference circuit. He is currently scheduled as the keynote speaker at the 15th International Conference on Advances in Computer Entertainment Technology (or ACE2018), to be hosted at the University of Montana in December. The conference is co-located with the Fourth International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots, although Bannon does not have any apparent connection to that gathering.
The broader scientific community is already pushing back against the invitation. A number of associated academics have pulled out of the conference in the wake of the keynote, as reported by Motherboard. Springer, a leading scientific publisher, has declined to publish the…
The Asus ZenFone 6 leaks with the most unsightly notch of all
Say what you will about the notches that have come out in the past year, but at least they were all centered. Leaked photos of Asus’ upcoming ZenFone 6 flagship phone were published by the likes of C4ETech, where the most offensive notch position has been sighted. It’s offset to the right-hand side!
While you should take these leaked photos with a grain of salt, all I can think is, “Why, Asus?” I could play devil’s advocate and say that the notch is small and non-intrusive, like the ill-fated Essential Phone’s. These design choices might not be final or even real, but the aesthetic crime that Asus seems to be committing isn’t the size of the notch, but its positioning. It’s definitely something you…
iPhone dual-SIM support won’t do much in the US this year
Apple released iOS 12.1 yesterday, adding support for a second SIM card to the iPhone XS and XR through the use of a digital eSIM. Apple may have technically added support for eSIM cards, but none of the major US carriers are ready for it. According to a report from MacRumors, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are all delaying their adoption of eSIM until later this year. (Sprint wasn’t included in Apple’s original announcement, but it told PCMag that it will support eSIM at some point.)
So if you’re a US cellular customer, you can’t actually use a second SIM with your phone unless you’re using one of the international carriers that do support eSIM.
