Watch Surviving Members of Nirvana Reunite During Foo Fighters Encore

Saturday night the Foo Fighters played a set at the San Bernadino Cal Jam music festival. It would have been just another concert but for the encore, when towering Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic walked onstage and he, Grohl, and Deer Tick guitarist and singer John McCauley launched into a nearly half-hour long set of Nirvana’s greatest hits.
Legendary rocker Joan Jett was one of the Kurt Cobain stand-ins, along with McCauley. Jett covered three songs, “Breed,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “All Apologies.”
This isn’t the first time Grohl, Novoselic, and a variety of singers have gotten together to bring back a version of that old Nirvana sound. They performed at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony along with Jett, Lorde, St. Vincent, and Kim Gordon.
They’ve also performed in a benefit concerts and joined Paul McCartney on SNL.
The reunion wasn’t really a big surprise, apparently.
Yeah, the Foo Fighters weren’t trying to keep that secret very close at all.
Nirvana could never be the same minus Kurt Cobain, but their songs stand the test of time. Two-thirds of the band is better than nothing at all.
